Day 34: Breakfast

[starting off in M13]

The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves.

To Homura, whoever that man was, he sounded a great deal like a god.

But before he could ask questions, the demi-god found himself no longer in the chapel, but some strange room on a bed. Is that what Kenren had meant from his earlier warning? Homura sat up, glad at least that the world didn't spin when he did so. Then the same man from before began to speak again, with a completely different tone. It was confusing to hear him talk that way, calling them patients instead of prisoners as he had before. Homura listened quietly as the announcement was made, then got out of bed.

Maybe he wouldn't have to go anywhere yet. It wasn't like Homura knew where to go anyway, and that meant he had time. If this was his room, and if he had been here as long as Kenren had said, there was a chance he could find something with answers. The Taisho had even told him that Homura had seen Rinrei. Certainly he would've written something down, made a map, something that could let him find her again! He started with the desk at the end of his bed, first finding a small stack of notebooks. Picking up the first, he flipped through, turning the pages with quickening desperation as he found each one to be blank.

[From his conversation with Sora]

...he wasn't going to be able to eat this. With a dejected sigh, Luxord pushed his tray away from him and stood, taking a glance around the cafeteria to find someone else to make miserable. If someone was apathetic about the world more than he was right now, it'd make everything better.

And, well hello thar, Kairi. She'd do perfectly. The Nobody walked calmly to her and examined her sad, lonely appearance.

"Is something the matter, Princess? You should eat something."

Luxord? Kairi barely registered his presence over her thoughts, and yet she looked up at him all the same, her expression slightly shocked when she realized he was speaking to her. “Oh, uh, I am fine. Thank you.”

And yet, wasn’t she supposed to be holding a grudge against this man? He had wanted to steal Naminé away from her, last time they had spoken.

At the thought, her fingers twitched with an unseen flame. She quickly fought it down.

Leaning back in her seat slightly, Kairi looked up at Luxord, blinking in surprise to see him simply standing there. “ … Can I help you?”

It was a tempting idea to slit the girl's throat. The second he heard her voice came the intense need to shut her back up. Why had Saïx even brought her to the castle? It only spurred the Keybearer into killing them all. True, Luxord himself hid her and the rest of Sora's friends from him as a sort of cruel punishment for taking away Xigbar, but... And now here she was, stealing away Naminé. In his eyes, she had already won; Naminé had grown up and made her decision. He would not take it out on her.

He would take it out on her Somebody. Really, how simple would it be to lean over and take out a card...

He smiled charmingly, tilting his head to the side in some sort of mirth. "Am I not allowed to ask after an old friend, dear girl?"

Kairi tensed. Why was he speaking to her? Especially after the last time? it had to be a trick – she knew better than to trust anything Luxord had to say. she couldn’t draw attention to herself, either.

She’d simply have to be calm.

Leaning back towards the table, Kairi reached forwards and grasped onto her cup of juice, bringing it to her lips as she sipped on it silently. Eyes falling shut, she said nothing for a moment before finally setting the cup down, her body remaining frozen for a few seconds before she finally opened her eyes and looked at Luxord with an icy stare, her lips set into a deep frown. “Old friend? I’m sorry, but I do believe you and I were never any kind of friend. Not even an acquaintance.”

Her eyes narrowed then, hands moving to rest in her lap as her fingers burned once more. “So, I’ll ask again. Can I help you?”

Luxord's smile widened as he took a seat in front of the girl. His cards slid from inside of his sleeve and he fanned them out in front of him, starting to shuffle. "Then why do we not get to know each other, shall we, Princess?" He laughed. "After all, we never seem to have much alone time, do we? Perhaps a game will make this uncomfortable silence all better."

Kairi looked down at the cards and froze, a shudder shooting down her spine as she stared down at the cards. How had he gotten those? Didn’t anyone know it was dangerous, considering that was what he used for weapons?

The once princess relaxed soon enough, her eyes falling shut as she breathed in a deep sigh before pushing herself slightly away from the table. “I don’t think that’s a very good idea. After all, breakfast is almost over, and I have other things that I have to take care of that do not involve card games.”

She’d have to be wary with Luxord. Maybe talk to Axel about him.

"How about," he began, taking no heed at watching the Princess move away, "I read your future? Merely harmless fun. You'd no need to worry about me hurting you."

Kairi blinked at the mention of reading her fortune, her heart already telling her to leave. Simply put, she did not trust this man. Who was to say he wouldn’t give her a bad fortune on purpose?

Opening her mouth to speak, she was suddenly cut off by the sound of the intercom. Letting out a sigh of relief, Kairi stood up, looking down at Luxord for a moment before giving him a bright smile. “Hm, how about some other time? looks like I have to head into the showers.”

Without saying another thing, Kairi turned away and strode out of the cafeteria, her face blank.
