Day 29: Sun Room

It was with some relief that Yuuhi awoke the next morning, in his own bed, sore and tired and achy.  He would've slept more had they let him, his face down in the pillow, away from all the others and their questions and their concern.  He didn't want to see them, but he managed a little smile when the nurse came in and didn't object when she lead him out into the open hallway that had been splattered with blood, plenty of it his, just last night.

The Chapel or the Sun Room?  He felt he had good reason not to be terribly religious and had a feeling he wouldn't be very welcome there anyway.  The Sun Room would be nice though.  It was bright and cheery and he could always doodle or write notes on the community board if he'd nothing better to do.  Besides, the nurse was kind enough to let him take a book with him.

He found a seat on one of the couches, far from the entrance and seated himself in the far corner, legs scrunched up against his chest so he only took up one of the cushions.  He opened up where he'd left off, fingers carefully turning the worn pages  of Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz.

"Your empty sulking impresses no one, X," Saïx observed absently, not really paying it much attention at all; he was busy contemplating. He still wasn't clear how, exactly, Luxord's cards could specify the difference between death and disappearance without telling him what exactly had taken place, but truthfully, it didn't much matter. While understanding their abilities as Nobodies was certainly helpful, it had always taken a back seat to working towards regaining their hearts - after all, the quicker they managed that, the sooner such knowledge of Nobodies would become irrelevant to them in any case.

In the meantime...Xemnas was gone. Not permanently, perhaps, but that nevertheless meant that Saïx was no longer able to take a passive role - he could no longer simply enforce someone else's will. He was Xemnas' right hand, and in the Superior's absence was required to act in his stead. He neither embraced nor resented the sudden responsibility - it was simply something he accepted because there was no other recourse. Xigbar was the only other possible candidate, and he was unfit for the job - in fact, it was entirely likely he wasn't interested in it even to such degree as a Nobody could be interested.

"What of the others?" he asked finally, deciding that he'd prefer to hear the extent of Luxord's knowledge before asserting his authority as the second-in-command.

...hey now, no one answered him! Ignoring the freakin' Freeshooter? Unforgivable! Fine, he'd just have to blind them with science remind them that he wasn't just a surfer guy with awesome scars and sweet hair. He was a smart surfer guy. "Lighten up, Seven; it's not easy to bash your head against a brick wall after talkin' to him. Put it simply? This isn't the first time that people have gone missin'. I think Nine's been yanked back and forth several times already, and he's not the only one. 'sides, there's a difference between dying and disappearing. One happens like that-" Another snap of his fingers for emphasis "and the other can take awhile, when you break it all down to the basic level. Nerve functions continue even in 'instantaneous' deaths, an' the body's still there even when it's dead. Time keeps ticking for all the elements there, which is just a bit different from someone getting swiped out of nowhere. Then you start gettin' more complex answers, and Ten deserves a break for even going as far as he did."

And as he said that, his eye sparkled with amusement as he glanced to Luxord. He wasn't sure if the other Nobody wanted to play ball with this, or even if Luxord cared about Xigbar's hamfisted attempt to bail him out of a long-winded explanation, but the effort still had to be made. They were, after all, still homies deep down.

Luxord blinked at the Freeshooter, obvious blinded. With science. trying to comprehend just why the other was bothering with the niceties. It was not as though he'd needed the gunner's help, so the Nobody obviously wanted something out of him. Hmm…

…okay, perhaps that was paranoia speaking. Could they blame him for thinking such things?

But at least the exposition was out of the way. X nodded along with II's words, quietly petting Tyche as she gradually began to calm down. When he finished, Luxord shook his head with practiced ease at VII's question as though he'd not said that obnoxious remark first. "What others, dear Saïx? Did the Superior not teach you the calamities resulting from ambiguous pronouns?"

Saïx gave Xigbar a look that was more disdain than actual annoyance. "All possibilities must be taken into account, Xigbar," he informed the other man coldly. "While I might not question the Gambler's reliability outside of this facility, knowing our powers are weakened changes things. That his results might be erroneous due to that is not so far-fetched, and a reasonable question to ask - as is inquiring into the method by which his results were reached, in order to eliminate that possibility of errors having been made. Whether or not you feel such precautions are redundant means nothing to me - and, as I meant nothing personal by my inquiries, your defense of Luxord is needless and a waste of our time. In any case, once he assured me mistakes were not a possibility, it ceased to be a concern, so there is no need whatsoever to persist. I have already moved on; do try to keep up."

His scathing gaze then turned upon Luxord. "What others matter? The rest of the Organization. What have your cards told you of them?"
