NIGHTSHIFT 26: SOCCER/RECREATIONAL FIELD

From in here.

Logan moved quickly through the door and out into the cool, fresh night. It was a little lighter out here, and he could see almost as clearly as in daytime. He took up a ready position next to the wall and scanned the field as he waited for the others to arrive. This was the first time he'd been outside of the institute since he'd arrived here. Once SubZero came through the door, he'd ask him if he actually had some sort of plan. The other man had been here longer and knew the place a little better after all; Logan had just taken the lead out of impatience more than anything else.

[Waitin' on the gang!]

[Coming out from here (http://community.livejournal.com/damned/187991.html?thread=13057111#t13057111)]

Stepping outside for the first time since being in here, Ami took a deep breath in. It was a nice night, not too cold, and it was much easier to see out here than it had been in the dark hallways inside the institute. She could make out the expansive field, where she assumed `patients' were able to exercise during the day.

Ami scanned the area as Logan did, looking for movement of any sort. If what she had heard correctly, there should be a female of some kind out here. "The head doctor mentioned an attractive female waiting in the field," she murmured. "But she might be a patient who has been brainwashed. What should we do?" Ami would not kill a patient under the control of this institute. There must be some way of converting her back, she thought. Even if we can just restrain her to prevent her from injuring anyone else.

[identity profile] moon-brained.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Usagi hadn't been outside since her first day at Landel's. It was quiet, only a few other people were out on the field this time. It wasn't cold but emptiness sent a chill down her spine, and she wrapped her arms around herself to stop from shivering.

"I could...er, never mind," Usagi sputtered to Ami, ending lamely and looking at her feet. If she had her powers she could heal a brainwashed person, but in her current state she was next to useless. The only thing she was capable of was praying that they were lucky tonight.

Ah, fresh air~ With cool grass beneath her slippers, Rena walked onto the field with a smile and a sigh. No quality of food or games could quite compare to the gentle breeze caressing her cheeks. Of course, if the girl had heard the warnings of the intercom instead of sleeping, she might not have been so keen on the breeze.

It looked to be a decent night outside of the building; the weather was fair, at least. It also seemed as though others had taken to the field as well, from the shadows and the whispers some ways away. Moonlight and flashlight revealed them to be other patients (at least, Rena hoped).

She turned to Sora, whom the girl assumed was just behind, and indicated toward one corner of the field. "Shall we get going, shall we?"

[personal profile] lighthearted 2007-08-27 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
That was too bad. It looked like some people had made it out onto the field before them. A big group of... five, was it? Sora peered through the haze of the dark night as he tried to count.

Maybe they were just taking a look around instead of heading specifically for the shed? Then again, there wasn't much of a reason to come out onto the field except to go to the shed, but maybe they didn't know that. Even though Sora knew that all of the patients should be working together, a part of him felt competitive about this. They needed to get to the shed before them!

He nodded to Rena. "Yeah, it's that way." It looked she had spotted it already, probably because it was the only structure on the field. He walked toward the shed, trying not to think about the way his slippers squished in the damp grass.

Soon enough Naoya found himself stumbling out onto the field he also recognized from the night before. There were other people outside, only this time there was no one fighting though that did little to ease Naoya's mind. The feeling of despair at least wasn't so horrible out here, but even there there was the nagging feeling in the back of his mind telling him that something was wrong.

Naoya found himself fervently wishing, despite his earlier thoughts of how selfish it was, that his brother was here. He'd know what to do...

[identity profile] damned-monsters.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Panicked, prone, and perfect. Naoya's stumbling attracted a creature of the less friendly sort, a cuddly animal warped into something much more sinister by whatever it was that controlled the night. A hulking body approach, easily two hundred pounds and more, deep chattering coming from its throat.

Anyone would be hard pressed to recognize the massive thing before them as a squirrel, often disease ridden, but otherwise harmless unless it was trapped.

But not this thing, no. This one was hungry, and tiny acorns just wouldn't do. The bumbling patient was much better to feed on, nice and big and juicy, with bones that would crunch in it's teeth.

It moved fast, too fast for it's size, jaws open and ready to bite. It came at Naoya, aiming for the man's body, seeking to tackle and top, to pin it's prey beneath it.

Well, this was new. That was good, he was exploring. The more he knew, the better it would be.

A large, open, outside area. Had he been here before? ZEX traced the beginnings of a large area on his rudimentary map, then stalled at the edges. He didn't know how far this field progressed after all...he should check that first.

