Nightshift 34: M-C Block Hallway
[From here]
The halls in this particular block were rather deserted, both of patients and monsters. Scar couldn't help but to be relieved there wasn't anything of the latter. He had never been much of a fighter (that was his dead brother's department, as doubtlessly half of the institute knew...), but this body didn't even possess any means to defend himself with, neither did he trust his familiarity with it to attempt it. It was foolish to head out alone...
...which was why, despite everything, he still neededa meat shield an ally. The paranoid part of him thought the...complications would make such a thing difficult. Or maybe he shouldn't be thinking about this too often, or he'd drive himself mad with his paranoia.
But that was easier said than done...
Reaching the end of the hallway, he stepped out into the next. He supposed he should try his luck further up ahead...

The beam of Mello's flashlight swept the dark hallway before him, illuminating nothing but off-white walls and yards of tile indistinguishable from the tile of the hallways before. He couldn't afford to waste time watching and listening in every hallway he entered.
Continuing onwards, then.

Okay, he thought he knew where he was. Nny hadn't really been paying attention to where his nurse had led him that day. He bobbed the flashlight up and down as he tried to remember which way to go next. Down the hall, through the big doors, if he remembered correctly.
He began walking again, tugging at his coat absent-mindedly.

M1 was in... the first hall block in the next hall over, wasn't it? He pulled out his map as he went, awkwardly holding the flashlight under his chin as he read it over.

While still incredibly quiet, the place didn't seem nearly as deserted as it had when he'd first left his room. It was too dark for Steve to see, but he thought he heard movement. He couldn't pin down where it was exactly, but none of it sounded close. Just the faint sound of foot steps and people walking.
Continuing down the hallway he eventually came to a door. It was also unlocked, and the hallway outside didn't seem to be nearly as dark as the one Steve was currently in. He still had no idea what he was dealing with, but the general atmosphere of the place was unsettling.

Ah. He could see exactly where he needed to go. The beam of Trevelyan's flashlight swept over the number plaques on the hallways. M100. That was it.

Bourne continued to walk. Yes, this was the hallway he'd done battle in earlier - the layout was burned into his brain. He also knew how to get to the Sun Room, where Wesker had told him they would meet. Even if he'd been blindfolded, his feet knew the way.
He reached the end of the hallway, passing a blond man who was heading the opposite direction with a businesslike stride. His feet told him to go right, and that was the way he chose.

Albel's flashlight swept the area as he tried to locate the correct hallway. It didn't take all that long for him to find it, though, and he quickly slipped into the new hall.

With everyone’s sights now set on hopping the walls, it was probably safe to say that a majority of the Institute was free for exploring. While it meant that he’d have little to no cushioning when it came to whatever monsters roamed the hallways, the God-General was more than ready to face what was ahead of him.
He blatantly ignored the presence from behind him, instead sweeping his piece of fontech around and catching sight of a few patients here and there. Of course, he had no desire to make idle chatter with any of them, making his way over to the doors that led out of this hallway.

"Not the friendliest sort, are you? You could at least give me your name." Yes yes, it was horribly and terribly dangerous to follow around someone whom he hadn't formed a pact with, and Mr. H would have scolded Joshua forever if he'd found out just what kind of a game he was playing.
...but it got boring if things were always a foregone conclusion. Besides, Joshua had a shovel; he could always use it if he digged himself in too deeply.

It was only when that voice address him again did Sync stop, the slightest frown forming over his lips before he replaced it with a neutral expression as he turned around to face the person following him. He had no intention of answering the latter's question, instead following it up with one of his own.
"Why are you following me?"
no subject
Joshua carefully stayed just outside of foot range, his usual snerk on his face as he answered, "Like I said, we're partners now. I hope you don't mind." Did Sync have a choice in the matter? Uhhhh... no.
no subject
"I don't as long as you don't drag me down with you." It was true in that case. While he wasn't exactly keen on the aspect of someone following him around, if this kid proved to be useful then he had no complaint if the latter wanted come with him. Sync didn't bother with modesty, quirking an eyebrow at the kid's choice of weapon before smirking.
"Nice shovel, by the way. Planning on digging yourself a grave if things don't work out?"

The blond shouldered his impromptu weapon with a shrug and a smile, his voice sounded just a tiny bit put-upon. "I never could turn down a gift that was offered to me, so I just had to accept. Then again, it might be useful if there's some neglected treasure lying around." He gazed at Sync when he said that, his grin remaining the same despite that. Joshua was seldom wrong about his guesses... and he had a few about his newfound partner.

Sync didn't want to waste anymore time just standing and chatting, and so he spun at his heels and continued his way out of the hallway.

