Nightshift 30: M81-90 Hallway

The radio crackled to life, and a strange voice emerged. Archer had been wondering what purpose the radio served. He doubted it was psychological warfare via Enya, but hey, he wouldn't put it past the Institute. Deciding to pocket it, he opened up his closet and geared up. That essentially meant putting on a large gray sweater and overlarge coat. Gray definitely wasn't his color.

Archer was about to leave when he remembered his pillow. It had felt awfully hard. Searching it revealed a durable, black flashlight. He'd probably need this too.

Pausing for a final glance around the room, Archer decided he was ready to leave. He exited his room, ready to see what horrors Landel's had to offer.

"Hmm. No monsters? That might make things difficult!" Xelloss pulled out his copy of the maps, looking over them with apparent concentration. "Well, we could meet with other patients. There is that Saint Francis group helping heal people! Of course, they're probably very crowded, and arriving unannounced might be more annoying than helpful." He studied the map some more. "Or we could try going outside. If it doesn't look too busy, there's the exercise equipment building. Do you like playing sports?"

"Not... really." Leon was a scientist and user of heraldry. Sports were boring and pointless. He didn't even have much interest in the Tournament of Arms when that was held, no matter how big of a deal the city made it. Not that he didn't know plenty of good fighters. It simply wasn't his cup of tea.

Not to mention that the last time he went out to the Recreational Field at night he got attacked by one of the other patients. No thank you. It was too good of a place for monsters to be.

"There are healers here?" Of the magical variety or just the regular kind? Either or would be worth a visit. He wondered if Claude knew about them...

"Oh, my. You don't know about them?" Xelloss blinked openly at Leon for a moment, even though he himself hadn't actually gone to see those healers at any point. White magic was something to be avoided in general, even if it couldn't be sidestepped altogether and in this body might prove useful someday. "Yes, the Saint Francis Club, I believe they were calling themselves."

He raised a finger in the air slightly as a new idea occurred. "Don't you read the bulletin board? It can be quite useful at times, I try to check it regularly! If you haven't got a map, we could make a copy for you. And if you have one, we can at least mark where the healers are on the off chance that you might need to find them for yourself. Or did you have healing abilities you wanted to offer tonight?"

Leon did check the boards! Occasionally. Usually he looked for his friends' handwriting or for requests for services he might be able to provide. (It never hurt to make new allies after all.) This was only if he got the chance, though. Recently he hadn't had many opportunities to get to the sunroom. It was possible he'd seen something about this Saint Francis Club and simply hadn't remembered it among everything else...

Well that would need to be rectified. "I have a map," he answered, tapping the journal he kept tucked in his waistband. "And no, I don't have any healing abilities of my own. I'm simply curious." He wished he did. It wasn't an ability granted to those on Expel. "Do you know the room number?"

"Curiosity can be dangerous, but I suppose checking a club room is safer than most activities for this evening." Xelloss conceded cheerfully, taking out his map and glancing over it. "Room M35 is the Saint Francis Club. That's only a few hallways over, would you rather head north or south to reach it? North, we'll have to pass outdoors, although we can stay close to the building. South, we'll pass down one of the main hallways."

He lowered his own map, looking expectant. Really, when it came to following rather small and young-appearing individuals, Leon was much easier to get along with than Lord Hellmaster. Not that Xelloss had any real loyalties to him, but he hadn't seen the boy in a while and reinforcing his relationship with a friendly contact couldn't hurt. Particularly with Amelia and Zelgadis wandering about...

"South," Leon responded quickly. Any way he could avoid going outside he would. Bad things happened outside at night, and he'd yet to run into anything dangerous just in the patient hallways. (Good luck on his part, mostly.) Besides, he'd been south before. "It's safer that way."

It didn't really matter to him at this point if Xelloss thought he was a wuss or not. The man seemed nice enough and he had to know how dangerous this place can be. Surely he wouldn't blame him?

"South it is, then!" Xelloss nodded. He was dubious of the suggestion that the path would be safer, considering that monsters seemed to be equally frequent inside and outside of the building, but he'd left the choice to Leon and both routes were equal so long as neither of them knew what would actually await them on their route.

Their destination was a little odd, but he'd never seen the Clinic himself, when he thought about it. He had sent the oddly secretive young man he'd met while working with Arts and Crafts in that direction once, but the night had ended before anything had come of it.
