Day 34: Lunch

Yuffie bounced all the way through collecting her lunch, all the way to a good seat- one with a nice view of the whole cafeteria, which was something she'd been missing out on during the past day or so that she'd been stuck in the Institute- and hell, she even bounced into her seat.

A good mood? No, really?

Despite the occasional blip, talking to Sagara had been awesome. He was a fun guy; he wasn't a prude, didn't have a stick shoved so far up his ass it was poking out his eyeballs, and he'd actually had a conversation with her. One that hadn't revolved around doom, gloom or how much life sucked. If she could find other people like that and keep in touch with Sagara, maybe there was a little hope for this place.

After a quick gulp of pink lemonade, Yuffie settled to munching through her food and keeping an eye on the door.

[Waiting for Dean, I think? :x]

Another weird name, though at least the kid didn't have a strange hair color to go with it. Not that it mattered all that much, but humans tended to prefer sticking with what they were used to. Then again, Peter had accepted his powers easily enough, though now he was wondering how smart of a choice that had been.

At the same time, though, he couldn't accept that he should just ignore what he could do and act like it wasn't there. He didn't want to believe that he had been meant to cause destruction. He just needed to figure out what good he could do, and that wouldn't be possible until he got out of here.

"No, not really. This is... my fifth day, I think," he responded. "I guess that's long enough to have the hang of this place." He still felt like he barely knew anything about Landel's, though, and he hadn't been ready for Nathan to be gone so suddenly.

"It's my third day now," Wolfram admitted reluctantly, taking a chance and taking a bite of chicken. It wasn't bad, just strange. He couldn't wait until being able to enjoy real cooking again, as tolerable as this was.

He allowed the silence to linger for a few moments, thoughts still lost in his conversation from breakfast.

"Although I still haven't gotten used to all of the things that actually exist in this world. Especially the ones at night."

Peter didn't think that two days made that much of a difference, though he was glad he wasn't being put in a position where he had to explain Landel's to someone else. Since he didn't have it all straight himself yet, he probably wasn't the best person for the job.

At the mention of monsters, Peter nodded. "Yeah, it's new to me too. What kind of stuff have you run into at night?" He figured it would be a good idea to know what to expect, and there was a good chance that he and this Wolfram had come across completely different creatures during their time here.

"Hmph, far too much," Wolfram shook his head. "Let's see... a giant cat, a spider, a brainwashed patient, a giant alien thing..." He cringed and shook his head at the memory, his recent dreams coming to mind. "Something called a 'pyramid head', and a group of these small monsters with sharp teeth that are barely taller than your knees."

It was amazing to think about when he listed it out like that. And definitely not in a good way. It made him wonder exactly how much he was supposed to be able to handle, as Aidou had pointed out, before losing his mind. Not that he would let that happen.

"It's the lack of progress that's frustrating." It had been heavily suggested that he avoided mentioning that they had been down in the basement, and he decided it was probably a useful suggestion in this case.

"All that in three days?" Peter asked with widened eyes. In that case, he'd had it easy! Then again, some of the nights he had barely gotten anywhere at all, so that might be why he had run into less during a longer period of time. Though maybe this Wolfram kid just had really terrible luck.

"For me, I've seen... mutant bats, a mutant cat, and a patient that apparently liked to take bites out of other people. I don't think he was even brainwashed," he said with a sigh. His list was pretty pathetic in comparison, but he reminded himself that that was a good thing.

"But... an alien? And a pyramid head? What are you talking about?" It wasn't that Peter didn't believe Wolfram, but those things seemed too crazy, even for this place. At least the cats and bats were things he could understand, despite the fact that they were so severely warped from what they were supposed to be.

"Two nights, really," Wolfram sighed, fixing a small rebellious strand of hair. Apparently he really didn't have the greatest of luck.

"Someone that bites other people?" Wolfram tilted his head. The thought intrigued him somehow, and he wanted to learn who to be cautious of. "Like how? And what did they look like?"

He drank some of his apple juice while puzzling over the idea.

"The others on the board called it an alien, so I'm assuming that's what the thing was." He had to fight back a shiver from moving down his spine. "It was huge, and spit out acid at us. It got in my eyes, so I never actually saw the pyramid headed thing."

"Acid?" Peter rubbed at the back of his head and then looked over his plate of food, feeling his appetite leave him again. He couldn't even imagine how much that must have hurt. "Well, at least it didn't blind you or anything. How did you get it out?" The most logical solution would have been washing them out with water, but he didn't know how likely it was that Wolfram would have been near to a water source.

As for Wolfram's question, Peter sighed and shrugged. "I didn't actually see it happen. I ran into the guy after he'd already bitten someone, but my friend was with him and he'd witnessed it. He just took a bite out of this girl, but luckily she got away. Anyway, he... had really red hair, about shoulder length?" That was the main thing he remembered, considering how bad the visibility had been.

"Not permanently, anyways," Wolfram agreed. "It washed out with some water, and it got better as time went on.

He made a mental note about the red headed patient, and decided to be on the lookout for anyone doing suspicious in that regards. It was bad enough to have monsters to be up against, but crazy people that were supposed to be your allies? Not a good sign.

"Hmm... I'll keep that in mind. Have you seen any other strange things here? Besides the obvious."

[identity profile] human-sponge.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Peter made a mental note that if he ever got hit with an alien thing's acid, he would need to wash it off as soon as possible. He tried not to think about how surreal that was, and instead took it at face value, knowing that information might just save his life if his luck became as bad as Wolfram's seemed to be.

At the other's question, he thought over his days here, trying to come up with something. But he had already mentioned the monsters he had run into...

"Well, this isn't a monster or anything, but I've noticed that sometimes patients will pass out and you won't be able to wake them up. It happened... to a friend of mine, and also to his roommate. They were okay in the morning, I think, but it was still strange." He wondered if it had any connection to the fact that Nathan had disappeared soon after, though that would mean that Cid would be due for the same fate, and he wasn't sure what the man's status was. It was something to look into, though.