ZEX kept a hand on the wall, to keep himself steady and grounded in terms of location in the darkness, and began walking around the field's perimeter. Another gap in his tiny map filled, that was something. He marked out "field" in clumsy letters in the blank area and kept going.

Ed pushed open the door to the recreational field and stepped outside, the cool night air brushing over him, raising goosebumps on his flesh arm. He realised instantly that something was wrong. Another fight here with a brainwashed patient. The intercom had said as much, but at least out here he had the advantage of more space to move in.

He recognised a couple of the people involved in the fight, but he had things to do, places to go and with so many people, he couldn't imagine another one would be an advantage. Would just get in the way. Instead, he crept along the edge of the field, keeping himself pressed against the wall until he reached a part where thick vines curled over the stone. The corner would be easier to climb, but it also meant he'd have more trouble jumping down if he got attacked. He just hoped the vines would hold his weight, automail and all.

[identity profile] lost-metal.livejournal.com 2007-09-05 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
He grabbed onto the highest vines that he could reach and started to pull himself up. Luckily, some of them were fairly thick and served well as footholds and the wall beneath was rough enough to be of some help, the vines having worn smooth grooves into the stone.

He nearly slipped and fell back once when one of the vines snapped beneath his hand, leaving him hanging, but he managed to catch himself and pull himself up the last few feet to the top where he sat, panting for a few moments, looking at the fight with curiosity.

The soccer field. Hakkai hadn't been out there since the encounter with the dogs, but it seemed the field wasn't going to be any less busy tonight. He stopped just outside the door, eyebrows raised as he arrived just in time to see a rain of some sort of energy arrows, apparently spawned by a young girl with a bow.

"Well. This is certainly an unexpected development."

Recluse's eyes closed to slits as he stepped out onto the field: he was much more sensitive to light than usual, with the combined acclimation to the dark hallways and the blood red glow of his eyes, brought forth by his anger. The light of the night sky was made even more unbearable by the energy attacks that some brainwashed patient was using on another group.

He kept close to the wall of the facility, heading for the wall that separated the rec field from the courtyard. It looked low enough to climb without difficulty, and there were some clinging vines that would aid any attempt to do so.

Even after the brief stop, Kimbley found he had a hard time keeping up with the clearly enraged Richter. Finally, though, he caught up with the man at the entrance to the recreation field, glancing out over it and raising his eyebrows at the gigantic fight ensuing. Someone had their powers back, it looked like.

Maybe he could ...

Idly following Richter, Kimbley noted the vines growing off the sides of the walls. Was the plan to climb them? Weren't there easier ways to get through the wall? Like, say, blowing straight through it? (Or going around it? But that wasn't worth the time.)

Signum arrived in time to see the barrage of magical arrows rain down on the crowd of combatants gathered in the recreational field, and her eyes focused on the girl, barely visible between her attackers and victims, holding a bow.

"Mage." She warned the others, waiting for Momo's instruction. As usual she was eager to fight, but in this case there was good reason not to. For one thing, if the girl was a match for all those already gathered around her, she was more than likely a match for them, as well.

Of course, as no matter how stony an impression she gave, she was not so coldly logical. Many combatants meant many potential victims, and even from here it was clear that many were children... so there was a clear note of stress in her voice when she prompted Momo. "Shall we assist them?"

[identity profile] hajike-tobiume.livejournal.com 2007-09-02 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hold your position," Momo said, shooting Hokuto a look to make sure the girl stayed right where she was. The shinigami drew up next to Signum to get a better look past the taller woman and take in the scene laid before them.

Her first thought as the last of the bright arrows disappeared was that there was a Quincy about, but her eyes widened a little seeing the girl with the bow in the middle of the field. "MOMO-chan," she said with a little disbelief. She knew the special counseling patients could be anyone, but she hadn't thought the doctor would be able to take someone as sweet as MOMO and turn her against the rest. Gin made sense, MOMO did not.

The shinigami narrowed her eyes and brought the spirit threads of all of those in the field engaging the girl as well as the archer herself into few. Her eyes shifted from one to another as blood started to slowly drip from her nose and a slight headache developed. "She's a construct," Momo said with slight amazement. Now this was a first. Her eyes shifted across the others. "So is another," she said as she saw HK. "The rest are human." Well, mostly human. She wasn't completely sure about the one, but she didn't have time for an in depth analysis.

She released her focus, the threads fading out of sight. Her mind quickly turned over the possibilities. Since the girl was a construct of some sort, did she feel pain? Did she have limitations, even unreleased from the institute's constraints? There already was a large group combating her. Would they be effective?

