Day 34: Breakfast
[starting off in M13]
The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves.
To Homura, whoever that man was, he sounded a great deal like a god.
But before he could ask questions, the demi-god found himself no longer in the chapel, but some strange room on a bed. Is that what Kenren had meant from his earlier warning? Homura sat up, glad at least that the world didn't spin when he did so. Then the same man from before began to speak again, with a completely different tone. It was confusing to hear him talk that way, calling them patients instead of prisoners as he had before. Homura listened quietly as the announcement was made, then got out of bed.
Maybe he wouldn't have to go anywhere yet. It wasn't like Homura knew where to go anyway, and that meant he had time. If this was his room, and if he had been here as long as Kenren had said, there was a chance he could find something with answers. The Taisho had even told him that Homura had seen Rinrei. Certainly he would've written something down, made a map, something that could let him find her again! He started with the desk at the end of his bed, first finding a small stack of notebooks. Picking up the first, he flipped through, turning the pages with quickening desperation as he found each one to be blank.

"I'm busy," she said, turning her attention back to her journal. Perhaps if she simply ignored him, he'd go away.
no subject
"With what?" He asked, just as casually, sneaking his hand up to her journal in an attempt to swipe it deftly from her, "Looks like-"
He saw... alchemy circles? What was she doing with those? He wouldn't settle for not knowing.
no subject
And she knew he would, if he dug enough. Envy irritated her at this point, but he wasn't an idiot.
"Haven't you someone else to bother? I'm in no mood for you this morning."
no subject
He ate another piece of his breakfast, smiling subtly and humming as he went,
"Oh, of course!" He declared proudly, and it was true that he had plenty of people to bother, "You're just special."
no subject
"Fine. What do you want?" she finally asked, assuming he had to have some reason to be bothering her this morning.
no subject
Oho, lies! That Tamaki boy was brilliantly entertaining. Envy had surreptitiously watched the drama and waterworks unfold. It was a shame that he'd barely even gotten below the belt before the nightshift ended far too soon. But this was more than good enough. He'd sufficiently harmed the idiot's outlook for the time being, and seen Ed make that cute little scrunched face of anger and self-blame. How Envy loved that frustration!
no subject
"And I'm really not in the mood for your little games this morning, so just get to it."
no subject
"Why so serious? One would think you were busy copying Master's secret notes in there."
He soured a bit inside, remembering Lust's disrespectful words for Dante that had set him off so recently, though it now seemed like an era ago.. Sure, he'd had a few choice words for the Master on occasion. They all did. But speaking so irreverently of her, away from her direct presence... he could handle her calling Dante a bitch, a slave driver, a greedy tyrant. She had lovingly admitted to being those things, if indirectly. But anything short of a genius, anything short of strong, Dante was not. That was where the unforgivable trespass had happened in Lust's words. That was where Envy knew not to trust her any longer.

"You may be slinking about this place at random, but I'm attempting to do something productive. And you're interrupting me. So I would hope you have some reason to do so, other than an attempt to irritate me. Now get to the point or I'll give Gluttony directions to your room and send him after you this evening."
no subject
"Doing what? Bedding alchemists and slipping notes under their pillows like the good old days?"
He vented and rolled his eyes flippantly. She could assume all she wanted of his activities.
"Your point is my point. You first." He could draw out her hollow threats all day if he needed to. Just so long as he figured out what was going on with her and the mystery alchemist.
And... she just had to threaten him with Gluttony. Envy didn't harbor seething hatred for the oaf, but he certainly didn't enjoy his company. Perhaps because, like Wrath, he was the kind of personality that needed comfort and sympathy in order to be manipulated, and Envy just wasn't good at being attentive like was needed. Lust had miraculously found a tolerance for him somehow, and now had a waddling pet at her heel.
Oh well. A useless trait. Envy's preferred methods of persuasion drew in deadlier allies.
