Day 35: Bus 2

Wally woke as the intercom crackled to life and was surprised to find himself back in his room. The last thing he'd remembered was feeling relieved at finally beating off those dragonfly-lizard things. There'd been that weird intercom message, then... he wasn't quite sure what had happened after that, but he was certain it hadn't involved falling asleep. He'd be half-wondering if he'd dreamed the whole thing if it hadn't been for the nagging ache on his back and ankle from where he'd been bitten. A quick check revealed they'd been bandaged, apparently while he'd slept. He wondered if he had Kal to thank for that. Maybe he'd get the chance to ask later.

He jumped as the door swung open to admit the familiar face of the nurse who'd woken him yesterday. "Up already, are we?" she said cheerfully as she busied herself pulling out clothes. A blue shirt and a pair of jeans were passed to him. Wally blinked, he hadn't been here long, but he'd gotten the impression that the grey-and-smiley-face combo was standard.

"Does this mean I'm being released?" he asked, hope creeping into his voice.

The nurse turned back to him, pity etched on her features. "I'm afraid not, dear." She smiled brightly as she continued, "but today's when all the patients get a special field trip into town! Won't that be a treat!"

Wally stared at the clothes, his mind working away. He'd been trying to get into town and to a phone last night before he'd been attacked. But if they were going in today, this might be the perfect chance for him to contact the Justice League. He smiled warmly and thanked the nurse as she left to allow him to change, then happily allowed himself to be led to one of the buses, picking a seat about halfway down and sliding in to look out the window. It seemed like today was going to be brighter than yesterday, at least in the area of possible phone calls and rescues. About the only dark patch he could see was that the contents of his paper-bag breakfast were going to be nowhere near enough to fill the yawning pit that had taken the place of his stomach, and even that was tolerable when he was positive he wasn't going to be here much longer.

"And you say that time goes rushing by, but it seems so slow to me, and you see a blur around you fly, but it takes too long, it seems so slow to me..." he sung absently.

[Oh Captain, my Captain~]

He knew that Homura had gotten that experimental procedure, and he'd guessed at some of the effects; amnesia and a regression of the mind as well. He was about to speak further about it, and point out that neither explained Kenren's condition, until the man spoke further. And really, Adelheid could understand; keeping Homura from being killed would be a very positive thing, or at least a somewhat positive thing, depending on Adelheid's mood at the time of the question.

So instead he sighed and inclined his head, the one sign of acknowledging the past before moving on to the future. As best he could, anyway. "I understand. What was it that you wanted to talk about? I get the unsettling feeling that I'm not going to like it."

Kenren rubbed his forehead tiredly, fingers brushing over the pale scar where his chakra had once been. The stresses of the day were coming back to him now which was a damn shame after last night's... enjoyment. "The time Homura was regressed to is a time before he was the Toushin Taishi... uh, War Prince of our world. A time before he was a leader and a warrior. He's very different now. But he isn't able to lead at the moment. He's still working with History Club, but me and Hijikata are taking over for the moment. I guess I just thought it would be better to let you know in person in case you had any questions or wanted to renegotiate arrangements in light of this development."

"...I do have a lot of questions, and I'm not really sure where to begin." Homura suddenly regressing to that state- regressing being the key phrase, changing back into what he had been- left a lot of questions open about what had happened to create the Homura that had been an ally and a thorn in Adelheid's side by turns. But that was not germane to the topic at hand, and so the German reminded himself to focus on that in particular.

So then. He tapped his chin, then nodded as he focused on business. "The agreement that I reached with Homura I'll offer again to you; I'll keep the History Club supplied with alchemical weapons, and in exchange, I want to know everything that you do; all of the advances made and all of the information discovered. Are those terms acceptable?"

Kenren snorted, shaking his head. "I'm not surprised. I don't have a damn clue myself and I've spoken with Homura since then." Done more than spoken admittedly although last night hadn't involved much actual talking. It was difficult to come to terms with. Stranger than the differences between Hakkai and Tenpou. At least there there had been a reincarnation to explain things.

Kenren gave the offer the consideration that it deserved before nodding. "That sounds perfectly acceptable to me," he replied seriously.

"At least I'm not the only one," he admitted, with a tiny sigh of relief. He wanted to know what was going on with Homura, but at the least he wasn't the only one in the dark. It was a strange sort of situation, and Adelheid didn't like it. At all. But he had to endure with it, that was all he could do.

There was the promise made, though. That was something. "Very well then. I've made Heiji's and I'll be delivering it tonight if possible. Who's next on the list? ...also, Homura wasn't exactly the most forthcoming. What would be the best way for us to confer if you have anything I want to know?"
