DAY 26: Men's Showers (Second Shift)

Gluttony didn't want to leave his Lust, not after he'd just found her!  But the mean tasty nurses said he had to.  "You can't join her in the women's showers" was a bad excuse.  He didn't like the mean tasty nurses.  Maybe Lust would let him eat them later.  Still, he knew he would see his Lust again, and that was good.  He liked Lust.  She was good and beautiful and smart and kind.  Why did they have to take him away from his Lust?

Still, he would see her again.  And she would tell him it was okay to eat the tasty nurses, and that would be good.  His new friend liked eating people, too.  That made him happy to find a friend who shared a love for eating people.  Today was a very good day.

As he entered the showers, he stood under a shower head and opened his mouth wide to drink up the water.  It wasn't as good as eating people, or eating waffles that didn't scream when he bit into them so weren't nearly as good as eating people, but it was still swallowing something, and that made him feel better.

She just didn't understand. "It's indecent!" he insisted. "All I need is a basin and towel. Please?" It wasn't that Armand wanted to make trouble. He still didn't know everything that was going on here, but he didn't blame the nurses. "Why can't I do that?"

It was hard for her to have to be so firm, especially when the patient seemed genuinely freaked out about this. It was just communal showering, and yet he was acting as if it was the end of the world!

Still, this might be something she would have to take note of so it could be worked on in therapy. Being that scared of something that really wasn't all that scary in the first place might be an indication of some sort of past trauma.

She was going to have to be careful about this, though, as she didn't want to send Mr. Larue into a hysteria. "All right, I suppose we can take you to one of the normal bathrooms just this once, but you're going to have to get used to this sort of thing. If you promise you'll work on getting over your phobia, I'll make an exception. Does that sound good?"

"Phobia? I'm not frightened." But then he realized that she had agreed to let him wash somewhere else. Armand dug his fingernails into his palms and made an effort to calm himself.

"Merci, mademoiselle," he said, trying to sound polite and reasonable. "I'm not used to this."

Oh, well, he was rather polite, wasn't he? She couldn't help smiling at him, the poor dear. "Well, if it's not fear, then... Whatever it takes to get used to it, all right? We can't make exceptions for you each and every time, you know." Some of the nurses would have been harsher with him, but her heart went out to these patients, and she didn't feel it was right to be cruel.

She held out her hand to him slowly. "Anyway, come with me, and we'll move over to another bathroom."

That was better. His return smile was genuine with gratitude. "You'll see how very clean I can get," he promises. He isn't sure how else to explain or what he'll do next time. Maybe it wouldn't seem so strange then.

To reassure her, because he could tell she was doing something exceptionally nice for him, Armand added, "I will try harder next time. People don't do this where I'm from." Well, polite people didn't anyway. He was forgetting for the moment that Mr. Larue, whoever he was, probably wasn't from France.

"I'm sure they don't." It was a little patronizing, but not overly so. It was just hard to believe what he was saying, taking into account his current situation. Still, he was making an effort, or he at least planned to, and she appreciated that.

"On we go, then," she said with a nod, and with that, she started to lead him to a different bathroom where he could wash himself in solitude.
