lighthearted: gesture, smile, down (frustrated)

Day 27: Breakfast

Day came too soon.

Sora hadn't been able to find Rena, had instead been forced to crumple onto the grass of the recreational field and bleed all over himself, and hadn't even accomplished what he'd been sent out to do. What he'd been entrusted to do. He didn't know how he was going to be able to face Renji and the others, but he also knew he wasn't going to hide from them, either. That would just be low, after all, and he was ready to face up to the consequences.

He didn't try to make excuses for himself. Even though there had been a Special Counseling patient, they had managed to take her down by sheer numbers. The fact that he hadn't seen any sign of Rena was what had him the most worried. He hoped he could find her today.

The boy laid in his bed for a good while that morning before his nurse finally came in to collect him. She clucked over the bandages wrapped tightly around his chest and leg, and asked him if he was okay to walk.

Once Sora assured her he was fine (he didn't really want to use crutches, as that would just attract attention to himself, and he didn't need others worrying over him), they made their way to the cafeteria. Sora yawned and winced against the bright light of morning - it seemed even earlier than usual, and he realized why when they entered the cafeteria and found it empty.

The boy shuffled over to grab a chocolate chip pancake, a bowl of cereal, and a glass of milk (good for the bones, or so his mom had always told him) before settling at a table. He kept an eye on the door, hoping he would see Rena walking in soon.

The dark haired woman from the night before hadn't exactly been first on Leon's list of people he wanted to share breakfast with, and he tried not to frown at her too much as she took her seat.

And was that an attempt at a compliment? If so, she was doing a rather poor job. "Well, you're welcome," he replied a bit grumpily. And since there was very little else on his mind, he then had to follow up with "Have you seen Ashton yet?"

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He shook his head again. Why couldn't they just leave him out of things? "I... I don't want to," he insisted a little more fervently. "I just... I just want to sleep, that's all." He buried his head deeper in his arms, his thin shoulders stiffly drawn together.

Well, he's a good friend to have.

Allen's stomach turned at that. It wasn't so. She only thought that because she didn't know the things he'd done. She didn't know what a horrible person he was or why he'd been the only one to survive. "Don't say that," he told her quietly, barely audible over the buzz of the cafeteria conversation.

[identity profile] usoppsenchou.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yup. Me." Usopp sat down. "Well, you might have gotten run over by a lawnmower or something..." Those lawnmower blades in his closet were starting to affect his brain, he thought.

With a heavy sigh, he pulled out his pill bottle. Nice work on conservation. "Well, do you want some Tylenol? I've got a few. I don't know how much it'll help after getting stabbed by swords, but maybe it'll help a little."

[identity profile] hellmunchkin.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh!" Hellmaster held up a finger as if it had just come to him. "It's the large room we walked in here through! Now, how could I forget that?" He smiled. "I've always been a bit forgetful."

He folded his hands, stopping the inhalation of food momentary. "Why are you interested in monsters, Mister?"

[identity profile] littlestrawdoll.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know how you feel. I could go for a hamburger right now... Although, huh, maybe you don't have those where you're from."

Glad to hear he was better rested, although no doubt he'd lie about the full extent of any exhaustion. Not for any sense of maliciousness, but more out of thoughtfulness for others around him, maybe. Ren understood that - but it was all theory, of course. He'd only been acquainted with the other man for little more than a day.

It was his hobby to wonder, really.

"I'm great. Need some sugar to put up with the early mornings, but otherwise good."

[waiting for Suiguintou]

The shift from night to day was rather confusing for Mewtwo to comprehend at first. He distinctly remembered being at that cold room with Suzumiya, waiting for her to walk, and then the next thing he remembered was waking up in his room with that human nurse chiding him for sleeping in so late.

The nurse would have none of it when he tried to question her on why they were allowed out during night, or why there were monsters prowling the area, or why his arm was bandaged. He tried to present the bandaged arm as proof that he was attacked and that she was lying, but the nurse explained that sometimes the patients had vivid dreams that caused them to hurt themselves.

Seeing that he was getting nowhere with this human, Mewtwo let it go, but this question plagued him. He paid no mind to his food, which he only got because he wanted to think while standing in the line.

This place was too strange. He would have to escape soon.

"Because I don't want to be running blind into any engagement." Especially when he didn't have his armor or weapons. It seemed doubtful that he was going to be released in any timely fashion from a place that let creatures loose on its 'patients'. Some sort of testing facility?

It was hard not to remember the face or the voice that went with it from last night. Though their encounter had been brief, Gin wasn't one to easily forget. He was one of the few who had been smart enough to leave immediately. Though if he was now approaching, even after last night, likely as not, he wanted something.

