( From here. )
God, she was tired.
She had long since blocked out Edward's voice in her head, and instead made her way upstairs. A few voices were heard to her right, yet she ignored them and looked around, flashing her flashlight wherever she was looking.
She had yet to see a monster. Maybe Haruhi had been lying? Who knew, really? Bella could tell that something was wrong with the girl anyway, so it only made sense.

She had yet to see a monster. Maybe Haruhi had been lying? Who knew, really? Bella could tell that something was wrong with the girl anyway, so it only made sense.

When suddenly she sneezed.
It had been so sudden she practically hadn't seen it coming. Dropping the flashlight, she rubbed at her nose, muttering to herself before picking it back up.

It was about damn time.
With a quick gnashing of teeth, the dead rodent disappeared from Agni's jaws as he set his eyes on new, fresh, and much larger prey. He gave a bellowing laugh while the quiet head grinned a crocodile's smile at the girl, very alone and smelling very sweet.
Rather, particularly sweet.
Three long, white blades flicked out of each of the demon's hands as he slowly advanced towards the girl, still grinning a particularly nasty smile.

But then she remembered that she was Bella Swan; monster extraordinaire.
“Of course.”
She stood back up slowly having picked up her flashlight, taking a step back from the freaky red creature in front of her with great ease. She still remembered self defense – if anything, she could punch it in the nose and –
The creature didn’t even have a goddamned nose.
Bella sighed. “You have GOT to be kidding me.”

But then again, at this point, his mind was far beyond simple enjoyment. Not with his body racked by an abysmal hunger; one that made feral growls slip from his throats unbidden. His talons clicked together with anticipation. The monster had stopped several feet from the girl, as if he had thought again whether the devouring of her young, sweet flesh would be so worth it after all.
Without warning he shot forward, much faster than his size would ever give evidence to, one pair of jaws clamping down on to the girl's arm while his claws raked along his face and her sides; anything, anything to spill as much blood as he could at once. There was a ticking reminder in the back of his skull, but it was ignored for the fevor that he poured into the consumption of his first real meal.

So, thinking quickly, she began to kick the creature in the knee, the leg, anywhere that she thought he might react to.
Edward was so not going to be happy about this.

[coming to the not-so rescue from down here]
Coming out onto the landing of the second floor, uncaring of whether the other girl was still following him or moving on, Aidou saw the problem immediately. Rather, he smelled the problem.
What he saw was the hulking form of Agni gnawing on a nondescript girl who had passed him by on the stairs - the not-Yuki of varying degree. His first thought was: Great, she's going to attract every creature in the building to this very area, just great, despite himself being much the same. He couldn't deny that blood was more potent than Renji's or River's combined, and that he was very much feeling the unhappy emptiness of his stomach.
But when it came to a human girl spilling her stupid blood everywhere and potentially ruining his plans, he had to pull the plug on the situation. That, or toss her over the balcony. The smell would linger up here, but at least she'd be bleeding somewhere else.

Instead of going in for another bite, the demon turned around to watch the other figure entering his hallway. Despite himself, he gave a gurgling laugh before swallowing the mouthful of blood and meat. Even if it was prey not as small and helpless as the girl, it was still not even comparable to the god. Pity.
Losing interest in Bella, Agni moved a step away from her, one head gnashing red-stained teeth while the other's maw opened, a light beginning to glow within, lighting the dark red flesh of his mouth. The light began to grow and surge, wisps of flame emitting themselves and casting an orange glow on the beast's bulk. The ball of fire easily filled his mouth in seconds; Agni wasted no time in hurtling the minature inferno towards Aidou, perhaps ready for a slightly warmer meal.

The last meters around the railed area had been taken in a hurried near running, Aya slowed his steps when he reached another dark hallway and allowed himself to lean against the wall to breathe some calmness into himself.
The unreasonable fear and sense of danger passed eventually enough for him to move again. He still clutched the baseball bat in his hands so tightly it was starting to feel like an extension of his numb fingers rather than a independent piece of material.
The first door was locked, the two following opening into bathrooms, which he disregarded with one glance and moved on. The last door was on the end of the hallway and opened to a large patio. He pulled his head back inside and started to pull his legs back towards the direction where he had came from. He now had a good overlook on the whole building, only few places in the first floor he had to check still...

When they reached the second floor, Jean pulled out her map. "Those, over there, are the disciplinary therapy rooms," she said. "We will start here for now."

Something was happening. He could hear noise. Screeching. A very... animalistic cry. The sound of one vaguely familiar voice, yelling. What was going on up here?
When they were close enough to see the creature, it felt as if Gremio's heart had stopped in his chest. It wasn't as if he'd never seen a monster before--they were a common enough sight in his own world. But this was the first one he'd seen here. This... this was what everyone had been talking about, then? So there really were monsters in this place. For a while, Gremio had been wondering if that part had been an exaggeration.
His first inclination would've been to run. He had no weapon, so charging in recklessly would've been foolish and most likely fatal. Still, it didn't seem like they'd be getting through this hallway any other way. Whatever the case it... didn't look good either way, if the two people already retreating were any indication. ... Gods, what in the hell had happened to that one man's arm?!
And then there was the one he was carrying along. Was she... was she even alive? Gremio squinted in the darkness of the room, looking for any signs of life.
... Wait a minute, wasn't that...?
"... Miss Suzumiya?!"
What in the hell had happened to her? What was she even doing, getting caught up in all of this?
He looked between the two of them to the creature further on down the hall. Whatever it was, it would surely give chase. And if it caught up to them, in that kind of state...
Gremio rushed past Jean and Leon, calling back to them over his shoulder. "I'm sorry!" he said. "I don't think there's any getting out of this one!" He'd see to Haruhi and the other man's injuries once they were all out of harm's way. Right now, the only thing they could probably do was cover their escape.