And then there was the fact that four of the combatants were children. Two seemed close to Hokuto's age and the other two... Momo's eyes hardened some as she realized one of the children was Sora. She couldn't just leave him and the girl he was covering to the mercy of the overpowered MOMO.

And then there was the fact that despite looking experienced with combat, the three adult men seemed to have no sense of battle tactics. "They're all just throwing themselves at her," she said in quiet disbelief. She could understand it of the teenagers, but the two taller men?

"There are too many attacking her at once," she said calmly, having come to a decision. "Should we get directly involved with the way they are, we will not be effective." She could smell fresh blood on the air. "There are injured among them. We will move closer to the wall and take up a defensible position and act in reserve for them. If their first wave of attack fails, I will immobilize the girl and allow them to overpower her."

She looked at both females. "I will need both of your support should I have to. Especially if this group proves they need a real warrior to knock out the girl." Momo wasn't entirely sure she'd be able to contain the unreleased strength of the realian. "Then we will offer first aid and healing as needed."

"Questions or objections?" Not that they had much time for either. At this point, the shinigami was refusing to let herself think of that girl in the field, their enemy, as MOMO. "If not, we move."

Stepping out into the familiarity of the recreational field, Cloud was reminded of Barret’s words of traveling with someone else. It appeared that his old habits were difficult to break, since he was traveling alone and possibly rather vulnerable. He ignored the pull to go back inside and find one of his allies to move around with, confident enough in his skills to keep him alive.

He noted the fight that was apparently going on and was very careful to keep himself to the shadows as he moved around the entirety of the field. He really had to wonder what the point of being in a place and not working together in order to escape. Why was everyone so violent and intent on killing each other? Maybe there was something in the water.

Wanting nothing to do with a battle just yet, he simply went about exploring his surroundings. The more familiar he was, the better he would be. The field was pretty simple though, and he quickly was certain he knew everything here.

He paused though at the sight of a far off building that looked very similar to the gardening shed he had visited the night before. It drew his attention, and he quietly moved over in that direction to find it locked. He used the hilt of the blade he was carrying to crack it, careful not to cause any more property damage than was necessary.

Once outside, Kairi finally spoke to Axel, her eyes still narrowed in that pointed glare. “What are you trying to get at? If you’re getting at what I think you’re getting at, I’m going to kick you in the shin.” Giving his hand a tight squeeze as if it were a threat, she turned her gaze away from the taller man to look at the sky, all the faux anger she had been pretending to show melting away as a bright smile crossed her lips.

The sky! Taking a deep breath, Kairi released it in a slow sigh, tilting her head up to look up. “Ah, it’s so nice to be outside!”

The redhead quickly held his hands up in defense, trying to look as innocent as a Nobody could muster.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Yet as they stepped out, Axel found himself covering her mouth carefully with his hand, pressing a finger up to his lips as if motioning her to keep quiet. The breeze certainly felt nice, and it looked as if they caught it pretty close to the full moon, but he knew of the possible dangers that dwelled nearby.

"As much as I like to stay and count the stars," Axel started in a hushed voice. "It'd probably be best if we get out of here as fast as we can."

Sai paused as he stepped out onto the field, holding the door with one hand still and not going much further until he'd assessed the situation. The field was, or had been, a battlefield. There were obvious signs of destruction and a couple other groups scattered about. He could see no main antagonist yet, though there was a group huddled further out where it was too dark for him to see.

"Careful," he warned the others behind him.

[Ack, was it my turn all this time? *brain farts*]

And it was back on that strange field that Clark had seen briefly his first night here. Judging by what he could see and Sai's warning, it looked like this place was more often than not a hot spot for trouble. Clark stopped behind Sai. He'd heard stories about the brainwashed patients, but hadn't seen one yet. Was this an example of one? Glancing at his companions, it seemed a better idea to stay where he was than move out to investigate.

Usagi nodded to Ami and watched her friend take off. With her uninjured arm she woozily dragged herself into a sitting position. From there she could see Ami was correct, the strange girl had been knocked out, but there was still tension in the air. The last thing they needed was another fight.

Usagi raised her arm to shield her eyes from the bright light as one of the new women turned on her flashlight. "I'm Tsukino Usagi," she introduced herself, trying to get her eyes to focus on Momo. Another girl knelt down beside her. "Hokuto!" Usagi greeted informally and with as much enthusiasm as she could muster.

