Day 32: Sun Room (2nd shift)

After the couple glasses of water Leon managed to gulp down during breakfast, the mage felt immensely better. He was still a bit tired, but that was nothing a little lounging on one of the sofas wouldn't cure. Stretching his arms above his head, he couldn't help but wish he'd had the chance to grab one of his new doctor's coats before leaving his room that morning. Maybe they would have let him get away with wearing it. Maybe.

He grabbed an empty sofa, pulling out the journal he tried to keep on him at all times. It was nearly complete now. Just a couple more pages to go. It might not improve his spellcasting that much, but any improvement was better than none. It was getting to where it might be too dangerous for him to use spells at all, if it left him so worn out without even finishing a monster off.

[Waiting for Junior and Kunzite]

Breakfast had been an interesting one, leaving Homura to consider the plans and possibilities for the upcoming night. It was an interesting game, picking which players were best suited for the tasks, and one that grew more difficult with the addition of people he knew nothing about. It was one thing when the demi-god could place people together based on personality and ability. The situation he was in now, however, didn't always allow for it. Time was simply too limited to meet everyone he had to meet during the day, and those he wanted to meet.

Such as Sanzo. There the priest was, looking as thrilled as ever. But Homura didn't have time to say hello to his favorite mortal, and so he kept out of the man's path and waited by the bulletin, reading the various notes left so far. He was supposed to meet three this shift, and could only hope good things came out of it. Between the routine necessities and everything Homura wanted to accomplish, he needed numbers.

Breakfast had been interesting, but it went a bit quickly for Junior. He'd have to find that Leon guy again sometime, and maybe catch him in a better mood. He seemed like he'd be interesting to talk to.

But now it was time to get to work, and he couldn't miss this meeting again; or at least, he didn't want to. It wasn't fair that he schedule time with the guy and then miss it. Junior knew how busy it could be running something.

The redhead made a beeline for the bulletin board once he got out of the cafeteria, spotting a tall man standing there reading posts. There were always a few people coming and going here and there, but the guy had said he'd be waiting there for them. "Hey," he said as he got closer. "You Homura?"

Homura turned at the address, seeing a boy who matched the description he'd read earlier on. So this one was Junior, the one who had already worked in the History Club, but who Homura hadn't met before today. Still, he'd already succeeded in one task, put him on the demi-god's good side.

"I am. You wanted to talk about the History Club." The others who were supposed to meet them had yet to arrive, but with the limited time, it was likely better to start the conversation now. He could repeat things later if he had to.

"Yeah," Junior replied, nodding. "I've already got an idea of what it is we do. Same thing as most of the groups, try to find a way out, cause some trouble for this place while we're at it. I just wanted to know if there's anything else you're gonna have us do that we should be aware of. Yanno, anything where we may need to reserve the right to say no."

Not that he was planning to, unless the guy wanted him to go attack other patients for one reason or another. He wanted more to make sure he wasn't blindly following the guy because he promised escape. If it meant the redhead got more jobs similar to the one he had last night, he'd be okay with that. Just so long as the question didn't piss off his boss.

"Also, I was thinking...do you think we could look more into how they bring people back to life? Whatever technology they use for that, it can't be too unrelated to however it is they bring us here. It'd probably also be easier to find."

Oh, neither question pissed off the boss. In fact, the latter not only made Homura feel rather happy, but allowed him to more easily answer the first. He wasn't one to normally use deception, to restrict the choices of those around him, and in time, he would offer the choice to each member of his group. But now, in these early phases, it was unquestionably important to only tell his intentions to those with a similar goal. It would be hard enough to prepare for without those who would stop them having advanced warning.

"I intend to do just that, my friend." Homura's smile showed his cunning, and his excitement over some far off dream. "We're no where close to the goal just yet, but in time we will discover more...and hopefully we will be able to put that technology or magic to good use."

To save Rinrei, and others. But even if it were only to save Rinrei, and not even himself, Homura's desires wouldn't change.

"And that is my goal, ultimately." Homura glanced around the room then, able to pick out the various people that had come to work with him rather easily. "However, when the time comes, each member of the History Club will be allowed to choose if they want to work towards that goal or not. Our actions are still generally purposed; otherwise everyone would have been asked the question already."

"So tell me." His two-toned gaze came back to Junior, studying the shorter man. "How far are you willing to go if it meant you could bring back the dead?"

Junior was kinda relieved to find that Homura had already considered it, and that he would give them the choice. Looked like he'd picked a good boss. He wasn't sure how to answer the question, though. He'd seen the results of quests like that for himself; after all, MOMO had been born through Mizrahi's desire to see his daughter again, and the Gnosis were the dead who just wanted to live again.

That didn't mean he wouldn't want to try it himself, though. Gaignun and Sakura were at peace, he was sure, and maybe even Citrine...but what about the other people who had died because of Gnosis, violence, or even illness? Wouldn't it be fair to give them a second shot at life? The Gnosis...if there were a way to give them a physical body, make them human again, then wouldn't they want that? Not to mention that technology could also help them in the long run towards getting out.

Junior looked around the room and spotted MOMO. What exactly would she think of the idea? "It's not our place to play god with someone's life, or even the institute's place, even though they've got the power. No one should do it just because they're able to." He looked back up, meeting Homura's gaze. "I've got some people I'd love to see again, but they seemed pretty at peace when they left. I don't want to bother them. But in some cases...people do deserve a second chance. I think I'd do whatever was in my power to give those people their second chance. When the time comes, you can count on me."

And just like that, Homura already knew he liked Junior. Perhaps he was naive, but that wasn't so much a fault in the demi-god's eyes. Innocence was something precious, a fleeting condition that so many worked to destroy. Regardless, Junior had taken a firm stance, and one that Homura agreed with. Even the gods who had the power without playing at it had no right to use it as they had. And certainly some people did deserve that second chance, the restoration of a life cut painfully short.

So long as Junior felt that way, Homura was willing to have him along.

"Well put. There are some things you need to be aware of, however." Homura didn't know where the other two were, but it was fortunate that they hadn't shown up. "Most important is the fact that the goal is an unpopular one, and certain other patients will try to stop us. Whether you choose to fight them or not is your decision. But for now, I'm going to insist that you not speak of this goal to anyone. The topic will likely be brought up, as I intend to find others willing to acheive it. But if the wrong people find out about it too early on, they'll try to stop us."

The shinigami, and who knew who else. Even confirming what Junior had requested had been a risk, but necessary. They simply had to minimize the risk for as long as they could, until they found something more concrete.

"That includes others in the History Club. Not everyone is aware of this goal, and until we know more, I intend to keep it that way."
