lighthearted: gesture, smile, down (frustrated)

Day 27: Breakfast

Day came too soon.

Sora hadn't been able to find Rena, had instead been forced to crumple onto the grass of the recreational field and bleed all over himself, and hadn't even accomplished what he'd been sent out to do. What he'd been entrusted to do. He didn't know how he was going to be able to face Renji and the others, but he also knew he wasn't going to hide from them, either. That would just be low, after all, and he was ready to face up to the consequences.

He didn't try to make excuses for himself. Even though there had been a Special Counseling patient, they had managed to take her down by sheer numbers. The fact that he hadn't seen any sign of Rena was what had him the most worried. He hoped he could find her today.

The boy laid in his bed for a good while that morning before his nurse finally came in to collect him. She clucked over the bandages wrapped tightly around his chest and leg, and asked him if he was okay to walk.

Once Sora assured her he was fine (he didn't really want to use crutches, as that would just attract attention to himself, and he didn't need others worrying over him), they made their way to the cafeteria. Sora yawned and winced against the bright light of morning - it seemed even earlier than usual, and he realized why when they entered the cafeteria and found it empty.

The boy shuffled over to grab a chocolate chip pancake, a bowl of cereal, and a glass of milk (good for the bones, or so his mom had always told him) before settling at a table. He kept an eye on the door, hoping he would see Rena walking in soon.

And here the morning had been going so well --

"That was completely uncalled for!" the nurse said, approaching the table with a disapproving frown. "Mr. Morrison, there is absolutely no reason for you to slap Brandon!" Yes, she had seen Brandon stealing Mr. Morrison's food, but it didn't seem like there was a big argument going on. The slap came out of nowhere.

Ah. One of the nurses, referring to him as 'Morrison' again. He turned to face her, face completely blank. "He has been acting unreasonable this entire time. I did not respond to the numerous attempts at insulting me. After the second time he shoved food at my face, I lost my temper." He thought that was a valid reason to slap someone.

Phibrizzo knew he should behave as the innocent little victim, but he was positively outraged at the action the Storm Trooper had taken. If he had stabbed him it would have been one thing, but it was humiliating for one of his status to be so casually struck in such a manner.

He wasn't so stupid as to blow his act completely, though. Biting back his anger, he managed to get out, "He HIT me. He HIT me!"

"I know, Brandon, I saw it," said the nurse. "Calm down. Does it hurt? We can get you ice, if it bruises."

She turned back to Mr. Morrison.

"That's not a valid reason to hit someone at all. If he was bothering you badly, what you need to do is bring it up with the nurses." She frowned at both of them. "Now, if you can't get along, I'll separate you, or can you control yourselves?"

"I had been willing to take his initial offer of 'friendship', but it seemed to not make a difference in the behavior that followed." He sounded completely dispassionate.

"I already requested that he desist or leave several times. I would prefer separation."

Phibrizzo didn't say anything. He just put his hands on his hips and glared.

This one was SO dead.

"Very well." The nurse turned to Brandon, trying to make her expression lighter. "Brandon, let's go to another table, okay?" She picked up the boy's tray and urged him away from the table they were at, glancing one more time at Mr. Morrison before they left.

And now he could eat the remainder of his breakfast that wasn't scattered across the floor. It was something to be happy about, at least. Even if this white milke was a little unsettling to look at.
