Day 28: Bus 2

The group hadn't made it to the Twin Pines before the nurses started ushering them back to the buses. Sanji didn't believe the small sack dinner he was handed would make up for the meal they would have had at the restaurant, and aside from that he'd still wanted to check the place out. Now he had no way of comparing it to what they served at the asylum and he couldn't help but wonder if the staff had planned it that way.

Somehow in the large crowd of patients and nurses he lost track of his crewmates, something that seemed to be occurring just as often as Usopp warned it would. He had their room numbers now, though. He would find them tonight if not before.

His dinner was eaten quickly and he found it lacking, but he wouldn't complain. What he really needed was a cigarette. Bringing it up on the walk down Main Street earlier had only made him think about it more, and now he was just irritable. He tapped a light broken rhythm on the plastic pane of his window, staring out at the other patients as they were loaded into the buses also.

Byakuya headed away from his lieutenant, towards the back of the bus; for the moment, he wished to be alone. His thoughts had turned... soft, towards the end of their discussion...

Love was not weakness. Mourning was not weakness. To dwell on the past for this long, though... that very well might have been weakness. And he could not abide weakness.

He took a seat gracefully, as always, and stared idly out the window. At that moment, he wished for nothing more than sleep... or, no, not sleep. Sleep had dreams, and dreams were treacherous. No, perhaps meditation...

[Feel free to pester him~<3]

Captain Jack had resigned himself to a lonely, but meditative ride back to the institute when he spotted the hotty from earlier, moving off to sit by himself. They hadn't really gotten a chance to have a decent conversation, with all the interruptions, so he decided to give it a whirl and see how it went. He slipped out of his seat, down a few, and then in to Byakuya's, smiling his same cheerful smile.

"Captain," he said. "Did you enjoy your massage? I think you must've left the place before me."

To his credit, Byakuya did not jump at Jack's sudden appearance. Nor did he flinch noticeably, or whirl around. Really, it was incredible how he managed to internalize his surprise; then again, he had quite a bit of practice with internalizing... everything.

He turned his head towards Jack, giving a nod of greeting, and replied, "Indeed I did. I trust you did, as well? Apologies for my swift departure, but I had intended to meet with a subordinate before the day was through... though, I was unable to find him until earlier on this 'bus ride'."

Though he spoke rather more familiarly than was generally proper, Byakuya simply could not bring himself to fault the man for it. With most, it would seem disrespectful and rude; from him, though, it simply seemed appropriate. Possibly because his demeanor caused one to think that one had known him all one's life...

"That's great," Captain Jack said. "I give a mean back rub myself, but man, the people at that spa put me to shame. But it's always nice to know you can still learn a thing or two, right?" He chuckled. "And no worries, no worries at all. You've got to take care of business. I just thought it'd be nice to say hi again, so long as you're not busy. We didn't really get to have a proper conversation before."

And Byakuya seemed like a rather interesting fellow. And he had a nice ass.
