Day 34: Breakfast

[starting off in M13]

The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves.

To Homura, whoever that man was, he sounded a great deal like a god.

But before he could ask questions, the demi-god found himself no longer in the chapel, but some strange room on a bed. Is that what Kenren had meant from his earlier warning? Homura sat up, glad at least that the world didn't spin when he did so. Then the same man from before began to speak again, with a completely different tone. It was confusing to hear him talk that way, calling them patients instead of prisoners as he had before. Homura listened quietly as the announcement was made, then got out of bed.

Maybe he wouldn't have to go anywhere yet. It wasn't like Homura knew where to go anyway, and that meant he had time. If this was his room, and if he had been here as long as Kenren had said, there was a chance he could find something with answers. The Taisho had even told him that Homura had seen Rinrei. Certainly he would've written something down, made a map, something that could let him find her again! He started with the desk at the end of his bed, first finding a small stack of notebooks. Picking up the first, he flipped through, turning the pages with quickening desperation as he found each one to be blank.

That was changing the subject, and Luxord was even being obvious about it. While Sora had a hard time listening to someone's implication that he ruined their appetite, he didn't know if he could back down so easily. The fact that Luxord was avoiding the topic at hand made him pretty suspicious.

"You're right. I don't want to talk to you, and you don't want to talk to me. But when I hear about something like that happening, I can't just ignore it," he pointed out with a frown. The Nobody really should have known that.

"While what happened may not have been your fault, now everyone who read that bulletin post thinks that you did it on purpose. Why wouldn't you want to clear that up?" It made no sense. There was one answer that might explain it, and that would be that Luxord simply didn't care, but Sora figured the man was practical enough that he wouldn't want to get a bad name around the institute.

The Nobody shrugged, picking up his glass of water to examine the refractions of light against its surface. "You forget that I've no plans to escape and therefore have no need to make any allies. Anyone who had the common courtesy to acquaint themselves with me would already know I would have done no such thing on my own accord," Luxord tilted his head to the side, giving Sora a pointed stare, "unlike some others."

Really, this was just bringing back his headache. Not eating anything was bound to make it worse, but it seemed the Keybrat would not take that hint either.

"Why should I clear my own name when it is not imperative for me to give it out?"

It looked like Luxord wasn't going to budge, and the look he was getting from the older man was only emphasizing how unwanted he was. Sora dropped his chin into his hand and let out a sigh, wondering why he had figured this would go well in the first place. Then again, they hadn't gotten into any sort of physical fight, so that was always a plus.

"You're just planning to stay here?" Sora asked, biting his lip as he frowned. That was a depressing thought, but since Luxord might not be able to exist anywhere else, he could understand the sentiment.

"Anyway, I'll leave you alone now," he said, pushing himself up from the table into a standing position. Maybe Luxord didn't care, but Sora could always put a message on the board on the man's behalf.

Stay here...? He thought of it all too often, if the sudden glazed look in his eyes said anything. It was all so tempting to simply give in to the lies, to fold as his last remaining card meant nothing. He was silent for a moment before hearing the last of the boy's words.

"That would be greatly appreciated." He couldn't even look at his food anymore.

With a sigh, the boy reached forward to grab his plate of half-eaten food. He gave the Nobody one last look that lingered between guilt and confusion before turning to look over the rest of the cafeteria.

Seeing how there were quite a few new faces around, Sora figured he might as well go help one of them out. He spotted a rather strange-looking guy sitting all on his own and decided he should go make him feel welcome. So off he went, without looking look back.

[To here.]