Haruhi could only hope they found something alive, or else this whole night would be a waste of time! Last night had been bad enough.
She emerged from the stairs triumphantly and panned around to get her bearings. Oh, she had been here before! She definitely remembered it!
"I've been this way," she said, pointing to the hallway straight ahead, "There's a dining room in the back there, and then a kitchen beyond it. I'm not sure what's in the other rooms though."
Other than finding a monster, Haruhi didn't really care where they went.

"You have not seen any laboratories?" The Pokémon could only assume so, but it was important that he made sure of it. He did not want to miss an important place simply because the human girl may have left it out.

It was almost a shame that Agni had lost all interest in the fight. Now was the time to purely follow his instincts - and to sate what hunger he could. It was a bottomless, empty hunger, but it felt so natural to rip into the flesh of prey...
Ignoring the one, Agni rumbled towards the lonely pair that had just entered behind him, taking no step to be silent and stealthy. He rushed towards them like a freight train, arms hanging low enough for the claws to drag across the floor. The male - the male was bigger, and closer, and would be the first to feel Agni's jaws. Yards away from Mewtwo he leapt, both sets of teeth open and aimed for the man's pale throat.

Yet even in this time of danger, Mewtwo's powers remained suppressed; though he attempted to call up a barrier, the remaining power he had was not nearly enough; in fact, he had to stop and throw up his arm to protect himself while jumping back.
He did not move fast enough, as the creature's teeth pierced through his skin, making jagged cuts through the flimsy cloth and skin. Mewtwo hissed out in pain, not used to being injured so easily; this human body was worthless.
Regardless, he could not die, not with the human girl still in danger. He threw out his good arm to bar the way.
"Go!" He commanded her. There was precious little time for a counterattack, so Mewtwo did the only thing he could do: throw the flashlight at the creature with as much strength as his bloody arm could muster.
Throwing objects at monsters. How low the mighty had fallen.

But monsters weren't cute, fluffy creatures as she could soon tell by the way he was going for Mewtwo's throat. "Watch out!" she shouted. That was the only thing she could do in that instance. The monster had appeared too quickly.
This was definitely bigger than the small lizard she had evaded to get the knife. Oh, the knife! She had completely forgotten about it! With shaking fingers she pulled it from the rubber band attaching it to her flashlight. What, shaking? No way was she scared!
She held the knife in front of her, hoping it would do some good in this instance. Too bad it was still only a kitchen knife, however sharp it was.
"I'm not leaving!" She wasn't about to leave someone to die, and she especially didn't want to run away from her first real monster attack.

Agni then abruptly switched his attention as the girl said "I'm not leaving!" Surely the god was going to make sure she regret those words - he stalked towards her, giving an almost too human laugh at her pitiful weapon; one that could barely harm even the rats around here. Had the god been low enough to have a tail, he would have been waving it in excitement. So many meals, and all gathered together! The god barely had to lift a finger. Everything was so small and powerless; the weaklings were begging to be devoured. Eat, or be eaten.
Cutting his chuckles short, he lunged towards Haruhi with one hand swiping at her like a cat, the claws extended with the residue of his paralyzing poison still clinging to them.

The arm holding the knife shook even more now as the monster advanced. A shiver went down her spine as the thing laughed. It sounded wrong. Just wrong! She contemplated running for a second, but by then it was already too late.
She didn't even have time to make an attempt at piercing him with the knife. As his claws swept toward her she began falling back, a half-hearted attempt to avoid the attack, but the claws made contact anyway. She cried out as they ripped through the thin material of her uniform, scraping across her side and one arm. Altogether it wasn't the worst wound (Mewtwo's bite seemed awful by comparison) but then something strange happened.
Her mind was screaming at her to get up. Get up right now and run or do something! But her body remained crumpled on the ground where she had fallen.
Damn it, she could't move at all.

This hallway was much darker than the last - at least it was as Javert entered it. In seconds, though, the area up ahead was lit by what looked like balls of flame. There were more patients down there, fighting something else, and it took an immense amount of effort on Javert's part to restrain himself from taking several steps back.
He gripped the aluminum bat tighter, feeling as if they'd jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.

He tried to see as much as he could see of the hall ahead with the flashlight--the shapes ahead seemed indistinct and monstrous. He looked between his companions. Javert seemed determined, though Alec still seemed quietly angry as he had ever since they'd retreated from the Sun Room.
He got a better grip on his stick and decided he wouldn't be the one to run or to suggest running. If they wanted to stay and try to fight past this one, he would stay with them. They'd been turned back too often tonight.
no subject
Maybe it was all a British trick, after all, and the ghosts and other multifarious monsters just special effects. He dismissed the thought almost as soon as it flashed through his head. If they'd go to those lengths just to traumatize him and get him to reveal information, he was a Japanese peace lily.
"So," he said, trying to keep his whisper level and very, very quiet. "Fight or flight, gentlemen?"
no subject
Still, the - thing - whatever it was - that was attacking the other patients seemed well and truly distracted. Appearances could be deceiving, but...
They couldn't keep running away.
"Let's try moving past," he said quietly. "If the group ahead requires assistance, we may be able to help. Hopefully, it won't come to that."
no subject
But even as he questioned, his voice as low-pitched as theirs, he moved up beside Javert. Never let it be said that Armand St. Just was a coward, no matter how much his insides felt like water. He'd chosen his partners for the night, and he would stick by them.
