Rukia had spent the morning sitting in a pew in the chapel, unable to get any sleep despite her exhaustion. Ichigo was gone again, as well as Urahara and, it seemed, quite a few others. She had hoped that Orihime and Ururu wouldn't notice, but their posts on the bulletin board clearly proved otherwise.
How could Ichigo be gone again? As with the first time he had vanished, she hadn't felt his reiatsu waver. He was simply... gone.
Still moving slowly from her injuries, Rukia followed her nurse into the cafeteria. She needed to talk to Renji at some point, and find out her orders from Captain Hitsugaya, and she wanted to see her brother. Instead, she ended up picking out a few things for brunch and standing there in the cafeteria, tray in hand, feeling a little lost. She saw Renji, but he was already being bothered by that awful young man, Aidou. Rukia just didn't feel as though she was up to that sort of aggravation.
Then she spotted Ururu, sitting by herself and looking forlorn. Rukia approached, mustering up a smile as she went, and stopped a short distance from the little girl. "Good morning, Ururu," she said, "How are you?"
