Due to the size of the caramel apple, it was no surprise that most probably weren't finished with it as the Head Doctor's voice began broadcasting from the intercom.

"Hello, everyone, or should I say goodnight? Well, sadly, the lights are about to go out – er, right after we pick up those who are scheduled for tonight's sleep studies, of course. I hope everyone enjoyed their meals and that you all get a good night's rest. Remember, we'll be hosting even more new arrivals tomorrow, so prepare yourselves for a bright, fun day of new acquaintances and possibly even lifelong friendships!

"But look at the time! I had better cut this short, mmm? Well, good night, everyone, and I sincerely wish good dreams on each and every one of you! Good night!"

The intercom clicked off.

Crackling came on over the intercom as soon as darkness descended upon Landel's Institute. Tonight seemed relatively clear; the moon shined at three quarters and the wind was present, but gentle. Had it not been for the other dangers that lurked in the shadows, the scenery might have even seemed pleasant.

But the ominous screeching and chattering of the intercom was enough to put anyone on edge, as was the Head Doctor's chuckle as he began his more sincere announcement for the night.

"Let's hope our new Radio Man doesn't cause me to take the same measures I did last night, hmm? Or... should I call him radio boy? Still carving out a place for himself, that one, and let's only hope he doesn't end up like precious little Jill. Oh, Jill..."

Soft steps crossed a room; then, a rustle of fabric and a sharp intake of breath, far too fearful to be the Head Doctor's.

"...What are we ever going to do with you?"

The intercom dwindled to silence. The doors unlocked.

[ If you're introducing your new character during the night, you may do so whenever you wish; if they don't have a room assignment yet, please have them wake up in a random, unoccupied room consistent with their gender (compare new assignments and permanent assignments to the Landel's map) and make your character's introduction post in response to the appropriate hallway post (you'll be able to find it at the nightly links listing or in one of the recent posts to the comm). However, when you do post, please reply to this intercom post with a link to the introduction for organization's sake. ]

Sheena looked up at the intercom when it went off. So, Landel had captured Jill. Sheena felt a bit of a wish to help the woman, save her, but she didn't know where Jill was being held, what she looked like or even if she should help her. Or could. Not with the way the ninja was injured - both physical and mental. She wished she'd talked Raine into healing her as everything was so tender and the ninja didn't like stitches. Not at all. And she was worried about the scarring to her lip.

Picking up the unusual metal weapon her former roommate had, the ninja left the room to meet Aigis and hand it over. Once she'd done that... she had a decision to make.

Sheena silently slipped into the hallway at the end of the block. Taking up a spot where she could be easily seen, and the gun-like weapon she was carrying, she waited for Aigis. She wanted to get this over with so she could00

What? So she could what? Go see to her summon, the one that left her with so many stitches in her neck, left her unable to just go back to her room and sleep because of the nightmares she knew were going to come?

Maybe she should just go check on Ritsuka instead. That was safer. Far safer. But then she'd be running away again...

As she retrieved the meat tenderizer from under her mattress, Anise listened to the Head Doctor's nighttime announcements. She got suspicious any time the subject of the radio man came up, and this time was no different. It was hard to consider that this new guy might be a genuine ally when the others had led them into danger so many times before. Anise wasn't going to trust him blindly.

The sound of a gasp and the Head Doctor's final words gave Anise pause, but she knew she couldn't think too much about it right now. Whatever reaction the Head Doctor wanted out of them, she wasn't going to give it to him.

Instead, she gave her candy apple a few more nibbles, picked up her flashlight, and headed out into the dark hallway.

Scott didn't like the sound of that intercom announcement one bit. Granted, he was hard-pressed to think of one he did like. Maybe the ones that involved pancakes? ...No. No, not even those. By virtue of the man talking about them, those announcements were tainted. Those pancakes were tainted. Tainted pancakes.

Ew.

In any case, it sounded like Landel had someone holed up with him. That was definitely not good, thought Scott with a glare at the speaker in the ceiling. What exactly could he do about that, though? No one knew for sure how to get to Landel, and even if they did know, they'd probably have to battle through a ton of bosses and barriers to get to him. Now wasn't that just shitty.

"Freaking Landel cockteaser cocky cock, when I get to the final stage I'll shoryuken his ass into his balls..." Scott continued muttering in frustration to himself as he got everything together for the night. There was nothing else he could do right now. Nothing but focus on the one person he could help protect tonight, anyway.

When he was changed and geared up, Scott nodded over his shoulder to Guybrush and headed out in a hurry.

Now where had Knives said her room was? Scott reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the crumpled napkin she had written the number on at breakfast. F30. Okay. Assuming the girls' block worked the same way the guys' one did and wasn't some alternate dimensional maze that only people with boobs (twitch) would understand, Scott was pretty sure he could find the right room.

The latest intercom announcement filled Aigis with a sense of dread. Aborting her attempt at writing in her journal, Aigis stood silent for a moment then paced to the closet to retrieve her baseball bat. She would normally have offered her roommate some assistance during her first night in the institute, but Kay had already expressed during dinner that she had plans with a friend. It worked for Aigis. She had plans herself. The unhappy task of receiving one last memento from her released friend.

It shook her to the core, thinking how her friend had disappeared so suddenly. They had only just met up, and now she was already gone. It was almost too much, too powerful of an emotion for the android to fully realize.

"I wish you safety in your endeavors tonight, Kay-san," Aigis whispered solemnly. Then, grabbing up her flashlight in her free hand, Aigis moved to the door and made her way down the hall.

He hadn't expected to see a note to him from anyone other than his commanding officers. He'd caught the bulletin (from Dean, wasn't it?) addressed to him before the dinner shift. McCoy remembered him well enough. Rough looking kid, thought he could practice some medicine with nothing but a belt and dirty jacket, but generally had his heart in the right place. Now what was this about a gift basket?

He was prepared to turn down whatever it was anyhow. McCoy wasn't one to go on making a fuss. He was doing his job, and it wasn't for any reward or payment. He couldn't just ignore wounded, especially one that had partially resulted because of Spock's logic. There was only so far Spock could argue him down until he planted his feet and dragged them for all they were worth. Curiosity, however, was enough to make him consider going. He could check again with Dean about that friend of is, see how she was holding up.

A short stop wouldn't hurt too much in terms of time. They had their own assignments, but he didn't think it would take all that long. The doctor drew out first aid kit from the closet and opened it. He felt around for the partial map, and spreading it open on the bed, scanned it. It didn't take long to find Dean's room. M2 didn't look too out of the way.

The doctor packed up quickly and left.

[M11]

After dreading the arrival of night through the entire dinner shift it was almost a relief to hear Landel's self-important evening announcement; the content was somewhat unusual, certainly, though Yue knew little of the woman Jill and had just as little reason to care. Even if he had wished to focus on her predicament, however, his attention was quickly drawn to his own situation. As he'd spent the day in his false form, night meant the involuntary return to the true -- something he'd not wanted to display to anyone, much less one as unfamiliar and distant as his current roommate.

But it wasn't as though the Institute gave him anything so simple as a choice, so even as the door unlocked golden light traced an intricate circle at Yukito's feet; at the same time a glow sprang to life at his back, lifting and expanding to take the form of great wings which wrapped around him in a white-feathered cocoon. After but a moment they spread again to reveal the guardian's true form, his expression set with icy irritation. Without either word or look at his roommate, Yue took up his flashlight and turned away, moving to the door as quickly as dignity would allow. If he simply left quickly enough it would prevent any unwanted questions... for now.
