Night 74: Sun Room

[From here.]

The expansive room was as dark and as quiet as last night, but that didn't do anything to set Castiel at ease. He took a moment to tilt his head upward, trying to see if he could make out even the slightest sign of the third floor through the skylight. But somehow, even through sun streamed through that window every day, there was no way to make out anything above the second floor.

Some kind of illusion, maybe? It was bizarre, either way.

Castiel refocused his attention, shifting to step toward the library doors. They couldn't waste too much time here and risk getting attacked.

Just as Lloyd hadn't admitted to being worried, he refused to admit that he was relieved when Kratos showed up. Instead, he masked the feeling with stifled frustration. Where have you been? he wanted to ask. Why didn't you come out of your room all day? But the moment they stepped into the Sun Room he snapped his mouth shut. The memory of being attacked here by Ed was still too close and too clear. While there hadn't been anyone or anything else here the night before, he didn't want to draw anything's attention if there was.

...not that they didn't stand out like beacons with their flashlights and the lantern on. Lloyd tried to shake off the sense of unease that accompanied that thought. Casting a quick look around, he headed for the library door.

Oblivious to his frustration, Kratos led the way, giving the room his own cursory examination before stepping into the next room.

The Sun Room appeared to be completely empty.

Scar moved quickly, checking back to make sure that Lust was still close. There was always the chance that something waited out of sight

Korra picked up the pace as soon as she was in the Sun Room. She could feel the rush in her chi from the moon through the glass ceiling. Why couldn't he take the fight outside? She was going stir crazy in this stupid building.

Almost to the other side, though. Then they could get upstairs and work on ending this.

As they entered the Sun Room, Sora spotted a few other groups, including Tsubaki and Korra. While it would have been nice to run over and say hi, he knew now wasn't the right time for that, not when there was a chance that they'd get ambushed here.

Instead, Sora turned back to Link and nodded, gesturing toward the library. They could make a break for it...

One or two people with small handguns would never be able to functionally clear this room, given its size and layout and the arrangement of the furnishings, but L did what he could. It appeared to be quiet again. With another brief nod to Lana, he moved towards the library door.

Link was obviously taken aback that elves wore hats like he. The ancient hero hadn't been an elf... had he? The legend of a man had supposedly come from humble beginnings, but beyond that, so little was known...

Perhaps there was a "Santa." He would have to ask the princess when he returned home.

Pulling his thoughts back to the present, Link returned Sora's nod and picked up the pace as they crossed the library. There was no time to waste in here, and no time to be distracted. Not when anything could be looming out of sight.

The easiest way to clear a room was to have it be empty -- while the room was filled with the same furniture as always, the only things in motion were herself and Ryuuzaki.

She followed him through the library door, turning immediately towards the shelf with the secret book on it.

Likewise, Tsubaki started to hurry as soon as they were through the doors. The room seemed empty at first glance, but then it often did, and Tsubaki wanted no part of an ambush or a sneak attack that she couldn't defend against. If Landel had set guards in position to keep people from reaching the third floor, then with the amount of traffic the Sun Room was likely to get it was likely better for the Special Counselled person for them to avoid a confrontation.

She sidestepped a chair, marking Korra's progress as they wound through the furniture toward the library door.

Still quiet! They could do this, they could make it through.

Korra reached the door to the library and clumsily tore it open. Yes! She hated getting stuck here at night, and now they'd gotten lucky two nights in a row!

She didn't waste any time and dashed inside, checking back briefly to make sure Tsubaki was still there. The girl was completely silent!

Lust followed after, jaw tight and eyes scanning the room as the moved through it. The same as last night, as far as she could see. It was almost worse, this tense anticipation and waiting for something that might never come.

Perhaps that was the point.

Scar didn't dare utter a whisper as he reached the door to the patient library. He pulled it open and slipped silently inside, making sure that Lust was still close behind him.

The anticipation was miserable, both the short term and the long term. Not knowing if they were about to be jumped, not knowing who else would be gone come morning... Not knowing anything. That was the most infuriating part in all of this.
