Nightshift 28: F21-F30 Hallway

[from here]

Momo glanced down the hall, hoping to see either knights, but it seemed they were the first there. And the shinigami couldn't remember what Hokuto's room was.

"Which one's yours again?"

Hokuto took a few steps past her and then actually did a cartwheel--so she liked to show off (even if Momo could probably do it better). "F21," she said, straightening up.

She was worried about lack of the rest of their team, but that nearly flew out of her head entirely when she reached into her closet and found something that was definitely not Landels issue. She grabbed it eagerly, and managed not to squeal too loudly when she saw what it was. Yesss!

She didn't want to lose this outfit either (again, anything was better than the usual uniform), so she quickly stripped to her underwear, folded the jeans, shirt, and sweater, and stashed them in the corner of the closet. The nail polish got tucked into her jacket pocket, just to be safe, and then she changed into what was suddenly her favorite outfit (http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b247/Clover-Elf/HokutoPracticalOutfit.jpg).

The shorts and sleeveless shirt wouldn't protect her against much of anything, and the thigh-length vest wasn't exactly going to keep her warm, but it let her move freely; besides, they did enough running around at night so getting cold generally wasn't an issue. The shoes did have cushioned soles, and buckled securely enough so she didn't have to worry about them falling off--unlike the slippers they were issued here.

Grabbing her shovel, she turned to Momo with a very happy grin. "Okay, let's go."

"Uh, an example of what was in fashion in Tokyo, circa 1991," Hokuto said, wondering why Momo was asking... did she think it was too revealing? "I actually haven't worn it in a while, sleeveless shirts went out of style." In here, considering her choices, she no longer cared. If she was able to get out of here and resume her life... yes, she would still keep up with the latest fashion trends if at all possible.

Their outfits did look drastically different; it was hard to believe they came from the same country. Then, Momo's was traditional, going back generations and worn by countless people for centuries. Hokuto's had been very popular for a couple of months there.

"What? You don't like the garters?" Hokuto had seen where she was looking.

"I'll be fine," she added. "It's comfortable, I don't get cold easily, and it lets me move freely." She could only imagine the shinigami's reaction if Hokuto had been wearing the rose-petal dress.

Hokuto couldn't help but think the shovel she was still stuck with looked more than a little silly with her outfit, but--in the usual Landels uniform, she looked so horrid she actually tended to avoid mirrors. This was an enormous improvement no matter what she was carrying.

"Yeah. Stockings like these slip down eventually, so the garters keep them in place. Tugging at them constantly is a pain." Was it rude to ask Momo what year she was from?

"Okay!" The fact that she'd been crying still showed a little, but she was cheerful again for now. The outfit helped a lot; she knew how shallow that made her seem, but if she was easy to cheer up, what was wrong with that?

Though honestly, she was worried. Even unarmed, she was sure Signum could fight, but they'd been taken totally by surprise. Would she think to meet them back at her room at all, since it was so far out of the way from the entrance?

Hokuto stood nearby and watched, worried. Momo couldn't find them, could she? If so, what did that mean?

Subaru couldn't see ghosts here, so it probably followed that Momo wouldn't be able to find the spirit threads of people who had died... but they could be weakened in living people, right?

She kept quiet; Momo would tell her whatever she needed to know, and didn't need to be interrupted.

"Okay." Hokuto sorted through the closet, grabbed Signum's coat, and turned back. "Where are we going?"

She also vaguely wondered who was going to carry Signum's sword; it wasn't too big for Momo, but Hokuto wanted an excuse to be armed with something halfway decent for a few minutes!

...either way, maybe she should rip up a sheet and find a way to tie the shovel to her back for easy transport.

Hokuto watched closely; she wasn't as good at improvising as Momo, either, and that was something else that she should learn. The swordplay... well, with a few centuries of practice, she would hopefully get that good. The improvising looked like something she could actually learn here.

She did her best to strap her own weapon to her back (getting it out in a hurry might be a problem, but she did it) and said "Ready when you are."

As Usagi rose from bed the first thing she noticed was that it was still dark out. That could only mean one of two things, either no time had passed or she had slept through an entire day. Using the scientific method Usagi put her hand to her mouth, took a whiff of her own breath, and deduced that she had spent the past day in bed.

Usagi let out a deep sigh as she hopped out of bed and into her slippers. Normally wasting a day to sleep would have been great, but when it happened at Landel's it worried her. Peering under her bed she found the goody bag of things they had gathered from the janitor's closet. It only had first aide items in it, but it was better than nothing. The bites on the back of her neck reminded her of the dragonfly attack from the night before... she had no idea what happened to Naruto, Ami and MOMO. Venturing outside would be the only way to find out.
