M-A Block Hallway

[Coming from here.]

Daemon paid little attention to any of the doors he passed, taking no time to watch where he was going or check if there was anyone or anything in his way. His attention was completely focused on that one distant pulse, which was growing ever closer. He could feel her, she wasn't far away. After all this time.

It was all he could do not to just spend his magic and take down the walls that separated him from her in order to be there more quickly.

[Racing here.]

Sanzo halted as soon as he reached the main hallway out of the block, fishing out the flashlight and flicking it on. The monk shown it on the second map in his hand. He'd taken one of Hitsugaya's map copies on the way out - hadn't bothered to hide the fact he was taking one, but also not bothering to ask. The priest wasn't usually one to ask permission for much before, and he didn't see the point of observing manners now when it just wasted time. The kid hadn't bitched either, so it worked out just fine with him.

Pain in the ass sometimes or not, Hitsugaya was nothing if not thorough. Sanzo let the flashlight roam the page. A lot of ground covered, with only a few missing labels of unexplored areas. The kitchen wasn't among any of the explored areas, which narrowed it down to the few blank areas.

It made this a little easier. Sanzo wasn't ever one to place too much on the gods, but at least it looked like they weren't trying to screw him over tonight.

It'd been some time since he'd left Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon was still making his way, slow, careful progress in the dark when one had to constantly stop and listen (with all senses) for any hostile creatures in the area. He'd stopped to pause yet again and consult the maps that young Artemis Fowl had given him when he paused, noticing another patient who seemed to be doing the same with a map of his own in the gloom. Qui-Gon could barely make him out.

"Hello," he said, making himself known. No sense startling the other patient, not here and now.

Sanzo turned, the flashlight flicking from the map to the other man's chest. He was tall, taller than the monk had expected. He was older than most of the patients he'd encountered so far, the long hair that rested on broad shoulders starting to gray.

He seemed to give off a tranquil air that reminded him - vaguely - of his master. It was pretty damn rare to see it in a person, much less in Landels. It was enough to make him reconsider just brushing him off like he normally did.

Interesting enough.

"Yes? What did you want?" Sanzo asked.

Qui-Gon came closer, but still kept a respectable distance, for both himself and for the other patient.

"I couldn't help noticing you seemed to be lookinga at a map," he said. He nodded toward the journal he had in the crook of his arm. "I have one as well. Perhaps we could compare them?"

It would be beneficial for both parties concerned if they did. Qui-Gon believed that any information he had about this place, anything at all, should be shared. Anything to help his fellow patients better prepare themselves and protect themselves. Knowledge could be just as useful - if not more - than any lightsaber or blaster. Ignorance could be the greatest enemy.

Somehow it was hard to find anything annoying about such an obvious statement. And normally it would have annoyed the monk. Maybe it was because he reminded him of his master, or maybe it was because he just got straight to the point, but it was hard to muster much irritation at the man.

Why was he meeting more of these people, people who didn't test his patience from the start, here and not on his travels?

And there were those missing areas on his two copies of the map. It was worth checking if this man had those filled in.

"Fine with me," Sanzo replied. He adjusted the map and turned the flashlight back on it. "There's a few missing areas on this, like the kitchen."

Tilting his head, Qui-Gon came closer and bent down to look at the map in the other man's hands. It was a little hard to make out with only the weak light from the Earthian glowrods. The kitchen area wouldn't be a problem, he thought - he'd been over the map young Artemis had been so kind to supply them with and he recalled that it'd included the kitchen.

"Here," Qui-Gon said, retrieving his own map. He kept his voice down; while he didn't sense anything hostile in the immediate vicinity, it was better not to test what luck they had. "You can access the kitchen by the Sun Room, then going to the cafeteria," he trailed a finger up the neatly drawn map, "and there appears to be a door to the kitchens here."

It was quite a ways to go, looking at it. He was familiar with this route and had even been the kitchens before with Obi-Wan. But familiar and safe were two entirely different things in Landels and there were no promises that just because you made it there fine the first time that the second time wouldn't be different.

Sanzo was starting to get suspicious about just how smoothly things were going so far. Things were going almost too well compared to the usual bullshit he faced on a daily basis. Usually when that happened, it all went to hell soon after.

The priest leaned over to watch the other patient's finger move across the map, committing the path it drew to memory.

"It's not too far from here." The priest straightened but didn't put away his map just yet. "You found what you were looking for on mine?"

[identity profile] qui-gonjinn.livejournal.com 2008-01-24 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
The young man's map was a bit more extensive than Artemis's. What Qui-Gon needed was more time to pour over the map, copy it to his journal, but it would be impossible with this kind of light - not to mention foolhardy to stand around in enemy territory. He would have to seek this patient out during the day shift, when it would be somewhat safer for the both of them.

"I would need more time to know for sure," Qui-Gon said quietly. "But now is neither the time nor place to be standing around longer than we have to in one spot. I've been to the kitchens personally; I could be of some assistance if you could use it."

Either that or he would continue on his way to the doctors' offices.

Sanzo didn't answer immediately, thinking the offer over. He was usually inclined to say 'no'.

Traveling as a pair could be both good and bad, depending on how trustworthy the other person was, and whether he'd slow the priest down or not. It might be safer in numbers. Maybe. If he wasn't one of Kougaiji's bounty hunters.

While he could be an assassin, no assassin he'd encountered so far had been anything like this. This kind of tranquil presence couldn't be faked.

Whoever this man was, he wasn't some hick in some dusty backwater in China. Sanzo was very sure of that, at least. All in all, the priest was actually relatively curious about this patient, and that was something, considering he usually made it his business not to give too much of a shit about other people and what they did.

That was it then.

The monk slipped the map into one of the sleeves. "Alright then," said Sanzo. "Let's get moving,"

The flashlight swept towards the door.

"What's your name?"
