Night Shift 32: Main Hallway 2-Center (Includes Sun Room halls)

[running from here]

John grabbed Wolfram's arm and ran, his flashlight bouncing around in his grip. He needed to get a grip. He couldn't freak out. Freaking out led to rash decisions and he couldn't afford those at the moment. It didn't help that he kept hearing his mother hurrying him on in his head.

Run, John! You don't stop! You always run!

"Yeah, yeah, run... I got it, but where?" he said to no one as he paused only a moment before dragging Wolfram down to the right, aiming for the doors across from him. "Let's hope my good luck holds out and one of those doors is open."

She could see much of anything when they reached the second floor. There were a couple groups of people standing around, and the moving beams of their flashlights illuminated small areas of the hallway. The rest was blackness, though.

She waited for Mozenwrath and Nakago, who seemed much nicer than his cranky friend, thankful for the brief pause. Her right foot was throbbing where her two smallest toes had been. She kept the pain to herself, though, and turned to the two men. "We just have to go down to the end of this hallway," she said, pointing to the right, "then turn left at the hallway there."

Nakago's own flashlight did little to illuminate the actual hallway, save for the path before them, a fact which annoyed him. In the dim light, the creatures had an advantage. He could only hope they managed to avoid said creatures up here.

He nodded, although he was not certain she could see it in the dark. From what he could recall of the map, that sounded accurate, at any rate. "Lead on, then."

Nakago continued to turn everything over to this newcomer. Maybe he knew something Mozenrath did not, but as far as he could tell, all they'd gotten out of Rukia was:

1: She wasn't a monster. So she claimed
2: She had a weapon
3: She all too conveniently was heading the same way they were

He had thought Nakago to have more wits about him, but perhaps not. Sulking, Mozenrath trudged behind, debating what to do if they WERE being led into a trap.

Neither of them seemed to have any objections, so Rukia continued on down the hallway, slowly enough to remain quiet, and to avoid hurting her foot too much. It was still throbbing, but the stairs seemed to have been the worst part. Hopefully.

There were several small groups of people in the hallway, but Rukia chose a path that kept her, Nakago, and Mozenwrath at least a few feet from the others. Non of them seemed to be any more than regular patients, but it never hurt to be cautious.
