Nightshift 31: M21-M30 Hallway

((Specifically in room M22))

This night was shaping up to be another long and tiring one. Adelheid mentally ran through the checklist of things to do: give a spear to Yukari Takeba, create the sakabatou for Himura Kenshin, sharpen Kenren's blade... and then, if he found a moment to breathe, to do something to let off some of the anger he still felt. At least he wasn't powerless tonight; that was the only good thing for him to look forward to. It had been too long since he'd gotten to fight something that wasn't a patient.

He kept one ear on the radio, still wondering if Jack was honestly gone and convincing himself that such could not be the case. Besides, he was too busy to feel grief now. He had to focus, or else this night was going to be just as frustrating as the previous one.

"I'm healing slower than I normally would." He usually didn't get injured this much at all, really. Not much could hurt him anymore.

The muscles in his back twitched slightly at the touch. "Only from tight muscles. After decades with the limbs, my stance had changed, among other things. I still occasionally forget that I do not have them here, and find that I am trying to move limbs that are no longer there." At some points it felt akin to what amputees were supposed to feel, but without the trauma of injury.

Faust nodded, understanding the phemomena. "Understandable. Still, keeping yourself tense like that isn't good for your over-all health. When you can, try to work to adjust how you stand and move. That will help alot of the tension here," he ran his hand across the shoulder blades, "and allow you to move a lot smoother and easier."

Getting off the bed he took in all of the large man sitting there. "Were you always this large or was that a side effect of what happened as well? Or were you larger before?"

"I do try. The limbs usually kept a certain level of cosntant motion, regardless of what I was doing. It makes it more difficult to stop the muscles from tensing now." While he missed that aspect of his former self, the movements of the limbs could sometimes give more of an obvious indication of his mood than his tone or expression. Hiding his true intent was somewhat easier here.

"I was approximately the same size as I am now, although I did gain a bit more muscle mass after I gained my powers. All of it also became highly resistant to any sort of force, and many times more powerful than I had been before."

Faust nodded and opened his mouth to say something else when he seemed to snap out of whatever trance he'd been in. "I'm sorry. I almost got carried away. I did not mean to take up so much of your time Mr. Richter. What can I do to repay you for your time here?"

He would need time to analyze what he'd learned today and there might be another chance to continue the examination at a later date. It wasn't as if they were going anywhere.

"It's quite alright." If Faust had gotten too carried away, Recluse would have put a stop to it. "If you find any chemicals that could be useful for poisons or explosives if you make your way upstairs, I'd be quite interested in getting my hands on some of them." It was much easier to get these things done when he could just contract out others to do it for him.

"Certainly, I will keep my eyes open." He remembered the room Farfarello and he had raided the previous night. "I will let you know if I find anything useful at all."

Faust stepped back and bowed his head. "Forgive me for keeping you. I didn't mean to hold you here as long as I did." Old manners were comming back to him, from a time when they actually mattered.

Recluse stood, picking up his sword. "Not at all." The politeness was faked, but as much of an automatic response as it would have been for anyone. Less so, possibly. Not many people would have consented to this in the first place.

Faust went to the door and opened it, more out of the ingrained sense of propriety than actual feelings of kindness. "Please be careful out there," he said, actually sincere. "There is still a wealth of information to be had from you, Mr. Richter. I would rather learn all I can from you before the autopsy."

Recluse paused for just a moment, something still human about him taking a little while to fully acknowledge what the more rational parts of his mind had immediately noticed. "Thank you. I'll try to remain animate for as long as I can."

"Animate is easy," Faust said with an utterly innocent smile. "It's alive that's difficult. Have a productive night, Mr. Richter. I look forward to speaking with you soon."

Recluse really should have seen that coming. "Yes, it is. The same to you." He walked out into the pitch black hallway, heading out of the cell block.