"I caught an arrow and some lightning... I guess I'm not so good at dodging," Usagi replied with a not-quite-all-there giggle. She hadn't gotten a chance to inspect the wounds yet. The burn was on her right arm, right below the arrow wound on her shoulder, the blood stain had expanded since she last looked. The second burn was on her right leg, she wasn't sure how that would affect her walking.

"But you're hurt too..." she observed when she looked at Momo, noticing the woman was also drenched in what was probably her own blood.

[identity profile] hajike-tobiume.livejournal.com 2007-09-11 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Momo glanced up at Hokuto as the girl addressed her questioningly and she blinked. Less than a heartbeat later and any sense of fear suddenly disappeared. She had something to focus on and Hokuto didn't need to know anything was wrong with her commanding officer.

Momo shielded the flashlight with her hand a moment and then re secured the cloth that muted the light. She used the light to further examine the blonde's wounds. The shinigami put a hand gently on Usagi's shoulder to comfort her as well as examine the arrow wound further.

"Do not worry about me, Tsukino-san," Momo replied with an equally gentle smile. "My injuries are inconsequential in comparison." Not exactly the truth, depending on how you viewed the them. Unlike Usagi's, Momo's couldn't be healed by the shinigami, nor anyone else as far as she knew. The joys of spiritual backlash.

"Hokuto-chan, please watch Tsukino-san's friend and keep an eye on Signum-kun," she said to her teammate. She had no worries about Signum, really, but she'd prefer someone be paying some attention to what the knight was up to while Momo was casting her healing spell. Plus it might keep Hokuto from seeing her nose bleed, as it inevitably will.

Momo focused her attention completely on Usagi, one hand still on her shoulder and she lightly placed her other hand on the girl's leg. "Try to relax and focus on Sumeragi-san, please," she said giving the blonde a smile. "It will make things easier while I heal you if you are focused on something familiar."

Closing her eyes and bowing her head, Momo quietly recited the incantation for the healing kidou. She creased her brow hard in concentration as she once again accessed her reiatsu. It hurt, gods it hurt, but she wasn't going to let healing bother her. Blood dripped freely from both nostrils onto the grass as the soft pink light from the shinigami's healing spell spread out across Usagi's shoulder and leg.

The light was brighter at Usagi's shoulder as Momo determined that as the worse injury. The leg would be fine, even with the burn, but Momo was concerned about any internal damages between the two burns as lightning tended to connect inside as well as passing through.

Almost done.

Maybe it was because the blood loss was making it hard to focus, but even after searching the field, there was no sign of his partner for the night. Where had she gone off to...? She didn't seem like the sort to run away, but if she had gotten hurt, she wouldn't have gotten very far, either. Then again, the field was pretty big, and with his injuries, Sora wasn't moving very fast.

He decided that she might have decided to take the initiative and head for the shed on her own, while the rest of them were distracted by the fight, but on his way to the far end of the field, he was forced to sit down again. He could barely feel his leg at all anymore, and his back was soaked with blood - it had stuck to his shirt, even.

Maybe he would get lucky. Maybe she would find him. Right now, all he really wanted to do was rest, and yet he knew there was a mission to be done. His body just refused to move anymore.

With all of that exploring of the blocks, Guy had been left with a good idea of how to get from place to place, so he didn't hesitate in leading them up the halls and then outdoors.

The field itself was pretty crowded, surprisingly. Was everyone that eager to get to the shed with those bats and helmets, or was there some other reason? As he moved across the grass, he noticed that some of it seemed to be stained with blood. He paused for a moment, but didn't react too strongly. There had been quite the fight here, though it seemed to have ended a while ago.

As far as the injured, he tried not to worry about it. He wasn't a Seventh Fonist - there wouldn't be anything he could do to help, other than basic First Aid. In any case, Jade wouldn't want to get distracted by that sort of thing, most likely.

"The shed is at the other end of the field over there," he said as he walked, pointing it out.

Jade followed Guy in silence, his body reacting on its own while he kept himself mentally occupied. It was only until they reached outside did the Colonel show some signs of life, letting his eyes wander along in the darkness. The commotion that was stirring all throughout the field was to be expected, but unlike his comrade Jade took the time to examine the imperfections of the torn battlefield.

There were patches of grass uprooted with stains of blood dotting the area that had been most stressed, and he slowly knelt down to run his hand along the surface. This continued for a minute before the man was finally satisfied, standing up and gave a long, drawn out sigh.

"It's a shame that you're as frail as a maiden, Guy. Otherwise I would have expected you to carry me there." Jade commented with a laugh.
