Dayshift 34: Men's Showers
Albel had wasted an entire night, but he couldn't quite figure out how he had actually wasted it. He had left his room early, didn't stand around doing nothing and no pathetic worm had dragged him down. Finding Fayt's room and smack the foolish maggot against the nearest wall shouldn't have taken a full night, but yet he found himself back in his bed before he even had so much as located the right door.
What the hell?!
But he didn't have much time to think about it, as one of the wenches instantly stepped into his room as soon he sat up. Had she had been waiting behind the door or something? He ignored her useless babble along the way to the showers. Apparently, he had slept through most of the day. Perhaps the lack of sleep was taking it's toll, though the warrior wouldn't even think about admitting that thought. And who cared about it anyway? The days were useless!
By the looks of things, Albel was the first one to arrive. Not that he cared. After stripping himself of his clothing he stepped inside the shower area and picked a stall by random. It took some fiddling with the knobs before the water temperature was good enough, but he eventually let the water wash over his body.

He was about to greet the other blond with a smile until Ashton gave a sort of startled explanation, almost making Claude jump out of his skin. Geez, did he really have to shout like that? He quickly glanced back at his friend, his expression softening when he began stifling a laugh at the state of his hair.
Oh, Ashton.
"That's right," he said once he'd regained his composure. "I guess you two haven't really seen each other since that time we ate burgers together." That had been almost a week ago, right? And that seemed like ages in this place...
"I talked to my friend Leon, by the way," he said, glancing towards Guy. "He agreed to put together some materials explaining heraldry for you. Leon's really good at what he does, so I'll bet it'll be helpful." He paused a moment, looking thoughtful. "You probably shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket with your energy source hunt, though. Just in case it doesn't pan out for some reason."

Claude seemed to have no problem with it, at least, and as Guy gathered some soap from the dispensers into his hands, he glanced over to the other blond and nodded. "Yeah, that was the last time. I hope you've been doing all right since then, Ashton?" He glanced over to Claude's friend, but only looked at him for a second or so before glancing away again. He didn't want to make Ashton too nervous.
He listened to Claude's update on the heraldry situation as he soaped up, glad to hear that things seemed to be working out so far. "That's great! I'll have to thank him the first chance I get." It looked like he would be meeting up with more and more of Claude's friends, though it wasn't like there was anything wrong with that.
"But yeah, I'll definitely keep looking. It's good to have at least one option, though." He was going to have to track down Jade again sooner rather than later to run this over with him, then.

Hearing that Claude had talked to Leon made Ashton flinch a little bit. Had Leon spilled the beans? Surely not. Surely not. That would be kind of terrible. But Ashton wasn't going to let on that he'd been asking. Not vocally, anyway. He already knew that he was bad enough at letting on to things through body language. Good thing Guy and Claude weren't looking at his body.
Or were they? He was too busy staring at his lap and making his hair into fun shapes to notice. He looked up at the mirror and stifled a giggle. It almost, almost made showering at the same time as a bunch of other guys bearable.
But Guy had asked him a question, hadn't he? What was it? Oh. Oh yeah, how he'd been doing. "..Yes. I've been doing fine. Just fine, thanks. Pretty darn okay. I hope you've been well, too."
All the talk about 'energy sources' and such went right over his head, so he decided not to comment on it. That sort of thing was best left to Claude.
"So, uh. Are you two going to spend tonight's nightshift together, too?" Actually, Ashton hadn't meant to breach the subject so soon, but the words spilled out before he could stop himself. Still, it really was something he was curious about. Which reminded him that he needed to check the bulletin when he got out of here...

The blond raised an eyebrow when Ashton kept insisting he was fine, but he didn't comment on it for now. Confronting him about it in front of people and in the shower just spelled failure anyway.
He's got Dias looking after him, too, he thought to himself without realizing it. It was still weird, knowing his rival was so close to his buddy, but he figured if there was anyone he trusted to watch someone's back, it was Dias.
When Ashton asked about this coming nightshift, though, he blinked and glanced over at his friend. "Huh...?" He reached over to get some soap from the dispenser and lathered it up in his hands. There was something a little odd about the way Ashton had worded that, but it could have been because he was a kind of uncomfortable anyway, so he didn't think too much on it. "Well, I hadn't made any plans for tonight, but..." He briefly looked over at Guy, unsure of what he had going on.

In the end, he kept getting distracted by what Claude had to say to him, anyway. "Oh, that was him? Yeah, he should be pretty easy to track down then." It wasn't just the hair, but also the kid's size. He was probably about Anise's height, if that. Guy wasn't sure if he would be able to find Leon tomorrow, seeing how it was "field trip" day, but he could still try and track him down.
Ashton's question did seem to come out of the blue, and Guy was glad that Claude seemed as perplexed by it as he did. He hoped that the brunet wasn't jealous or anything like that. Guy hadn't meant to impose in any way, but it was hard to know whose toes he might be stepping on.
"I think I'm making another shot at the basement tonight," he explained, not wanting to stir up any bad feelings if possible. "With a few friends of mine." Well, if Haseo was coming, he wasn't exactly a friend, but it wasn't like Guy had anything against the guy, either.
Realizing that the others were further along in their showers than he was, Guy then focused on soaping himself up.

