Day 34: Breakfast

[starting off in M13]

The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves.

To Homura, whoever that man was, he sounded a great deal like a god.

But before he could ask questions, the demi-god found himself no longer in the chapel, but some strange room on a bed. Is that what Kenren had meant from his earlier warning? Homura sat up, glad at least that the world didn't spin when he did so. Then the same man from before began to speak again, with a completely different tone. It was confusing to hear him talk that way, calling them patients instead of prisoners as he had before. Homura listened quietly as the announcement was made, then got out of bed.

Maybe he wouldn't have to go anywhere yet. It wasn't like Homura knew where to go anyway, and that meant he had time. If this was his room, and if he had been here as long as Kenren had said, there was a chance he could find something with answers. The Taisho had even told him that Homura had seen Rinrei. Certainly he would've written something down, made a map, something that could let him find her again! He started with the desk at the end of his bed, first finding a small stack of notebooks. Picking up the first, he flipped through, turning the pages with quickening desperation as he found each one to be blank.

He regarded Frey quietly in thought as the Dawn Rune bearer sighed and gave his answer. Each night was proving to be just as unproductive as the last, and he was beginning to wonder if the only way out of this infernal pile of rocks was to end ones life.

An option the Star Dragon Sword flatly refused to do.

"I see," He murmured before looking down at his tray of food with disgust. "I managed to make it over the wall last night. Yet I still found myself back in bed regardless of how far I traveled."

That was really depressing news. It seemed the disembodied voice of the Doctor hadn't been lying about that much--escape was no more within their reach now than it had been two nights ago, or three. "That's... unfortunate." Frey tried to be diplomatic and not show the depth of his disappointment. Depression served no purpose. He had to remain strong, or this place would truly drive him mad.

Despite Frey's attempt, the Star Dragon Sword could sense the disappointment in the Dawn Rune Bearer. There was little he could do about that fact, and he wasn't going to coddle the little human.

"I will be heading back over the walls tonight." He stated and watched Frey thoughtfully with his amber gaze.

"I will accompany you." Frey spoke firmly, but still somewhat gently. He couldn't afford to just let other people lead him around, in this place, but it was difficult to start asserting himself without anyone to back him up. Still, the Sword had already demonstrated that he was not opposed to his company--he kept seeking Frey out, after all--so this was a small, relatively easy way to start making his desires known, Frey thought.

The Star Dragon Sword regarded Frey thoughtfully as those firm words were spoken. This was, perhaps, the first time that he had witness any form of resolve within the Dawn Rune bearer.

"Very well," The Night Rune said after his moment of silence. Nodding his head, he glanced down at the revolting pile of food on his plate as he frowned. "I am accompanying a human female outside of the walls. Your assistance would be appreciated, Frey."

A woman? Frey hoped that the Sword was a little more patient with her than he was with everyone else, but at the same time he rather doubted it. Hopefully the woman was strong-willed like Sialeeds or Lucretia, and not sweet and gentle like Luserina. Well, she was putting up with the Night Rune well enough to accompany him, so that was probably a good sign.

Asserting himself had gone reasonably well, too. Frey held back his sigh of relief, only smiling slightly and inclining his head. "Are there any particular dangers I should know about, outside the walls?"