Gin smiled easily back at the man. He'd been wearing his mask of a smile long enough to suspect when someone else used one as well. No reason not to at least appear friendly though. "Ichimaru Gin. Nice t'meetcha. Glad th' circumstances are a lil' better," he said sweetly.

"Oh," he replied dumbly, deeming the bite of pancake safe. He shoved the fork in his mouth and began chewing, still careful to look out for a funny taste. Danny himself couldn't really imagine not being hungry in the mornings. He always had at least a bowl of cereal before school to keep him going until lunch.

He looked down at his tray, then at the wall behind him, then at his feet, and the other wall....Danny just didn't seem to make immediate eye contact with him.

"So...what are you doing here?" he asked, taking another bite of pancake. While he was here, he might as well figure out what was going on. And maybe even make some friends who could help out.

"I've just sat down," Lust pointed out. "Of course I haven't seen him. And we may not see him until later in the day, considering the severity of his injuries." It wasn't uncommon for those injured to be kept to their rooms or wherever medical procedures were done.

"He was alive when morning came, that's all that matters. If you live through the night, you live."

Bridget frowned. "We a bit, but I didn't find anything interesting, or a way out." Day had come oddly fast.

He frowned again at Allen and his whispered words. It was too much. Bridget had so few friends, that when he made one, he never wanted them to be unhappy.

They might wind up leaving him alone if that happened.

He moved his hand to Allen's back, still making gentle motions. He would have wrapped him into a hug, but he was trying to be at least a bit proper.

Jack perked up at the mention of medication, though Tylenol was a bit sissy. Still, beggars couldn't be choosers.

"Yeah, hit me up." He snaked an arm across the table and winced. Ah, right. That was the one that had been zapped by the lightning bolt. Scowling, he slunk it back and offered the better one.

"And what did you and your cohorts get up to last night, pirate-man?"

Kairi nodded her head in understanding and frowned. “Yes. Though if they did keep those, you’d think they’d have them under much more security,” letting out a soft laugh, she sighed and looked down at her hands. “At least, for me, if I was stronger or better at it, I would be able to call my weapon to my hand, just like Sora can do. At least I know they’ll never get it.”

She was probably confusing Luke, and upon realization, Kairi blushed slightly, shaking her head. “Ah, don’t mind me.”

At Luke’s words about trouble, the princess froze in her seat before relaxing, a small, frightened laugh escaping her lips. “I’d rather not think about that … I’ve already seen what they can do to people when you haven’t done anything wrong … I don’t want to know otherwise.”

Raine was relieved to find the pressing atmosphere gone when she woke up; it actually almost put her in a good mood. As long as she didn't think about what was to come in the near or distant future.

Even that, though, went right out the window when she saw Valyn--she'd seen people fairly badly injured before, but if he was any worse off he'd be in the infirmary. Or dead.

As soon as she'd gotten her breakfast (completely unaware that whipped cream was not usually used as a sausage topping), she sat down across from him and cast First Aid as discreetly as she could. It looked like it wouldn't help much, but considering the pain he had to be in, it was something. Using so much of her magic before she'd even eaten didn't help her much either, but nevermind that.

That done, she asked, "What happened?" If it didn't hurt him to talk...

[identity profile] gentiana-clusii.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"That doesn't mean it never happened. And that doesn't mean I don't feel like I could have done something, anything, to prevent it. That I should have."

"Whatever they did to me...I feel like I have no control of myself at all. Not like I thought I did." Ken finally looked up and at Omi. "Sit down, standing there won't do much good, ne?"

Luxord was walking on preverbal sunshine as he'd entered the room that morning. He had a good night, which everyone else in the room seemed to have lacked, and they gave off waves of hurt and exhaustion in their miens - particularly the Keyblade Master, who looked decidedly worse for wear. Luxord would have taken it upon himself to dishearten the boy even more so, but there was one thing about the room that the Gambler didn't care for.

Chocolate… Be damned if he had a reaction in front of the child, nor Axel, as X soon took notice. Being killed in a bad mood was one thing, but showing an uncontrollable, mundane weakness was another.

Cursed allergies.

In the meanwhile, he would sit away from the crowd and their chocolate, grin, and bask in the emotions swimming around the room. It felt so… well, he couldn't really feel, but…

Sigh.

People should be miserable more often.

"The pleasure's all mine." Xelloss took a bite of bacon, savoring it. Nice, crunchy, slightly salty. Reminded him a bit of the tater tots.

