Day 26 Nightshift: F11-20 Hallway

Momo had once again thoroughly cleaned her katana and was set for the night mission when the intercom clicked on. She listened to the announcement and sighed. So this was what Hitsugaya had meant by Special Counseling. One of the patients turned temporary enemy for the night was right in in the way of her mission and this time she had a young girl with her and Signum. She sighed again and slid the cymbal into the back of her pants and her katana into the sheet-belt at her side. She was even happier that she'd come across Kimbley this morning than she'd been earlier. She was going to need Signum properly equipped.

Stepping out into the hallway, Momo put her back to the wall after checking the small bit of the hall to the left before the wall. Sumeragi-san and Signum will hopefully be moving rapidly. They needed to move.

((Waiting for Waka))

Amaterasu, the great goddess and mother of all, was suffering from a malady which she had often fallen prey to.

This malady was 'confusion.' While Amaterasu was baffled a fair number of times, confusion and doubt was not a part of her in normal circumstances. Even when the way was unclear, Amaterasu had proceeded boldly into the unknown, and come out the other side shining as always.

Yet now she waited outside her door, her porcelain-fine brow wrinkled in thought, and her heart torn with doubt. It wasn't a shape to see a true goddess in, and yet Amaterasu was uncertain. Had she the proper body, she would have been whining and curled up to think the better. But if she had the proper body, she would not have been so apprehensive. Ah, what was a goddess to do?

"Bonsoir, ma chèrie!"

As was often the case, Waka had impeccable timing. Whenever Amaterasu was feeling adrift and lost, he always seemed to show up and give her a hint - at the very least - as to how she should proceed. Apparently, no matter what else Landel's might change, that remained true.

The prophet sauntered up to the goddess, his spirits evidently undampened by the darkness and danger of nightshift. As a member of the Lunar Tribe, of course, he was accustomed to the night - and Amaterasu, as a sun goddess, needed all the warmth and cheer he could provide her with in the darkness.

It was said that when the sun set the moon arose; when Amaterasu was weakened by doubt, Waka was there to reflect her light until once more she was back to her full glory.

As soon as those unfamiliar words were said by a very familiar voice, the great goddess perked up her ears and a smile spread itself across her fair features; somehow, in her heart of hearts, she'd hoped that Waka would come to answer her bafflement. And here he was, as she'd hoped.

Really, how could she have doubted him.

"Waka!" Her voice rang out as clear as ever, and she bounded to him until they were close together, she taking comfort in the presence of the prophet. After all, this was not the first time Waka had directed her path. "You're here!"

"Did you think I wouldn't be?" Once again Waka found himself patting her on the head; she'd pranced over to him every inch the delighted dog fawning over a beloved friend, and he couldn't help responding to her in kind. "I am your guide; we both know you'd be lost without me." He was smiling as he spoke; actually, he had faith that Amaterasu could manage without him just fine, but there was no reason she would ever have to.

"And on that subject..." He smiled broadly at her. "I have a prophecy for you!" Well, less of an actual prophecy and more directions to where she could do some good and meet up with some other deities, but...

[identity profile] divineglutton.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
For Amaterasu was in every inch and in every actuality what Waka saw; delighted over a beloved friend, and moreso with every word Waka spoke.

She beamed as Waka patted her on the head, remembering all of those times when the prophet had kept distance between them, never quite bringing himself to her level. Up until that strange tango... but twice now he had petted her, and a part of Amaterasu wondered at this. Was the outward shape really that much of a change? Or was it the place that had changed, and with it some of the unspoken rules between them? After a moment's pause, she admitted, "I wouldn't be lost, but I'd be without direction." Which was an important distinction for her; for without direction, she would have fought as bravely against Orochi, yet with vastly a different outcome. And without direction, she might have found the way to the heavens, but by then it would have been too late.

The rules between them were important, unspoken as they were, and Amaterasu trusted in most of them. Not the ones about their conduct; for she wished that Waka would, perhaps, at least gain a little humility in his conduct, and find that humanity wasn't something to remain aloof from. But the important ones, the ones that existed for time out of mind, those she put her faith in. If Waka had direction, she would follow; he guided, and she accomplished. And no matter what state she was in, so long as Waka drew breath, he'd never forsake her or her sacred duty.

One rule was that of expediency; never had Waka stayed with her for long, and for the entirety of her journey across Nippon, the time spent together totaled to a sliver of even a mortal's lifetime. It was a necessity; she knew that now. Had she relied on Waka's strength, she would never have become strong on her own. Besides, he had been forced to do many things on his own while she sought out the brush techniques and the Divine Instruments.

Yet here that rule seemed to have changed... and in the goddess's heart, she felt this to be much better than the alternative. Hadn't Waka promised to come with her to the Celestial Plain? Hadn't the rules begun to change anyway? So perhaps fate was moving on, even despite all of the changes. Yet the goddess had to stop that thought before it progressed; what if fate was grinding on to an inevitable conclusion? Her heart nearly broke at the thought of losing Waka again. Especially here, when so many were obviously praying for salvation and she could not yet provide it.

Therefore, shaking off those thoughts before they could even show on her face, she looked up at him. "A prophesy? I hope it's a good one." And while she said it with a smile, inwardly she was worried that it would somehow involve a lot of water.

"Not really," Waka was forced to admit. "It's hardly a prophecy at all, as a matter of fact...I just happen to know where you can meet up with Byakko and Kurikara."

Waka, too, was aware that at some point, for some reason, their relationship had changed slightly. Perhaps it was because there was really no way for him to put much distance between them here...and perhaps it was because that there was no reason he should do so, when she was weakened and needed his assistance and support as much as she ever had, if not more. Perhaps it was because she had finally remembered him and their friendship, and seemed to desire his company that much more because of it. Perhaps it was because Issun wasn't around to be a constant annoyance. Whatever the case, if he'd known the lines along which Amaterasu's thoughts were running, he would have agreed; this way seemed better.

In a way, Amaterasu was almost disappointed.

Waka had almost always spoken in cryptic- and half-baked- prophesies, putting things in strange ways that Amaterasu didn't understand until after the events had come to pass. Indeed, the number of times they'd had a plain conversation in Nippon could have been counted on one paw.

In all actuality it meant that their relationship was changing. But, Amaterasu decided to ponder that later, when there was time for thought. For now she wanted to meet with those two again, and hopefully get something done during the night. Inactivity chafed her soul and aggravated her heart. "Where are they?"

[identity profile] godsgift2man.livejournal.com 2007-09-08 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Some distance from here." Waka pointed to one of the letter and number labels on the doors. "We need to find the room with the label M61. Fortunately, ma chèrie, you have me as your guide!"

He held out his hand to Amaterasu, smiling. "And this time, I can accompany you personally. Unfortunately, your bouncing little friend simply ruined the atmosphere back on Nippon. But now that it's just the two of us..."

Then what were they waiting for!?

Before Waka could finish that thought, Amaterasu took him by the hand and took off for the room in question. She'd waited for the opportunity to work with those two for so long, why would she wait a moment longer?

...and now she finally had the chance to explore with Waka, just as he'd said they would back on the Ark of Yamato. This thought alone put a brilliant smile on her face as she darted down the halls.
