Nightshift 33: Main Hallway, 1-East

Renamon continued into the next hall, both more comfortable at the lack of people and more on guard from a forced sense of alertness. Preliminary searches showed nothing but the dark though. She couldn't complain.
She was fine with the silence but wasn't sure of her companion's preference. To strike a balance she just asked a question. "What did you do last night?"

She was fine with the silence but wasn't sure of her companion's preference. To strike a balance she just asked a question. "What did you do last night?"

The girl perked up at the question, as if it had triggered some interesting memories. "Oh, not much," she answered with a dismissive hand wave. "Just ran across an old friend and went exploring. Didn't get very far, though."
A pause. "How 'bout you?"

She lightly smiled at the girl's rundown of her night. "Sorry to hear. I fought an undead cat and learned about healers and the Chapel's false powers. My group didn't go very far past that." She conveniently left out the fact of Toboe disappearing. There were still parts of her that wanted to shield people from things like that. Even though she knew it wouldn't last forever.

There wasn't anyone at all in this section of the hallway. Was Badou sure they were going the right way? Well, he was the one with the freaking map. And the flashlight, at that. So he should know.
Dammit, why had she gone and lost her light? This was so stupid. No light, no weapons... Alkaid was a walking target. At least she wasn't covered with blood this time, a lure for some crazy-ass vampire...
Which reminded her. "Uhh. Thanks. For last night," she said in a clipped tone. "I mean, you tried to get that vampire thing away from us. So."
As long as he didn't let this get to his head...

It wasn't like him to give away free information but maps were readily available, just like the schedule. The best he could hope for was the brownie points. He'd been about to start another argument just to fill the weird silence when Alkaid spoke up again.
"Huh? Yeah, that seemed like a good idea at the time. It's a lot more badass when I don't get my face smashed in."
Badou twitched the flashlight beam into the next corridor.

The broken doll needed new parts. Though the fractured holes and chipped paint didn't diminish her use entirely, the flaws were bothersome. Her systems were never functioning properly anyhow. With a frown, River continued down the tight rope, careful and careful as could be.

This place was as silent as they had left it. Toph strained her ears and stretched her toes but fortunately found no clicking nearby.
No choice then but to continue down this corridor.

Late late late. If Keman had been born a white rabbit instead of a large, greenish-blue dragon, he would've been muttering to himself while clutching a large fob watch. Fortunately, nature had allowed him to keep some of his dignity, so he settled on jogging through the hallways as fast as he could without flat-out running to Valyn's room.
It had been worth it, though. He smiled, rubbing his now functional left arm. He wished it hadn't come at so high a price, but...it was still worth it.

Continuing to lead the way, Hitsugaya passed the double doors of the sun room. He had a bad feeling coming from that direction, but quieted his nerves for now. Of course he had a bad feeling. There was always a bad feeling. As he passed further on, he took a left at the hall leading past the doctor's offices and into the greenhouse yard.

Celes frowned as they approached the hallway for the doctors' offices. She'd not yet been on this side of the building, and the idea that something impossible might be waiting for them was a heavy one. "Which office shall we breech first?"

Her footsteps echoed in the silent corridor. The feeling of dread and hopelessness in the pit of Ami's stomach was increasing and her hands began to shake. She paused yet again, leaning against the wall and closing her eyes. What should I do? The black pit of despair was threatening to overwhelm the young girl. This place...was damaging her spirit to almost beyond repair.
Ami had never felt as completely useless and alone as she did right now. A single tear escaped from her eye and rolled softly down her cheek to drip from her chin. What can I do in here? I haven't got any kind of physical abilities, my senshi powers have been stripped away, and even my intelligence can't get me or anyone else out of this situation. Despairing thought swirled around her mind. And Usagi... What if she'd lost Usagi!? She would have completely failed as a senshi. Protecting her princess was the most important job Ami had...and she'd failed at that too. That made up her mind. She had to check the labs in case Usagi had been taken to one of them. Wiping her eyes Ami walked towards the stairs, thoughts of torture at the forefront of her thoughts and making her feel sick to her stomach.

The hallway remained just as vacant as the others he had travelled down this night, and it left the Sword wondering just how long he had slept once darkness fell. It didn’t bode well that such a thing happened two nights in a row. Were the powers behind this institution attempting to stop him from reading the stars? If they knew anything about his realm then it was a good possibility, but he wouldn’t let mere mortals stop him.
Glancing back over his shoulder to his female companion, the Star Dragon Sword checked to make certain she was still safe before turning his attention back in front of him. “Is it a rare thing, in your realm, to have humans shift into such a state?”

She had to walk quickly to keep pace with the now gigantic human, but she managed it and tried to keep a constant watch on their surroundings at the same time.

Nobody at the nurse's station. Of course. Phoenix sighed, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. He'd gone to camp enough times as a kid. He knew a snipe hunt when he saw one. Crazy head doctor or no crazy head doctor, that monster stuff was a load of garbage. He could just imagine Gumshoe and Edgeworth now, hooting it up at how gullible he was. He blew a rebellious bit of hair out of his eyes, frowning deeply and glancing aside. Maybe he hadn't known Edgeworth-from-two-years-ago as well as he'd thought he did. Maybe being here had done something to him. Maybe he actually did have a memory disorder and Edgeworth had been doing this on a weekly basis for months.
He swallowed as a new thought occurred to him, snapping him out of his dark mood. Or maybe Edgeworth was actually crazy. Maybe he really did believe that there were monsters waiting around every corner. Maybe he honestly thought that he'd arrived here instantaneously from a point two years in his past. Maybe the stories about his father's voice in his head . . .
The dawning, terrible epiphany was interrupted by the sound of something skittering by to his left, and he whipped his flashlight to the side, just catching a glimpse of something shining and pale disappearing down the hallway that fed the next block of rooms. The clacking noise faded slowly, and he swallowed, walking cautiously closer to the hallway with the intent of peering around the corner. Just making sure that it was his imagination, he told himself, heart thudding in his ears all over again. A long day and frazzled nerves. Definitely not a gigantic bug.
