Nightshift 33: Walk-In Refrigerator

[From here]

It was cold. But for once, it wasn't the first thought that crossed Wolfram's mind as he was practically thrown into the giant cooler. He was more worried about his eyes than anything. It still hurt to open them, and when he tried nothing would focus anyways. And he could still hear what was going on in the kitchen behind him.

Crawling over to the nearest side, still clinging possessively to his items, he tried to focus on listening for Aidou and "John" as best as he could, trembling more in fear than from the cold. Not that he would admit to being almost terrified. No, of course not. Wasn't like he wouldn't be seeing that ugly thing in his dreams for the next five years at least.

So they were able to escape after all. Not as if Jade ever doubted it, but there seemed to be more important matters that he had to attend to before they could continue on with this little escapade.

Paying no mind to the fact like his legs felt like they were about to buckle, Jade briskly followed his Majesty as the latter made his way to the trap door. He had shot his arm out to grab hold of Peony's wrist, pulling the man back and forcing him to stop in his tracks before he went about his work. He was quick to shrug off his coat, casually pulling off his own shirt and reached over to lift up at the tattered remains of his friend's. After inspecting the wound and making sure to pull away any shreds of cloth that clung to the scratches the colonel then wrapped his article of clothing over the injury and pulled the makeshift bandage into a tight knot.

"Don't think I'm through with you just yet," Jade commented with his usual smile as he pulled his coat back on. While one would have found his actions to be somewhat spontaneous, he was very aware of his own responsibilities. When all of that was said and done, he glanced over at the direction that his Majesty had been walking towards, taking notice of the dark 'block' in the corner of the room.

Somehow, they had made it. Considering his wounds and the fact that he was the last one to start running, Guy was also the last one to make it through the door. Now that he had a moment to think, he could tell that the upper right side of his body wasn't doing too well. The gashes on his arm weren't bothering him as much as the fact that the green ooze that had come out of that creature seemed to have destroyed his shirt. If it could burn through cloth, then there was a good chance it could burn through skin.

The servant watched as Jade stripped and figured he would follow suit. He pulled his shirt off and then used a clean part of it to rub at his side where the green stuff had brushed against his skin. He didn't know if that was going to do much good, though, and he was pretty sure the area was starting to burn.

They still needed to get down to the basement, though, so he wasn't sure if he should bring it up. But the longer he left it, the more it started to hurt. He kept his shirt held against it as he slowly moved over to where Jade and Peony had congregated, holding the meat cleaver in his free hand. "That was a close one," he remarked, trying to speak around a wince. At least some of them had gotten out of it unscathed. And the attack Jade had managed back there had been pretty impressive! Not that he was too surprised by that.

Since he'd been in the place, Haseo had never actually encountered any of the monsters that people had spoken about like that. At least with the experience of having encountered one he could see a little why people had spoke of them with the dread that they did. That also proved that getting by them wasn't impossible, so all he would have to do was figure out a way to do that like those guys seemed to.

Haseo took to crossing his arms and looked on the others patching one another up. (Nevermind the twinge of guilt for having not helped at all.) Maybe there was something inside the room they were in that could help them heal up a little better, so he took a look around the icebox: There were a bunch of food ingredients--which would've been great if they were hungry, but food seemed like the only thing that was well supplied during the day--but nothing that would prove useful for healing injuries. The next room had that water decoration thing that he'd noticed last time they were down there. They could use that to clean any blood off or green..stuff in Guy's case.

"Hey," He was a bit hesitant to mention it considering it seemed like the other three got along well enough on their own, but it was a habit to act as party leader. "There's this fountain thing in the next room. We can use that to clean up and take a break in the meanwhile." They'd probably need a bit of time to figure out that door anyway, depending on how good the "expert" was.

Slender fingers caught Peony's wrist. As such, he found himself stopping and wincing as Jade pulled the tatters of cloth off his back and replaced them with fresh cloth. He looked back for a moment and saw that Jade and Gailardia had both shed their shirts.

The emperor couldn't help but grin as he passed the beam of the flashlight over both of their forms, but his expression soon turned to a smirk as Jade pulled his coat back over that creamy soft skin. "..I'll hold you to that," he murmured back to his best friend. (He had to keep the bystanders wondering, didn't he? Nothing wrong with a little innuendo!)

"But you guys were good back there. Really stellar." He hadn't noticed Gailardia's injury, but it didn't take a genius to be able to tell that something was wrong with him. If the younger blond didn't bring it up, he wouldn't, either.

"Take a break?" Peony grinned at Haseo. "You think these old bones can't handle a night of adventure? Come on. Maybe we'll actually get somewhere tonight."

With that, he disappeared down the trapdoor to the basement.