It was far darker than he had expected it to be. The Announcer had said something about the security systems being down to due to this 'Jill.' That explained the doors opening. Perhaps that also meant it affected the lighting system as well. That was... annoying. Moving in the dark was one thing, but this level of dark was just completely useless if he couldn't see where he was going.
Zim looked down at the device that he had taken from the bed. There was a bulb in it, so it was obviously supposed to light up. If he could just... There! The stupid switch turned the thing on an offered a very weak powered beam of light to serve as illumination. He stared at the thing incredulously. It was bad enough he was stuck in a human body, but to be stuck with their technology as well? This was certainly torture...
He marched down the corridor with the lighting device in hand, inspecting the walls. No windows as far as he could tell. There must have been some way out of this wretched place... The markings on the one door indicated it was a bathroom, so Zim chose to ignore it and head for the other doors at the far end.

The new bag was pleasantly hefty, and it filled Mello with a sense of accomplishment. He didn't have an immediate use for the chemicals, so storing the whole bag at Usopp's wouldn't be a problem, but if he could get his hands on mixing equipment he'd soon be able to make explosives heavy enough to get past locked doors.

The hallway was completely empty when Harry passed through, making him worry he'd slept half the night away already. It had been stupid to fall asleep like that. Checking the room numbers at the start of the next hallway, he located the right one quickly enough. Seemed like his and Peter's rooms would be pretty close together which was reassuring.

The note had said to meet at the M-C Block bathrooms, and as far as Matt was aware this was the M-C block. Convenient, that. He could only hope he had the right place, as he didn't like the idea of staying in those bathrooms any longer than he had to. (Not after the last time.)

Rather than the door being at the end of the hall as Teisel had first though, it was actually in the middle of an intersecting hallway. That was weird. Even without a flashlight, he should have been able to see the intersection. Maybe something was wrong with his optics. Once he was back home, he'd have to check them out. They did feel a little off.
Teisel paused to orient himself. The sign on this door proclaimed it to be a bathroom, so that wasn't the way to go. Behing him was the previous hallway, and it was a dead end. There didn't seem to be anything promising off to the right. To the left, however, was another large door. So many people were coming in and going out that it didn't stay closed for long; Teisel could catch glimpses of what looked to be yet another hallway.
I wonder why they don't just prop it open? Then at least he'd be able to see what he was walking into this time. Still, everyone seemed to be wrapped up in their own business so far. If he looked like he knew where he was going (which was quite an act, under the circumstances) maybe he could just kind of slip outside, all secret agent like...

Tonight, though, he might as well be blind. That's why he had thrown on the overcoat he'd found in the closet (which by itself was in desperate need of a do-over; it wasn't like he wanted his wardrobe to be rainbow, but the amount of grey in there really took the definition of 'plainclothes' to a whole new level) and stuffed whatever else he might need into the pockets, in an attempt to boost what small chances he might have. The dent in his pillow had turned out to be a regular old flashlight, and it was now held fast in his left hand.
He gave the hallway a once-over, listening for any sound he might want to hear in advance of being ambushed. Slowly moving around the corner, he flipped the beam of his flashlight forward and steeled himself, heading for the exit on hurried steps. No turning back.

Albel wasn't pleased as he walked into the next hallway. Not at all. How dare that meddling fool disappear on him just like that?! He had been his prey!! And he knew he couldn't do anything about it, which aggravated him.
What did it mean that people disappeared? Had they simply given in to those stupid lies those doctors made up? Unbelievable...why would anyone be stupid enough for that?! Why the hell would Fayt do that?!
A frustrated sigh escaped his lips as he paused in the middle of the hallway.
He guessed, for now, he should just focus on getting stronger. Weren't they allowed to head outside now? Perhaps there would be a worthy opponent hiding there.

Brooklyn scanned the hall, the light clanking of his new weapons at his side a comforting feeling (even if he wasn't sure he'd be able to use them properly right away). It was probably a good thing he'd given the shovel to his new roommate, as he really didn't have any way of using it and them at the same time.

Once he was back inside, Kaito hurried down the hall, ducking into the block hallway as soon as he reached it. It wasn't much further now to the bathrooms.

This hallway was even emptier than the last. Phoenix swallowed, telling himself firmly that an empty hallway was not certain proof that the axe murderer was three seconds from killing you. That was something that only existed in horror movies.
Monsters only exist in horror movies, too. Never mind evil mental hospitals. He glanced around, finding nothing, and gave a sigh of annoyance at himself as he located the door that led out of the block and walked through it. Expecting movie conventions out of this place? That was a new low.

This late, there was a significant lack of other patients around in this particular side hallway to help light Xelloss's path in passing. It was fortunate that he'd walked through this way so often before, so the territory was familiar, and not exactly the difficult terrain he'd walked across earlier in the evening. Still, the idea of being attacked in these circumstances was less than ideal... so he walked a bit more quickly.
