Nightshift 33: Activities Shed

[ from here. ]

The inside of the shed was dark and dusty, and Kairi found herself coughing and sneezing within moments of entering the small room. Moving her flashlight around slowly, she made sure that there was nothing in the room – that she could see, anyway – that would jump out and attack them.

“Coast is clear!” She called back out to her friend, waiting for him to get inside quickly so they could plan the next step of their job.

So far, so good. Kairi only hoped their luck would continue on through the rest of the night.

Sora would have liked to go in before her, since there was no saying it was actually safe in there, but Kairi beat him to it. It all worked out in the end, and he followed after her soon enough, closing the door behind him. That way, if something did decide that they were worth attacking, they would get some fair warning first. He really hoped a fight didn't break out in here, though, since they would be effectively cornered.

"There should be some bats around here that you can use," he said, using his own flashlight to look around. It wasn't long before he spotted some.

"There!" he said, quickly maneuvering around the different equipment in order to get to them. "Hmm..." He looked them over, scratching at his head as he considered. "Do you want a wood one or an aluminum one?" He was still kind of iffy about the idea of Kairi having a weapon, but it was a lot better than her being completely unarmed.

Once Kairi had made her choice, Sora reached out for an aluminum bat and started to head over to where she was examining some of the other items, holding the makeshift weapon out to her. "Here you go!" It wasn't something to be excited about, necessarily, but he didn't want to sound bothered about it, either. He had mixed feelings when it came down to it, but he knew that Kairi would probably feel much safer this way.

As for anything else they could take, it was hard to say. A lot of it was too big for them to carry, but there were a few things that caught his attention.

"Maybe some of these helmets or pads?" he suggested, moving his flashlight over them so she could get a better look. "It might cut down on soreness." Like the way he was feeling now after forcing the door open, for instance. Not that he really planned on wearing any of this stuff himself - he was more thinking that it might be a good idea for Kairi.

It didn't seem like the helmet suggestion was even debatable with Kairi, so Sora figured he would just let it slide. It wasn't like head injuries were all that common, so didn't think he should make a big deal out of it. (Besides, she probably would look pretty silly wearing one of those.)

He ran a hand through his hair and laughed at her comment before nodding and heading back out of the shed. It might be kind of hard for Kairi to climb anything when she was trying to hold both a bat and a flashlight, but they would figure something out.
