Day 28: Germaine Street

Rhode didn't want to have to let go of Allen, not ever. It could be forever before she was able to be with him again! But the nurses were persistent in moving her off the big yellow thing, as was Allen for getting away from her. Even outside of the building, people were just determined to keep her from being with him! It wasn't fair!

Once off the bus and shivering just slightly from the crisp fall air, Rhode was handed a small booklet of what the nurse called "coupons". It took some explaining, but Rhode was eventually able to understand that the thin pieces of paper in the book were supposed to be used like money here. She wasn't at all accustomed to buying things for herself; that was supposed to be the Earl's job. When Rhode expressed this problem, the nurse only gave her a sad smile and patter her in the direction of the buildings.

"Why don't you go find something fun to do? There's a toy store just around the corner there. Don't worry about being alone though, we're all here to keep an eye on you. If anything happens, just come get one of us," the nurse explained, nodding to the staff members that were set to parole the town for any problems their more unruly patents could cause.

So, they were all going to be watched even though they could roam about freely? Rhode took a look back towards the yellow things but was unable to pick out Allen from the mess of patients. In a few moments, she probably wouldn't be able to find him at all or for the rest of the day. Should she just resign herself to that for now and use the small bit of freedom to her advantage? Being with Allen was important, and a lot of fun but...

She glanced down at the coupons again, smiled up at the nurse as best she could, and gave a quick, "Okay!" before running off as suggested.

A small bit of freedom was bound to make her feel better. Maybe she could use it to remind herself of how she was supposed to handle Allen Walker, an exorcist. This town did have a similar air to that of the Rewinding Town, after all.

[went here]

"Then we're in a lot more trouble," Captain Jack said. "I've dealt with stuff that isn't machines before, and you can't fight it or reverse it or any of the useful things you can do with machines. You pretty much just have to hope it resorts to finding amusement elsewhere, after a while."

"The chances of that don't seem very likely, do they?" she replied dryly, shaking her head.

"Too bad they didn't bring me here over a week ago. Maybe my 'destiny' would have followed and the comet would have crashed into the Institute instead," Max retorted, smirk once more twisting across her lips. "Shame they couldn't be that helpful."

"Just have to hope for the best," Jack said. "There's really no solid indication of what we're dealing with yet, so that's probably good. Sufficiently advanced technology sure looks like magic, but it's still got an off switch." He seemed quite cheerful about the possibility. "We might get lucky. I've got a friend with a time machine and a built-in trouble magnet, so I'm expecting him to poke his head in at some point. Though soon is a relative term, huh."

He laughed. "The Head Doctor could use a comet in the face. Obnoxious asshole, isn't he?"

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's an understatement," she agreed. "Has anyone actually seen the bastard? I thought he was supposed to be here today? What are the chances of catching him alone in a back alley, I wonder?"

[identity profile] killing-suzie.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know some people have," Captain Jack said. "He showed up in the chapel one more and freaked people out. I think it was before I got here, but I heard about it. And yeah... he is supposed to be around, somewhere." He grinned. "It'd be worth looking for him."

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"How do we know what we're looking for, though?" Max countered with a rueful twist of her lips. "I tell you what, though, it'd take one problem out of our way."

[identity profile] killing-suzie.livejournal.com 2007-11-01 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, if we're going to try to find him, we'll first have to find someone that was in the chapel on that day. So probably someone that's been here at least a week? Maybe longer. Lemme think..." He frowned slightly, but it was just a thoughtful expression. "I think today is Friday, so it was probably five days ago?"

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2007-11-02 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Valyn's the only one I know that's been here longer than a week," she admitted, looking thoughtful. "Then again, I've not had much luck meeting people who stick around much. Dean might know, although I don't know how long he's been here."

Captain Jack nodded. As far as he knew, Gin hadn't been there for the Head Doctor's appearance; while the man played things close to his chest, it's something the he figured he would've mentioned. Most of the other people he'd gotten to know were far newer. "Maybe some of the people that do the groups, like the cooking thing would know. Or whatever the hell arts and crafts is," Jack said. "I know that one, they were already talking about when I showed up, so it predates my arrival."

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I've heard mention of it, but didn't really pay attention," Max replied with a shrug and a rueful smirk. "I'm not one for organized groups in attack procedures, if you know what I mean. I prefer to one-on-one it most of the time. I can move faster that way."

[identity profile] killing-suzie.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Jack nodded. "I'm not one for following orders, myself." He grinned. "Though I like giving them, on occasion." He shrugged. "I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Head Doctor or someone that might know what he even looks like. But I'm kind of thinking a massage, first."

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"You go get your massage, then," she laughed, looking amused. "I think I'm going to go look around some more."

[identity profile] killing-suzie.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
He grinned. "Okay, then. Just make sure you get some relaxation in, huh?" He gave her a wink, as well. "And if I find anyone with the info you're looking for, I'll send them your way. I sure wouldn't mind seeing the Head Doctor get what's coming to him."

Jack wasn't quite sure where the spa place would be, so he picked the nearest street to him and Max and turned toward it.

[identity profile] transgenix.livejournal.com 2007-11-05 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I wouldn't mind helping give it to him," she replied with a lift of her chin in acknowledgment. "I'll find my own way of relaxing. I'll catch you later."

Giving him a wave as he turned towards a side street, she continued heading up the street she was on, hands tucked in her pockets as she eyed the quaint little shops on either side of the street.

...Maybe they'd been sucked into Kansas instead...