"Since you're feeling better, I hope you feel up to a brief conversation! I'm rather interested in meeting fellow magic users who have been imprisoned here. Although that may not be your primary occupation, you did seem to have a bit of a talent for it last night!" Continuing to smile as though they were sharing some obscure and personal joke, Xelloss enjoyed a bite of pancake with syrup. Thick and sweet, very enjoyable.

Phibrizzo put his hands to his face and did his best to look awed by the man. "You're plannin' on FIGHTING them, Mister? That's..."

Now, how would a little boy feel about such a declaration. Hmmm...

"...so COOL!" He giggled and looked TK over. "I thought you looked like one of those swordsmen fighter types! WOW! Have you faught lots of battles?"

"I miss coffee," Daemon sighed wistfully, staring at his glass of juice. It wasn't the same at all, and he knew what Ren meant about the sugar.

It seemed like a silly thing to miss, considering, but he missed it all the same.

"Statement: The energy weapon was a handheld device. It released one projectile upwards, which then scattered to strike within a wide radius of the hostile. The wounds did not cauterize as a normal blaster rifle or pistol wound would have." Which was more effective, really. Well-made blasters could punch holes in heavy armor, but anything organic inside didn't bleed much. A burnt hole through a meatbag generally did the trick anyway, in his experience.

"Affirmative: You have been fortunate. Your coordination is abysmal. Concession: I will admit that I was unsure of how to breathe for several minutes before the semi-unconscious directives in this meatbag body began to assert themselves. And I have found how to hack this meatbag body's neural processing unit, so that certain functions are re-prioritized for greater efficiency. Query: Have you been able to access such subsystems, or are your meatbag programs incompatible with that function? If you could, then maybe you would be able to overwrite your old locomotive protocols." It was so simple. You just went in and modified what programs were not locked. It could cause a certain amount of system instability, but he had found methods of controlling that.

Faust was interested in why this boy felt so familiar to him. He didn't know him, he was certain of it so why....

"I imagine I'm here for the exact same reasons you are." Though, he doubted this boy could actually be classed as 'insane' like he could. "Claims of mental instability, professions that your family or perhaps loved ones have sent you here to aid in your recovery."

He smiled slightly at that. As if his angel would, or could do such a thing for him.

[identity profile] traitors-smile.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Magic? He supposed kido did have that appearance. He wasn't about to dissuade man, at any rate. Especially if he had some kind of useful ability that was similar. "Nice of you t'say so. You do th' same kinda thing? Ara~ that must be excitin', ne?"

Gin only smiled right back, amused by his current company as he started eating his breakfast. He'd become a little more accustomed to the knife and fork, so the pancakes weren't as difficult as they'd been before. He didn't much care for things that were so sweet, but food was food.

[identity profile] littlestrawdoll.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ren didn't actually need or want caffeine or sugar, but as soon as Daemon said 'coffee'. "Hey, coffee, that's a common point between us. Can't live without coffee. But I guess that's against the rules, since it'd give the patients a pretty bad buzz for newcomers. That stuff inspires riots, I'm telling you."

He wondered what to ask, now that he had effectively settled himself at Daemon's table.

"Do you have to fight off a bunch of siblings for morning dibs and all that?"

[identity profile] radiant-howl.livejournal.com 2007-09-19 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah..." Darn, that meant he wouldn't be seeing any of his swords anytime soon. There had to be alternatives though. Though the Head Doctor sounded like that kind of sick bastard who just leaves people defenseless against monsters. Damn, he hated that guy just thinking about it.

Kairi's words... they actually did make some sense to Luke. He immediately thought of how Jade summoned his spear. He wasn't exactly too sure how he did it, but the gist of it was that Jade broke down it's fonons and made it a part of his own. Could Kairi (and this Sora) she mentioned do that?

"Wait, I think I know what you're talking about," he prompted her. "My friend Jade can do that with his spear. I don't know if he still has it here though..."

He would have elaborated more, but what Kairi said next seemed even more important.

"Huh?"

Valyn didn't even notice the healing at the moment. He didn't particularly want to be seen like this, least of all by Raine. But there was nothing to do for it.

"Monster," he managed, his voice a hoarse, rough whisper. "My throat." Ancestors, that burned. He fumbled with his good hand for his paper and a writing utensil. Speaking was taking too much out of him and he needed all the strength he could at the moment.

Monster, looked like my cousin. It went for my throat and tore it. My shoulder as well. Keman cauterized the wounds, stopped the bleeding, kept me alive.

It wasn't the normal neat, fluid writing the elven lord displayed on his bulletin posts. It was shaky and like a child's hand, but it got the message across.

Nurses say I tried to kill myself.
