Nightshift 33: M21-M30 Hallway

[from dinner post]

... the doctor sounded tired. Shawn wasn't sure if he preferred that voice or the more youthful one in the second announcement but either way, he figured, this guy's still fucking nuts.

Talk about Sci-Fi gone wrong. Gus would've loved this, even if Shawn knew the other wouldn't have been able to stop shaking in his slippers long enough to go into full dweeb mode. Shawn committed both announcements to memory-- just because authenticity sounded verified, it didn't mean he could trust anything that was being said especially when it involved so-called advanced technology, a "shield", and some kind of super hacker. Hackers, honestly. If the act didn't involve Angelina Jolie in any way Shawn just wasn't interested.

He held pushed at the prematurely opened door, looking out into the dark hallway warily. Pulling back in, he cast an almost-cautious grin at Peter. "After you...?"

Like he was going to go out there first. Yeah. Right.

Dinner was mostly uneventful, seeing as how Wolfram had collapsed onto the bed as soon as he was brought into the room, barely even acknowledging his roommate He curled up in the blankets and finally allowed the darkness to completely swallow his consciousness for a while. He didn’t even bother to taste the food, not even the ice cream, looking forward to the idea of just forgetting everything, if only for a few hours.

Part of his brain was worried about not being able to wake up again in time, so his sleep wasn’t as deep as he would have liked. But by the time the intercom made its first announcement, Wolfram was suddenly aware of things again, disoriented but awake. What he had caught of the first message that had woken him up was definitely strange sounding, at least stranger than what was normal. He sat up, leaning against the wall on his bed, drifting in and out of sleep until the second announcement occurred. Something strange was definitely going on, although he had no idea what it could be.

For now, he had to get to the entry way and soon. Aidou certainly wasn’t going to be able to say that he wasn’t up for the challenge of being able to keep up for the night – he would make sure of that. And perhaps the other boy would understand what the strange comment meant having been here longer.

But what to bring? Wolfram groggily pulled off his pillowcase as he’d seen John do the night before, and stuffed in his worthless radio, the extra set of batteries, and an extra shirt to be able to rip apart for bandaging if needed. The only problem would be carrying it; should he have to defend himself, whether or not he found a weapon, the makeshift bag could get in the way. He tucked it under his right arm, since he wanted to use his wrist as little as possible anyways, and if he needed to find a better solution later, he would. The flashlight was held in his hand, currently off as he reluctantly stepped back out into the darkness and down the dark corridor.

It sounded like Landels had themselves a nice security breach.

Brock got up in a smooth motion, heading to the door. The symbiote's third eyelids slid sideways to cover his own eyes, forming a white, filmy covering he could see through. The blond's own vision was about as crappy at night as a regular human's, but having an alien hitchhiking in your body tended to bolt on some improvements. Its night vision was pretty grainy, like watching an old school movie, but hey, he'd settle for this instead of nothing, even if it was creepy. Brock took comfort in having someone in here with him - the symbiote was clearly a person, no matter what Parker thought of them - and he stepped outside with two goals in mind.

Deal with Sylar. See what he had to show for himself - if nothing, then they'd kill him tonight. The chances of Elle running into them again were pretty small.

Then they'd check out this security breach. Maybe this was their ticket out!

Brock licked his lips, running his tongue over the points of forming fangs, and left his room, heading down the hall.

Hitsugaya stepped outside of his room, curious by the words on the intercom. So the walls were actually deceptively short, protected by some kind of shield...and from Martin Landel's words, it seemed those shields might have gone down.

Screw the previous mission. The key could wait. If they could actually scale the walls tonight, have a chance at escaping and hiding even until the morning, they could find out a lot more than just discovering where the key he had went. Who knew how long this opportunity would last?

Still, first things first, he had to meet up with Rukia. So after dressing into his uniform and grabbing his blade, he stepped out of his room and leaned against the wall, waiting for the other shinigami.

Hm... now that was an interesting turn of events. A very worrisome turn of events, too; too many things were changing all at once, as though the Head Doctor was moving right along his scheme and wasn't hampered at all by everything that the patients were doing. If that was true, then Adelheid could only fear that they were losing, which... which put Rose even further out of his reach.

