Day 34: Lunch

Yuffie bounced all the way through collecting her lunch, all the way to a good seat- one with a nice view of the whole cafeteria, which was something she'd been missing out on during the past day or so that she'd been stuck in the Institute- and hell, she even bounced into her seat.

A good mood? No, really?

Despite the occasional blip, talking to Sagara had been awesome. He was a fun guy; he wasn't a prude, didn't have a stick shoved so far up his ass it was poking out his eyeballs, and he'd actually had a conversation with her. One that hadn't revolved around doom, gloom or how much life sucked. If she could find other people like that and keep in touch with Sagara, maybe there was a little hope for this place.

After a quick gulp of pink lemonade, Yuffie settled to munching through her food and keeping an eye on the door.

[Waiting for Dean, I think? :x]

Out of the corner of his eye Frey caught a flash of a tiny, dark-haired form. Startled and, for a moment, terrified, he whirled to get a better look. The Prince sighed in relief when he saw that while it was, indeed, a dark-haired little girl, it wasn't Lym. An instant later he felt terribly guilty for his relief--whether or not the girl was his sister, she was still someone's daughter or sister, and she was trapped in this terrible place.

After hurriedly gathering some food, Frey went over to where the girl sat--alone, poor thing--and approached carefully, trying his best to seem harmless and 'big brotherly'. "Hello there, miss. Do you want some company?"

Ururu looked up when someone spoke to her, asking what she'd just been thinking. She wasn't one to refuse anyway, but now especially she nodded. "Okay. You can sit wherever you want. I don't mind."

Ururu shifted in her seat some, kneeling on the chair. This new person looked friendly, which was good. Despite having a bad morning, Ururu was having a good day, and she wanted it to last. "My name is Ururu. It's nice to meet you."

"My name is Freyjadour. But you may call me Frey, if that's too difficult to pronounce." Which it seemed to be for a lot of people around here, but Frey wasn't willing to offer most people the option of using the nickname that had always been reserved for family and friends, at home. Children, though, were another matter.

Frey sat down accross from Ururu, glancing at her plate to make sure she had a balanced meal. One would hope that the nurses would ensure at least that much care was given such young patients, but in this place one never knew. "Why were you sitting all by yourself, Ururu?"

Ururu was glad for the nickname, since Feyjadour did seem like it would be a hard word to say. She nodded a bit, then bowed her head, since she was sitting and couldn't curtsy that way. "Thank you, Frey-san. Um, I'll practice so I can say your name right soon."

People should be called by their names, after all.

Ururu's meal was rather balanced, but not so much due to the nurses as the girl's own efforts. Tessai-san had often told Ururu and Jinta-kun just how a meal should be, and while Jinta-kun didn't listen, Ururu did. So she had made sure not to just get what Tessai-san called junk, but also vegetables. Even if she didn't like them as much.

"My friends are talking to other people, and I didn't want to interrupt anyone." A very polite girl, Ururu looked up at Frey, not sad, but not smiling. It was rare of her to smile though. Ururu tried very hard only to do so at appropriate moments. "Do you have friends here, Frey-san?"

It was important to have friends. And not just for the nighttime.

What a sweet child. "That's very kind of you, Miss Ururu." So very, very different from Lym! Who would have tackled him by now, no doubt. Luserina was probably like Ururu, as a child--so well-mannered and earnest, like a little adult. Hopefully she knew how to play and have fun, too, though! Frey had always felt bad that Lym's life had been full of lessons and preparation for taking the throne, even from such a young age.

"Oh, that's understandable. I'm glad you have friends here, Miss Ururu." It was good that most of the younger children here seemed to. Frey needed to check on Hanyuu again, though, and verify if she'd ever found the friend she'd been looking for.

As to whether Frey had any friends here, that was a more difficult matter. He didn't want Ururu feeling bad for him--she seemed so serious that it might be troublesome for her--but of course the truth was that he didn't, really. The Star Dragon Sword was something of an ally, but hardly a friend. "Ah... not friends as such, I suppose. But I am getting on with my roommate, and there is someone I know from my world here."

Ururu wasn't quite so outgoing as to ever tackle anyone. Unless they were the enemy. But tackling the enemy was very different from tackling a friend, and Ururu didn't want to hurt her friends. So that she was polite and shy was a good thing.

"I'm happy they're my friends too." Ururu knew she'd be very lonely without them around, and very sad. She still felt that way sometimes, when she thought about Kisuke-san or Yoruichi-san, both of whom had vanished. But being able to help Fai-san and Orihime and Keman helped her feel better. At least when she did well at it.

As much as he didn't want it though, Ururu immediately felt bad for Frey when he said he didn't have friends. But he also said he had people around, and maybe that meant things would change for him soon. "I hope you get close to them, then. Friends are important. This place is bad most of the time. Especially at night."

She didn't know how new Frey was, but it was important to tell people about the danger. Ururu didn't want anyone to be hurt, after all.

"I hope I do, too. They're a little bit prickly, but well-meaning." Frey was pretty sure the Star Dragon Sword was well-meaning, anyway, at least when it came to him. Presumably because he bore the Dawn Rune and not because of anything about him personally, but it was still nice that someone cared what happened to him. "And yes, they have helped me very much in getting through the nights here." Except that first one, when he was with the Arts and Crafts club. That did not go well at all.

[identity profile] bewarethecute.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ururu thought she could understand prickly. Prickly sounded like something Jinta-kun would be. "Like they pull your hair sometimes if they think you messed up?" Jinta-kun did that. And other things. But Ururu did miss those other things, even if she didn't like them very much.

"It's good that they help you. You should stay with them, then." For Ururu, it was a simple solution. Friends help, so stay with friends. But she knew too that not everyone liked to do that so much.

That made her think of leaving a note for Kurogane. She hadn't talked to him all day, but she wanted to be sure he was okay.

Frey smiled at Ururu's question, thinking that perhaps whoever it was who tended to pull her hair rather liked her. He wasn't at all experienced with romantic relationships, and such things tended to go over his head when adults talked about them, but childish crushes he could understand perfectly well. "Something like that. Though they tend more to grump and snarl at me, rather than pulling my hair." Probably because they knew, or suspected, that Frey would tolerate a great deal of verbal abuse, but touching him in such a manner would actually manage to anger him.
