Day 26 Nightshift: Hallway Outside of F & M Blocks

[[ from here. ]]

Just a bit further now, just a bit further into the woods before the wolf would pounce on her. At least he wouldn't be wearing her grandmother's clothes this time. That ruse was always so irritating, not to mention amateur of a skilled assassin.

But wolves had never been proper assassins anyway. The steel blade was pointed and flew.

"Fox, I can't find her mind. And I know there's a hell of a lot of interference tonight, but I couldn't find her in my room. When she would have been well within range. I don't know what else to tell you." Lyta threw up her hands. Sure, she felt for him, but she couldn't find the girl. And if she couldn't find her, chances were she wasn't there anymore.

Or hadn't been at all, and Fox had seen some sort of mirage created by the asylum. If they could mute telepathic powers, they could probably mimic them. And making someone think they're seeing and feeling something was pretty damn easy.

"But fine, come on. We've got to find a way into the basement."

"If they turned her into a monster I doubt she's in the female patient block. And they could have simply put psychic blocking nano-machines in her head," Still, he couldn't just run around looking for her. That would drive him insane, and he knew it.

"Any ideas where to look?" Fox ignored the look Envy was giving him. It wasn't worth acknowledging.

"First step to getting somewhere is not standing in place," Envy said snidely, beginning in the direction Lyta had been guiding them. He was mentally tracing the details of where he'd been in the building; had been wandering off and getting excuses to walk down hallways for the past several days and had done a rather acute job at keeping track of what entrances and corridors lie where.

Lyta said nothing in response to Fox. She'd been there a good two weeks now and she hadn't heard of anyone actually being turned into a monster. It was a rumor, something people assumed was going on. And no patient was telepathically blocked - the staff were, but they were blank spots on her radar. She could still tell where they were, by their lack of sound.

But emotions made people irrational. If he hadn't felt so closed off, she would sent a touch of warmth and calmness to him.

"I know where the stairs leading up are," Lyta muttered, glancing along the hallway. "I'd say logically that stairs down shouldn't be too far..."

"If they want easy access to the basement it would make sense," Fox doubted it would be that easy, but it was always possible.

If they wanted to make it difficult for patients to move around to certain areas they would place access points differently. All of the stairs he had found so far leading up were on the front part of the building, creating choke points on the second floor to access certain areas. Not many of them, it wasn't a maze up there or easily defensible, but there weren't many options when heading for a particular destination.

"So, what are we waiting for?" He could already tell extra weight was slowing them down. Pulling from opposite directions was not good for group dynamics. That was what got Greed kicked out.

"We're not waiting for anything."

Lyta could tell Envy wasn't too happy about the arrangements. She'd gotten the impression he didn't like working with more than one other person. Or maybe he just didn't like Fox, she didn't know. She didn't care. As long as they didn't cause problems with one another.

"Come on."

Striding off quickly, the stocky red-head led the way down to the stairs.