And there was nothing to make, alchemy-wise. Zuko hadn't posted, and he didn't have a copy of the keys. Well... that left him free to try something else, at least. Perhaps to see if he could get out of the Institute and try to explore or something. At least he was rather more armed than the average individual; he took flashlight and rapier in hand, and waited outside of the door as he considered his next course of action. ...and once again, he was shocked at himself, hesitating because he didn't have a partner. In times past, he would have sworn that he needed nothing of the sort...

What the hell was going on this nightshift?

This wasn't the first sign that something had just crawled up Landel's ass, but it was the biggest one he'd noticed so far. That intercom message (no doubt not his doing), the strange behavior, the doors opening right in the middle of his speech?

All signs pointed to Landel losing the control he'd so prided himself on. Even though he'd killed Jack, another head had risen from that particular corpse.

"Jill", huh?

Sanzo dropped the used cigarette on the floor and ground it out with a sandle.

Well, that was...interesting. Valyn set out his mage light and set about changing, stripping off the uniform provided by the Institute. He didn't entirely understand all the words from the radios and intercom, but it sounded as something big had happened.

What, he supposed they'd find out. Something about the walls? He frowned, pausing as he picked up his trousers. Had the rebel faction that used to be led by the radio man actually broken through the defenses?

He hoped the others showed up. Maybe they could make some progress tonight....

[Coming from here. (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/393089.html?thread=31774593#t31774593)]

Shana moved quickly up the hall, the sound of Valyn's magic getting louder now that she was closer. Knowing he was expecting them, she didn't bother to knock, merely pushed the door open and...

Froze in surprise two steps in, as the elven lord was illuminated by the beam of her flashlight. And was currently standing facing away from her without his pants. Emerald eyes widened in surprise, then roamed over over the nice view of his backside and legs with appreciation, even as her cheeks flushed hotly.

After she'd looked her full, she reluctantly cleared her throat to alert him to her presence, although if she was honest, she was half-tempted to stand there and admire the sight until he noticed on his own. It was such a nice sight, after all, and it made her stomach flutter around in very unfamiliar ways.

No roommate tonight. Ed didn't know what had happened to Hiei, but it was enough to make his temper flare again, the spark he needed to get his blood boiling once more, make him want to hurt something, one particular something, more than he'd wanted to ever before.

He dressed quickly, pulling on his coat and pants but leaving the gloves in his pocket for now. He didn't want to bloody them with Envy's filth. He stepped outside and quickly spotted Adel along the corridor. He should warn him about Envy, and probably ask him to keep an eye on Tamaki, just in case Ed didn't... No that was stupid because Ed always won. It wouldn't be like last time. There was no familiar face that he could change to to make Ed pause.

He approached Adel, expression deadly serious. "Hey, Adel. I have a favour to ask."

[identity profile] grosse-sklaven.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that was strange... normally Edward was either grinning or aggravated, never with that deadly serious expression that he was wearing now. All of the times that Adelheid had seen it before, it had always been a tremendously bad thing. And a 'favour'... that was worrisome as well.

Very worrisome, if Adelheid was right. The taller boy inclined his head, worried about what that request might be. "I do owe you one, so ask away."

Expecting Shadow - he was generally the first one there - Valyn just bent to pull on his trousers and looked over his shoulder as he hoisted them over his hips.

"Always on....Shana?" He froze, trousers held at his hips, feeling a bit awkward. How long had she been standing there? Didn't she know to knock?

"I... assumed Shadow would be here first. Please pardon my state of undress."

Shana shot him an impish grin, looking rather pleased with herself as she arched an eyebrow at his obvious embarrassment. "Oh, I don't mind at all," she replied, an impish tone in her voice. "Take your time. Really."

Re: M25

[identity profile] notmyfather.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
He had to chuckle a bit. "No, I suppose you don't." He belted his trousers and turned to fetch his shirt. It was ridiculous to feel so uncomfortable. It was just Shana, and regardless of anything that was between them, privacy really wasn't something one could have here.

"You're early," he went on, straightening the garment. "I've no idea when Shadow will be joining us, and I seem to remember Keman had some other obligation at the beginning of the night?"

[identity profile] lost-metal.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Ed went to lean against the wall next to his friend, fingers clenching and unclenching in frustration. He wanted to punch something and if it was Envy's face than so much the better. Any part of Envy. Even a generic monsters would be appreciated.

"I need you to take care of Tamaki," he said, the implication that Ed might not be able to very obvious.

Shawn arrived late, but at least he showed up in the end. Peter had already had to deal with one roommate who disappeared on him suddenly, so he didn't need to go through it again any time soon.

