Nightshift 34: Doctor's Office 4 (Stegman)

[from here]

Now this was more like what Brooklyn expected to see when he entered a doctor's office. It was clean, it was normal... If someone walked into this office they might actually believe that Landel's was a perfectly legit establishment. Maybe the doctor that kept it even believed these lies himself.

After glancing over everything briefly and finding it safe for the moment, the gargoyle motioned L inside. So far they hadn't found anything much in regards to what the doctors themselves were like aside from what their offices said about them, and he wondered if the other man had anything else planned at this point aside from theft.

L stepped inside. Based on this doctor’s display of degrees and medical text, this person seemed concerned with appearances. Seeing the Newtons cradle and other professional toys indicated that the person expects to be acknowledged and respected. Unlike House’s office, this doctor had a lack of anything personal, likely indicating that the individual felt it was unprofessional to mix life with business… or they were so wrapped up in their job that they never really had much of a personal life.

L once again started digging through the office, unearthing a rather interesting find in one of the desk drawers; a pack of Cigarettes and a flask. He shoved the cigarettes into his pillow case and lifted up the flask, carefully opening it and taking a small whiff. It was definitely alcohol. This would indicate some sort of coping mechanism. This person had some reason to need solace or escape in narcotics. And more than likely they had a strong dependency too, seeing as this doctor couldn’t wait until he gets home.

“Depends on which one of these individuals ends up being my doctor.” L answered quietly, as he placed the flask into his pillow case, “Regardless of who they are, any of the items I am removing can be traded. And I am also interested in learning if these things will reappear like many of the other things you find in this place.”

L closed the drawer carefully and picked up his flashlight, “I believe that is all there is to find here. Let’s proceed to the next office.”