Ashton sighed softly, rinsing his hair of the shampoo and reaching out for some conditioner, which didn't cover his hand so dramatically. He wouldn't have felt very comfortable smearing the excess conditioner on Claude's head, like he'd done with the shampoo. Not with onlookers.
But they weren't doing anything, huh? What was Claude doing, then? Was Claude going off and doing a bunch of stuff with other people Ashton hadn't even met yet? Had he signed up with some club and not told Ashton?!
Well, maybe if he gave Claude a reason to come see him during nightshift, he could get some information about it. Yes, that was a good idea. "Ah. I see. Well, whatever you're doing, Claude, if you feel like using one of my swords for tonight, you can stop over at my room. If you like, that is. I probably have a mission, and I have to drop off the compound at M1, but I shouldn't be long there."

When Ashton offered one of his swords, the blond couldn't hide the surprise on his face. "Are you sure?" he asked, not wanting to inconvenience his friend too much. "I haven't made any plans yet, but a sword would definitely be a help no matter where I went." He took a brief pause. "I mean, if it's really okay with you, anyway. I'd seriously appreciate it, but I know how you prefer fighting with two swords, so..."
Ever since the night Ashton had been taken for experiments, he'd never offered Claude the use of either of his weapons. Although, after that blow-up with Dias, he had to admit he hadn't exactly given his friend a chance to. And there was no way in hell he'd go asking people for their weapons.
The thought of going out into the halls with something other than a wimpy clothes rod always lifted Claude's spirits, but the prospect of an actual blade was almost too good to be true.

Speaking of which, it sounded like Ashton had swords to spare. Guy remembered how they had discussed sword fighting during the Doyleton trip, and he still felt pretty jealous knowing that the other man had two of them here. What kind of luck was that? Not that Guy held it against him, but he could only hope that his luck would turn in a similar direction soon. At least he had gotten to use that meat cleaver last night, which was a real improvement on the bat, he had to admit.
The fact that Ashton was offering one of his swords up showed that he was a pretty generous person, though. Since the conversation seemed to be more between the other two now, Guy focused on his shower, collecting some shampoo and then running it through his short hair.

The idea of Claude going and spending the night with someone Ashton hadn't even met was a lot worse than the idea of him going and spending the night with Guy. Slowly, he was starting to approve of this fellow. And he was a swordsman too, right? So he knew how to fight, which made him all right.
"Y-yes, I'm sure. But just for tonight, all right? I mean, they're somewhat short, so I don't know how much use you'll get out of one of them, but please, feel free tonight. Don't worry, it's okay." Claude was working on getting his own sword, right? A long sword? Ashton hoped so.
He didn't like the idea of someone running around using his special little weapons, even though he trusted Claude implicitly. Hopefully Dias wouldn't have too much to say about it...

He hadn't expected Ashton to suggest he go with Guy, and, a little startled, he glanced from one friend to the other. He wasn't really sure why the Auldrantian couldn't give Ashton some details later if he was really that curious, but maybe it was the darker-haired man's way of suggesting someone who was armed accompany him. Ashton could be a little indirect sometimes, after all.
There were things Claude had been meaning to tend to -- finding his file, and possibly getting more equipment for compounding, just to name a couple, but as long as he had a sword, and he had friends were planning to head for the basement, he saw no reason why he couldn't go. That is, if people were okay with it. There was some merit to traveling in smaller groups around here, after all.
"I'd be perfectly willing to go if you and your friends are okay with it," the blond said to Guy after a moment. "I wouldn't want to impose, though, so if you'd rather keep things among yourselves, that's fine too."
He glanced over to Ashton with a bright expression. "Thanks, though! I can't even tell you how much I appreciate it, even if it is just for tonight." With a bit of luck, he'd be getting his own sword soon anyway, so hopefully this would be the last time he'd be borrowing anything from Ashton. "I'll be sure to take good care of it."
By now, it looked like the shower shift was beginning to finish up, so Claude stepped under the water again, trying to wash the rest of the soap off of himself.

"Yeah, I'm fine with it," he assured Claude with a quick nod. "And I don't think the emperor would mind, either... Though it's up to you." He knew that the few encounters Claude had had with Peony didn't exactly make for the best first impressions, but on the other hand, now Claude knew what to expect from the man.
It would be helpful to have someone else who was well-equipped coming with them, especially if they ran into something along the lines of that thing from last night.
The nurses were starting to move around, which meant that they didn't have much more time. It looked like he was going to have to forget about the conditioner, then. Guy quickly dunked his head under the water to wash the shampoo out and then started to turn the shower off.