Before they even got a chance to talk, though, the intercom was going off. It was a lot different from normal, too, seeing how the doors opened before they were supposed to and some strange recording played. Things obviously weren't going right for the Head Doctor, which made Peter wonder if outside forces really were trying to help them.

The loud noise that came from somewhere in the distance had him frowning, but he didn't get much of a chance to think over it, seeing how it was already time to go.

Nodding to Shawn, Peter grabbed for his shovel and flashlight and headed toward the door. He glanced at his roommate as he stepped outside. "Did you have plans for tonight?"

"He said he would meet with us later on, if we kept a magelight burning," she answered with a cheeky grin, moving to perch on his bed in front of him, enjoying the view from this angle, too. "I'm sure Shadow will be here soon, though. He's as antsy to get something done as I am. What do you think about the message overhead tonight, though? Did that make any sense to you?"

Re: M25

[identity profile] notmyfather.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"You know Shana," Valyn said, placing his hands on his hips and raising an eyebrow. "You don't need to make me feel as though I'm on display." He supposed he shouldn't make it so easy for her, placing himself on display as he was. Though he doubted he made as much of an impression as he used to, as laced with scars as he now was.

"Well, we can stay here then, and leave my light out. And I don't understand it at all, other than... I think someone's breached a defense somewhere."

Re: M25

[identity profile] hamenleai.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well you're on display so very rarely," Shana countered logically, though her eyes glinted with amusement as she grinned up at him. "Can you blame me for taking advantage of it?"

She thought about that for a moment, recalling the confusing words that had been broadcast. "Well, if that's the case, that might make things easier for us, then. When Shadow gets here, should we head outside and check?"

Re: M25

[identity profile] notmyfather.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, I suppose I can't." In a rare pleasant mood, and not feeling particularly bothered by Shana's affection and attention, Valyn tossed his shirt aside. They had a bit of time before Shadow arrived, after all, and there was no need to allow it to be wasted by sliding into bickering. "Take advantage all you'd like, then."

He sat across from her on the other bed, nodding. "It may be worth it. It was a confusing broadcast, and I feel we're missing something, but if we've guessed correctly...."

Itachi left his room as soon as the doors unlocked and set off determinedly down the hall, pillow case and flashlight in hand. He didn't know what the announcement meant, but he had a job to do. He had not met up with his History Club team last night, and he would correct that state of things.

This place. . . it controlled him, it used him, it even mocked him. The old resentment, reawakened from his slightly more impulsive youth, simmered behind his dim and fettered eyes. How degrading, to presume that his abilities could simply be directed as the Institution wished. How bewildering, that he could lose control again and again in this place. And on top of it, he still could not see, but none of that would affect him. It would rationally determine his motives for taking down the Institution, but it would not affect him. He would proceed with the mission.

"That could be a dangerous permission to give me, you know," she pointed out with a mischievous grin, eyeing him across the room, before bounding up and moving to sit beside him. She looked up at him, shooting him an innocent expression. "It's easier to take advantage of you when you're not all the way across the room," she explained, smiling up at him angelically.

Re: M25

[identity profile] notmyfather.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Valyn shook his head. "I suppose it is. I did mean visual advantage, you know. But I imagine you'll argue that I didn't specify, and therefor can't complain."

He knew there wasn't any point to it, anyway. Shana was, he suspected, more stubborn than he was. And he truly was tired of fighting with her constantly, and having to talk awkwardly about things he didn't like talking about.

It was probably easier, at this point, to flirt and tease and simply make her happy.

"But I will remind you that the rest of our group is on their way. So whatever advantage you intend to take, be certain it won't take very long."

Re: M25

[identity profile] hamenleai.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
For a moment, Shana stared at him in stunned disbelief, certain she couldn't have heard him correctly.

"Did you hit your head today?"

[identity profile] grosse-sklaven.livejournal.com 2008-07-09 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
More than the words, it was Edward's actions that told Adelheid a great deal. Something was worrying the other blond, something was making him furious and making him also consider the possibility that he might not be able to protect Tamaki from whatever it was. That alone was a red flag; Adelheid had never known Edward to make such preparations.

"...I can, but you'll need to tell me why you can't." If Edward was considering the possibility of not coming back, then Adelheid was going to be forced into the uncomfortable position of putting friendship against his honor.
