NIGHTSHIFT 28: M31-M40 HALLWAY
(From here.)
Artemis poked his head into Farfarello's room, and seeing that there wasn't anything waiting for him, entered. "Right," He stopped in the middle of the room and turned, "Where do we start?"
Why did the room suddenly feel like it was the size of a matchbox?

"What, you don't like games? Not even fun ones? I'd suggest 'I Spy', but that's a little silly in a dark room." Dark rooms also made it hard to tell if your eyes were closed or not. Funny how that worked.
"So, uh, I don't think I ever got to ask you what your world was like. Just kinda ended up rambling about my own. Are there any crazy technologies or special what-have-yous?" It was idle talk, but maybe it would keep them both awake until Yohji got back. He was only going right next door. That shouldn't take long...

He groaned softly, burrowing into his pillow again, so his voice was muffled when he finally spoke. "A lot like this, I guess. Nobody lives in space or anything, but we have some technology."
In other words, pretty middle-of-the-road, as far as worlds went.

"Really, I'm surprised you weren't laughing at me earlier. Talking about big machines of destruction and outer space travel must sound like something out of some kind of sci-fi movie for you, huh?" Kinda like the way Quatre had scoffed at time travel... And well, Duo had, too. At first.

"Like the kind Yohji-kun watches, yeah." His voice sounded like someone who was more than halfway to being asleep. The bed wasn't this comfy before, was it? "My first day here, I met a girl who'd never even heard of Earth. She was from a whole 'nother world. After that, it's kind of easy to believe about other stuff."

Yohji left the clinic and headed quickly into the next room along on the other side. Bandages, he needed bandages. He pulled off a couple of pillowcases, deciding that they were his best bet, and then headed back to Omi's room.
He dropped the medical supplies down on the desk. "Hey. Managed to get some things to take care of you," he said, managing, with some effort, to form a rip in the pillowcase and starting to tear it up into bandage-like strips.
"Which one of you is worse?"

"Our knight in shining armor returns," came Duo's mumbled reply to Yohji's return entrance. He had to roll his eyes at the blond's question, though. Did it really matter who was worse? "I'm just peachy. Go help your friend first."

But then Yohji was back, and it saved him from answering. That was good, in more ways than one. As much as he was coming to like Duo, he still wasn't quite the familiar anchor Yohji was. Now that the pain wasn't dulling everything else out quite as much, the feeling of being trapped, hurt and alone in the dark, had been starting to pluck some mental strings, things that he felt like he should know but didn't, and he wasn't sure he wanted to know where they led.
But Yohji coming back helped settle that, a little. "'M fine."

He went over to Omi's side and then gave him an incredulous look when he insisted that he was fine. "Yeah, I'm sure you are. That's why you're half unconcious in bed with your back shredded to pieces. Let me look." He grabbed a bottle of painkillers and opened them, tipping a few onto his palm and then tossing the bottle over to Duo. "I hop you can take them dry because I don't think the water in this place at night is good to drink." He turned back to Omi, holding out the pills. "Same goes for you."
no subject
from experiencethat just because the pain had died down now, didn't mean it was gone."No problem. I don't think taking a few pills dry is going to kill me any worse than getting mauled by a bird." Getting the cap off might, though. It took Duo two tries to realize this was not the kind you pop off with your thumb. 'Fucking safety lids... Like any kid over six with half a brain wouldn't figure these out anyway.' He was almost tempted to just go without, but that would be stupid.
And he wouldn't want to admit to anyone that he couldn't handle something designed to keep toddlers out of things.Moving his other arm up over his head, he somehow managed to open the bottle and knock a few pills onto the bed cover without actually sitting up. Granted, it was more than he needed, but a little dexterity got the unused pills back into the bottle. Maybe. Omi's roommate wouldn't mind if he woke up with a few stray tablets of aspirin in his bed, right?
Duo twisted the lid back on, and after a little more fumbling, he set the bottle on the dresser next to the bed. With a couple hundred milligrams of painkillers just waiting to dull the pain of having to move again, Duo was perfectly willing to shut up now and let Yohji play nurse over at the other bed.

Especially since now he would have to move. He pushed himself onto his side enough to take the pills, swallowing them quickly. Did he mention he hated doing that? Unfortunately, though the t-shirt may have been shredded, the hoodie was made of stronger material and had mostly just slid with the claws during the attack, so it would have to come off before Yohji could get at the wounds. Which meant sitting up. None of which he really wanted to do right now.
Any help Yohji might feel like offering would be appreciated. Not that Omi was going to ask for it

"Hey, you need some help sitting up?" he asked quietly, leaning in so only Omi could hear him. He wasn't certain how bad the wounds were, but he'd certainly seemed in a lot of paind earlier.

He nodded, hoping Yohji could pick up the movement despite the dim light. Sometimes, like now, it really felt like he was just a liability to the rest of Weiss here. They were always protecting him, and either getting hurt, like Aya, or taking care of him, like now.
Combined with where his thoughts had been slowly heading before Yohji returned, it all felt almost too much to deal with, and he wasn't quite sure why. He rubbed at his eyes, starting to push himself up. "I'm sorry, Yohji-kun."
no subject
He blinked in surprise at the apology, giving Omi a bemused look. "What for?"
