Nightshift 27: 2nd Floor Hallway by Laundry Room Stairs

[from here]

Keeping to where he'd seen on the map, Ritsuka passed by one door and looked for the hallway that resembled what Miku had drawn him. He didn't know what was behind the door, but something gave him bad vibes and he ignored the area. It didn't take him long to get to the second hallway and he paused, trying to remember where things were.

Other than the fact that the Laundry Room was here with a bunch of other rooms, Ritsuka couldn't remember anything. He should have kept asking for maps on the bulletin board, but now it was too late. "We'll try here," he whispered. If there was something lurking in this hall, he didn't want the thing to know they were coming.

Coming out of here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/234153.html), Armand wrinkled his nose. The stench was still evident up here. Maybe not as strong, but still there. He hesitated long enough to sweep the light around the hallway to be sure he was where he expected to be.

No one else had said so, but he wouldn't be surprised if the building changed around at night.

"We're not far now," he assured Citan in a voice he hoped was lower in pitch than his panicky squeak earlier.

"And we're doing fine," Citan said, his tone encouraging. "I do wonder what's happened. It seems as though the nights in this place are getting worse. Or perhaps it simply seems that way." He couldn't be certain. But last night had held that horrible strange ether presence, and tonight...

Well. With luck, he'd have tools in his hands soon. He'd feel far better once he had those.

"It seems last night was terrible for many. I saw numerous injuries at breakfast this morning. If tonight is worse, I fear several people may die." He bit his lip.

He had to pick the right hallway. Right in front of them was a door. No, not that. It had simply opened right up. Armand put his back to the direction that would lead back to the railing over the Sun Room and walked toward the other wall. An opening yawned to the left. He shone the light that way and turned.

At the top of the stairs, Kurama paused to look back at Hiei and Kurikara again. He'd only been here once before, on the night he'd ventured with Yohji and Ken and their friend. They hadn't made it much farther than this, though.

"Any objection to beginning here?" Kurama motioned to the closest door, the one Cliff had tried to lead them through, only to wake suddenly the next morning. The fox had caught a glimpse of a long hallway with many doors, but that was all. It would be a good place to start, so long as Kurikara didn't already possess a map for the hall.

Kurikara shrugged. "It's as good a place as any."

Despite his words, this was his first time actually getting anywhere since his arrival two nights prior. Both eyes were open and alert, surveying the hallway with weary interest. So sterile and human, yet so like the bowels of Tenkuu.

It didn't seem to matter where they went. "Lets try to find a door that the pygmy idiot can reach."

[identity profile] deathbymidget.livejournal.com 2007-10-11 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hiei shot Kurikara a smirk, without a bit of hesitation taking the time to turn his insult around. "Please. You don't really expect the rest of us to limit ourselves for you. We're good enough to make up even for your height and foolishness."

Pleasure done, business next. He looked to Kurama with a nod. "Let's go. I'm eager to get something done tonight other than standing around." Though like Kurikara, this was by far Hiei's greatest accomplishment since his arrival. In the unfamiliar territory, the demon opened the third eye in his forehead, deciding to use it for what he could.

Oh, yes. Hiei and his friend seemed to be having much fun. Kurama couldn't tell if this boded well or not. Hiei's few friends usually tended to be the unruly sort. Like Yusuke. But that was one instance that had done Hiei well. He'd just have to wait and see...

Kurama made no remark to the banter itself, only to move on ahead to the mentioned entrance when no opposition was made.

Usagi stopped at the hallway by the stairs and consulted Ami's map. She bit her lip as she tried to figure out which side was up.

"Right is the janitor's closet, and left is the second kitchen..." She could let the others decide where to go as let the vein in her head stop pounding.

Upstairs. He couldn't pretend that he wasn't a little wary about returning, but at least they weren't in the same area that he and Lee had ventured into before. Besides, he couldn't be wary of the second floor forever, right? Better to face it now.

Naruto kept step easily, as stamina had always been his strong point, but he also kept careful tabs on people he cared for and observed that Usagi was a little bit winded. He watched her consult the map with a thoughtful expression. Maybe he could offer to train her by day, and repay the lessons she was giving him with basic taijutsu. It would also help him, in between training with Sasuke or other shinobi.

But those were discussions for a later time. He grinned into the dark, and suggested: "How about we raid both areas? First the closet, then the kitchen. The night's still young."

MOMO was a little surprised (and concerned) about Naruto's sudden departure, but she had little choice but to follow after him and the others. She was used to having to run distances thanks to certain events from the past couple years, but keeping up with Ami, Usagi, and Naruto proved a little difficult. Luckily Usagi stopped once they arrived upstairs, and the realian was grateful for the opportunity to catch her breath again. Not to mention, the sprint had caused her headache from earlier to return, too.

Regardless, she wasn't going to let that hold her up. She gave a short laugh at Naruto's suggestion, but agreed, "That sounds like a good idea to me. We're sure to find something useful if we search both places."

Ami was used to keeping up with the other senshi, and her swimming kept her pretty fit, so the run up the stairs hadn't winded her at all. She nodded at Naruto's suggestion. "I agree, and if we still have time after that, we could keep exploring this area, since the map is incomplete." And maybe we can find Dr Landel.

Since Usagi had the map and she had take the unofficial role of a leader, Ami gestured for her to continue.

"Okay! Onward!"

Usagi took one more look at the maps and then darted off down the hallway.

Sure that the other two would follow him, Siegfried led them further down the hallway. It had turned quiet again; there was no one but the three of them here. Usually there was at least one or two others wandering around.

Siegfried stopped just outside the hallway he was looking for, making sure he’d got the right one. The janitor’s closet was down there, and hopefully the other two would find something there that they could defend themselves with.

“This way.”

Soubi moved swiftly through the halls, wanting to get this part of the night over and done with. If he woke up before getting Ritsuka alone in his room... well, he wasn't going to be happy. Suoh would owe him. Even more than he already did for grabbing all these supplies.

Ed was so winning this. The ambient lighting created by her flashlight pointed in rather unhelpful directions was enough to see by, at least to continue the race through the halls here. She didn't stop to wait (or to think), charging on to the next hallway, whooping madly.
