NIghtshift 26: 2nd Floor Hallway near Railed Area

[From here.]

It was around that time when Jade's pace slowed considerably, almost to that of a snail's. Even though it involved a woman of some sort, he was certain that he'd have more than enough time to dwell between the halls while still making it back before his Majesty reached his own destination. He walked the halls with more ease than he held moments before, swinging his fontech back and forth as he wandered along.

The rail caught his attention almost instantly, and Jade found himself looking over the edge in practically no time. Even at this height he was able to make out the shapes of chairs and couches that lined the Sun Room's floor. This area seemed to awaken some nostalgia inside him, reminding him of the very bridge that overlooked the first floor of the Cathedral back in Daath. If he remembered correctly, it was where Luke came to him after seeking whatever moral support he could squeeze out of his allies. Life was more hectic back then, and they were facing dilemmas that no person could keep to their own.

Jade chuckled at those memories, letting himself relax in the darkness.

Kasady'd been about to press the advantage, free arm already forming into their preferred axe, when Brock lunged at him, fangs snapping.

The serial killer hissed, feeling the teeth sink into his upper arm. They couldn't cover the area in time - not when the alien was trying to hold as much as it could around his eyes, mouth and arms. Hot blood, specked with black and bright red was suddenly flowing and staining their shirt.

It was more on instinct, but one of Kasady's claws curled into a fist that promptly went hurtling towards Venom's chest, as hard as they could.

The worst part was that instead of pain, there was only a spreading numbness from his chest. Their fangs were ripped free from their grip on Kasady's arm as they took the punch full in the chest. There was a crack behind them and for a fevered moment, Brock was certain it was his back this time.

The railing finally broke, and gave out under him. Brock was thrown back into empty air, still snarling. He was free-falling for what would only be a few seconds before he hit the next floor under, and both of them knew it even as they tried to battle the pain and the infuriating fact that they had failed. The symbiote, amazingly enough, was able to spit and hiss in rage in his mind even as it tried to brace them for the inevitable impact.

Venom actually managed to take a good chunk of their arm, and that was the very first thing that registered, before they realized that Brock was falling backwards.

Kasady rushed forward, stopping short of falling himself, a claw digging into the broken railing as they looked down. The serial killer had hit him harder than he'd originally intended, and while it meant that they couldn't continue their fight (dissappointing!), they would get the added bonus of watching the Old Timer just drop in on the fray below.

Their stomach hurt like hell - the wounds were going to be pretty nasty, but they didn't think Kasady would die off it - but they wouldn't miss this for the world!
