Day 34: Lunch

Yuffie bounced all the way through collecting her lunch, all the way to a good seat- one with a nice view of the whole cafeteria, which was something she'd been missing out on during the past day or so that she'd been stuck in the Institute- and hell, she even bounced into her seat.

A good mood? No, really?

Despite the occasional blip, talking to Sagara had been awesome. He was a fun guy; he wasn't a prude, didn't have a stick shoved so far up his ass it was poking out his eyeballs, and he'd actually had a conversation with her. One that hadn't revolved around doom, gloom or how much life sucked. If she could find other people like that and keep in touch with Sagara, maybe there was a little hope for this place.

After a quick gulp of pink lemonade, Yuffie settled to munching through her food and keeping an eye on the door.

[Waiting for Dean, I think? :x]

"I doubt anyone does." Scar answered. "And I also doubt such information would be all that easy to find. It doesn't take all that many braincells to figure that leaving such facts lying around isn't a clever idea." And even despite there were some questionable announcements during the night, ones that made him question their captor's sanity, the King figured the man at least had that much common sense.

"Yeah... the downside is that figuring there's no easy solutions just cuts down on options, it doesn't give me any better sense of direction." Seiya leaned back in her chair again, and glanced around the room one more time. "Maybe that's why it's so busy at night, even with all the people who must have been over this place a dozen times. I guess finding a monster to fight means having something immediate to do, even if it doesn't seem to help the bigger picture."

Which was what? What was the point in taking away her powers, or for that matter Usagi's and Ami's, then leaving them here to just exist as humans? At least Galaxia, as a force of destruction, made an insane sort of sense.

Fighting a monster to just have the feeling you're doing something productive definitely fitted in the 'headless chicken' category, or at least that was how Scar saw it. Not that he had accomplished all that much himself during his stay, but at the very least he wasn't going to pick fights he was fairly certain he couldn't win anyway.

"I suppose most people depend on luck, hoping to find something useful or even a way out by running around aimlessly." Scar answered. But wasn't that what they all did right now?

And that bigger picture...Scar also couldn't help but wonder why he had been forced in this human form. He couldn't see the possible gain to anyone, which only proved how less he actually knew about the said bigger picture. But then again, he had just said that kind of information would be difficult to find, hadn't he?

Oddly, she felt better, even though they were both sort of mutually brooding over the situation. At least keeping herself talking and thinking about the conversation kept her occupied. "I've gone out and gotten weapons, so now my big question is, what's a useful thing to do with them? Assuming I don't give in to running around aimlessly, which I guess I'm not above if it comes to that."

It beat standing still, although maybe not by much. Seiya tried to look ingratiating. "Well, if you don't mind, you seem like a smart guy, and you've been here long enough. What do you try to get done at night?"

Not working with the groups, he'd said. Maybe he had someone personal here to worry about. Seiya did, but... her right to actually go off and start trying to be Usagi's bodyguard when the girl clearly didn't even remember her wasn't exactly clear. And one of her own, Ami, was with her to help her. The spurious offer to protect Usagi since her Mamoru wasn't around was starting to taste very bitter, especially after the girl's seeming disappearance.

"I heard the basement is popular place to visit during the night." Scar answered. And probably outside as well, but if the messages on the bulletin would be anything to go by, then you'd simply ended back up within the institute. But there must be a way to break that cycle, only the feline hardly had any clue how that could be accomplished. Reaching a certain place beyond the reaches of the institute seemed a good guess, but how far would that be? And, more importantly, could anyone actually make it before morning came?

"For now I am attempting to explore." Scar said, not familiar with the concept of maps. Of course, he had seen one or two on the bulletin board, but the feline horribly failed at understanding them. "I do not know how you humans navigate, but it would seem it doesn't help me."

He knew how to navigate through his senses once he was familiar enough with the territory, but there were still plenty of locations left he had yet to visit. Wasting nights arguing hardly provided any help.

"Basement... I don't really know much about that. I could probably find out from one of the groups, I guess." Seiya leaned her head against an arm on the table. It was interesting to hear her table mate comment on how 'humans' navigate. She'd read enough to get the idea that some people were changed here, but she hadn't given it much serious thought. The few species she knew of which were sentient and non-humanoid could take on human form with a little help or training, usually. It would be pretty rough to have no experience and to be dropped into a foreign body like that for the first time. He seemed to be handling it well. Calling herself an alien, besides being personal information, probably wouldn't impress him much since she'd looked like this on her homeworld too.

"Well, I'd offer to help you navigate if it wouldn't be the blind leading the blind. I just know the start of the layout of this place, and barely know that. How do you usually navigate?" She figured the question wasn't too blunt, considering he'd brought the topic up in the first place.

Scar didn't see it as a blunt question. Not only because he had indeed brought the topic up, but also because it was a very normal thing to him. One of the few things he was actually a little familiar with. And maybe it was a little gloating as well.

"Smell and instincts." Scar answered, as if it was the most normal thing in the world. Well, it was to him at the very least. "Though the presence of certain landmarks help as well."
