Day 34: Lunch

Yuffie bounced all the way through collecting her lunch, all the way to a good seat- one with a nice view of the whole cafeteria, which was something she'd been missing out on during the past day or so that she'd been stuck in the Institute- and hell, she even bounced into her seat.

A good mood? No, really?

Despite the occasional blip, talking to Sagara had been awesome. He was a fun guy; he wasn't a prude, didn't have a stick shoved so far up his ass it was poking out his eyeballs, and he'd actually had a conversation with her. One that hadn't revolved around doom, gloom or how much life sucked. If she could find other people like that and keep in touch with Sagara, maybe there was a little hope for this place.

After a quick gulp of pink lemonade, Yuffie settled to munching through her food and keeping an eye on the door.

[Waiting for Dean, I think? :x]

"I don't eat much normally and I haven't died yet," Ritsuka shot back. He could be stubborn when he wanted to be and right now, he felt like being stubborn. The food wasn't what he wanted and he knew he wasn't going to get what he wanted anytime soon. The sauce was okay though, maybe. For lack of anything else to do, he started sliding the chicken nuggets into the different dollops of sauce on his plate and left them there like boats lost at sea.

Shifting things around on his plate, he finally settled on the potato chips and started nibbling on them. In some ways, hearing Aidou talk about the other vampires here like they were beneath him was annoying, but in another, it was also a little scary. Aidou, for all his annoying traits, was a good person and was able to control himself. Ritsuka never felt unsafe around him, or like he was prey. If these other vampires didn't have the same amount of control, then he'd be an easy target should they ever decide to start hunting. "...do they have to feed? Is that why?"

It was a close call, but Aidou managed to swallow his words before he pointed out how very ironic Ritsuka's idea on dying was. Part of the vampire's problem was saying unnecessary things, and he shouldn't have to comment on how being in Landel's changed everything.

So he shrugged at the same time he crossed his arms, looking blasé on the whole matter. Aidou wasn't exactly a mother hen. Making sure a little boy ate properly wasn't at the top of his list of priorities, certainly not above his own survival.

With the other, more serious topic, Aidou took it more seriously.

"I don't know," he admitted in a low tone, squinting out one of the sunny cafeteria windows. "But the chances are high. Even if they're kind to humans, who knows how that could change if there's spilled blood involved." He looked back at Ritsuka, tilting his head ever so slightly. "Just a warning, of course. Distrusting things without heartbeats should go without saying."

Aidou was itching to say something, but was exercising his better judgement and staying quiet. The guy really had calmed down a lot since the last time they talked and Ritsuka finally decided that maybe now was a good time to stop raising his hackles whenever Aidou was mentioned around him. If they weren't going to argue over stupid things anymore, then maybe...well, "friends" was a little far, but better acquaintances was a good term to use for now.

The potato chips vanished quickly off Ritsuka's plate and he went back to poking at the chicken, contemplating eating them as a last resort. The cole slaw was off limits entirely. Too much mayonaisse and far too...gross looking.

The mention of blood being spilled, however, destroyed Ritsuka's appetite and he pushed the tray away again. With how many injuries Ritsuka seemed to accumulate over any one night, he was a likely enough target should a hungry vampire come along. "...thanks for the warning," he said, staring uncomfortably at the rejected tray. Ritsuka really did appreciate it, but one thing still bugged him and he finally looked up at Aidou to ask. "But why tell me all this now? Did something happen?"

It was rude to watch people eat, after all, and Aidou continued to survey the familiar faces around him, having gotten used to the need to keep a literal eye on certain people and situations. When he was the sole provider of information that he could truly count on, it became kind of a habit.

When the tray was finally pushed away, the vampire looked back again, gauging Ritsuka’s expression. Perhaps the kid really had no idea that Aidou was out and about attacking people himself, like a common criminal. Hm.

He began to shake his head, paused briefly, then finished the movement with a certain level of confidence. Had something happened? Sort of. But no point in telling Ritsuka that, since it wasn‘t anything the boy hadn‘t glanced over on the bulletin board already. Aidou didn’t think detailing his “discovery” in its entirety was interesting for anyone but himself, considering how little value most people seemed to put on the concept of vampirism and the intricacies therein. It seemed like enough, so long as he mentioned there could be danger.

“No, I just don’t broadcast these sorts of things via the bulletin board. I’m sure its old information.”
