The cafeteria was packed. Raiden should have been expecting that based on how many other rooms he had passed, but he was in something of a daze.
So all of these people weren't well in the head, either? All of these people had a diminished sense of reality, just like he supposedly did? That should have made him feel better (he wasn't alone), but he didn't feel any closer to them just because they had something in common. In fact, it was pretty depressing to think that there were so many people who had lost their hold on life.
His nurse made an effort to get him to sit with someone else, and to get something to eat, but he denied both suggestions. He could be stubborn as a bull when he wanted, and he was managed to keep coiled tight enough that he didn't completely lose it and throw a fit. He was too removed from everything to have a reaction like that.
Right now, he just wanted to sit and let everything sit in. He searched out an empty spot in the mess hall, took a seat, and stared down at the table as he tried to order his thoughts.
Jake Edwards. It didn't ring any bells, but that didn't mean it wasn't true. It wouldn't make sense for the Patriots to do this. They wanted him to be useful, so locking him up in an institute and trying to make him think he was someone else wouldn't do them much good.
So maybe the Patriots didn't exist to begin with. Maybe Raiden didn't exist. Maybe Jack didn't exist.
