Day 34: Breakfast

[starting off in M13]

The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves.

To Homura, whoever that man was, he sounded a great deal like a god.

But before he could ask questions, the demi-god found himself no longer in the chapel, but some strange room on a bed. Is that what Kenren had meant from his earlier warning? Homura sat up, glad at least that the world didn't spin when he did so. Then the same man from before began to speak again, with a completely different tone. It was confusing to hear him talk that way, calling them patients instead of prisoners as he had before. Homura listened quietly as the announcement was made, then got out of bed.

Maybe he wouldn't have to go anywhere yet. It wasn't like Homura knew where to go anyway, and that meant he had time. If this was his room, and if he had been here as long as Kenren had said, there was a chance he could find something with answers. The Taisho had even told him that Homura had seen Rinrei. Certainly he would've written something down, made a map, something that could let him find her again! He started with the desk at the end of his bed, first finding a small stack of notebooks. Picking up the first, he flipped through, turning the pages with quickening desperation as he found each one to be blank.

"Africa?" Tyler bluffed, looking innocent and intrigued. "I think everyone from this planet has heard of Africa."

"No." Scar answered, clearly not satisfied with Tyler's answer. There was a hint of irritation in his voice for having to point it out, though the events last night might have had something to do with it as well. "The Pride Lands." It took all of his willpower not to add 'you idiot' after that sentence, but considering this boy obviously wasn't a foolish hyena, he would not get any answers by insulting anyone.

A sigh escaped his lips. "Because, judging by your reaction, it would seem you somehow know of it." How else could Tyler know that The Pride Lands had been located in Africa?

The feline was no fool, obviously, so he wouldn't drop the subject until he would receive an answer that would satisfy him or until he'd be herded to the next activy shift. It was rather suspicious; first the reaction to his name, now this. He wasn't becomming paranoid by simply being in this facility. Definitely not!

And then, he added on a little friendlier tone: "Of course, if you have a perfect logical explanation, by all means, feel free to share it."

"I probably heard about it in school," Tyler answered with a casual shrug of his shoulders, trying to play it off dismissively. "The lion prides there and all. I always thought Africa was pretty cool. You ever been to Timbuktu?"

"School." Scar echoed, tone flat. He hadn't seen such a casual explanation coming. Not that he knew what 'school' was, but he filed it away as another one of those 'strange human things'. They had quite a lot of those, hadn't they? Merely thinking about the amount of terms he had come across nearly resulted in another headache.

Though the explanation sounded logical enough, there was still something that irked Scar. As far as he knew, no one in the entire Savannah or the area around it had ever saw a human before. If humans knew the area was called 'the Pride Lands' and that there were lion prides living within that area, they should at the very least have visited it sometime, right? Perhaps he was looking too deep into this or he was really becoming paranoid, but wasn't that strange? Surely, a human would stand out, be noticed by at least a few of the animals. Word would certainly spread. It'd be difficult to keep silent about it, no matter which King happened to be ruling at the time.

He supposed it was worth looking into, but wondered if he could get more information out of Tyler. Pressing might have the opposite effect. The bulletin board, perhaps?

"I see." he replied, though his tone and expression hinted he wasn't completely convinced just yet. And then the King realized Tyler had asked a question. Did he attempt to change the subject? "I haven't."

"Oh," Tyler replied, looking stumped for a moment. "I was there once. Thought it was kinda overrated, though. Is it nice, in the Pride Lands?"

Scar was more observant than people gave him credit for, but if this was the person - lion? - that Tyler thought he was, that shouldn't really be surprising. But he had no intention of letting anyone else know that. He figured this place was traumatizing enough for people without realizing people in other worlds had watched their life in a movie theater or read it in a book.

He was still struggling with the mortification of that himself.

Scar was still blissfully unaware of the fact that people in other worlds knew of his entire life. But his interest was piqued, and he decided to pay a visit to the bulletin board. If the Pride Lands were something human beings knew about, then surely, Tyler wouldn't be the only person.

"A better place than this, obviously." Scar eventually answered. Not that that was difficult to accomplish. The drought problems and the food shortage seemed like rather easy things to deal with compared to all the things going on here. At least his world didn't have any decaying monsters roaming about. "What about your world?"

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-01 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"A lot better than this, too," Tyler replied with a wry grin. "I come from a little town. It's quiet, but I like it. This place... it's like being sucked into one of my comic books or video games."

"Except there's no save spots or weapon upgrades," he added after a moment, grimacing. He figured the reference would be lost on the other man anyway.
longlivetheking: (Surprised)

The reference was indeed lost on Scar. He blinked, not bothering to hide that he couldn't for the life of him figure out what Tyler meant. Comic books? Video games? Quite possibly more strange human things.

There was only one way the King could possibly reply to this: "Your...what?"

[identity profile] shyboyblue.livejournal.com 2008-08-02 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Uhh..." Tyler blinked, trying to think of how to explain thos to a person who had never seen a comic book or video game. "They're forms of entertainment back in my home. Stories told with pictures. You read comic books and play video games - you actually manipulate a character on a screen and watch what happens as he goes through the story you're playing. There's a lot that are scary or dangerous stories, which is why this reminded me of them."
