Day 25: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on with its usual jingle, the Head Doctor's voice carrying with a bit more authoritative ease than it had earlier.

"Good evening, patients, and I'm pleased to announce that we've finally finished organizing when our new batch of patients will be introduced, and unfortunately, it'll have to be tonight while you're all in bed. Truly sad, that, as I'm sure all of you are eager to see our new faces as soon as possible!

"In any case, the dinner that will be brought to you tonight will be herb-marinated pork roast with buttery corn-on-the-cob and fluffy mashed potatoes. Of course, we have our usual vegetarian salad available to those who request it, along with our regular assortment of drinks."

He paused and sighed. After all, it had been a long day.

"Oh, of course--Some of you may be unhappy to hear that Dr. Crane and Dr. Jiyani will no longer be serving us here at Landel's Institute. For those of you who were scheduled to have sessions with them, we'll be providing a substitute group therapy session in upcoming days. More details on that tomorrow.

"I believe that's all for now. Enjoy your dinner!"

The intercom clicked off.

[ As always, post to this entry with separate threads for each set of roommates. Thanks! ]

After the rather interesting lunch, Xemnas had requested to spend the remainder of the day in his room. If the Superior needed anything, it was some time to think about various matters. The Order, especially. But for tonight, he had decided to continue investigating the second floor. Hopefully, the little trip would yield more useful results than both the courtyard and the kitchen did last night.

After dinner was brought, the Nobody settled himself at the desk and began eating his meal.

Albel was shocked to discover he had actually fallen asleep. It was only after a certain wench woke him up and escorted him back to his room, he had realized that he actually had dozed off. At the positive side, no maggots had bothered him with their stupid chatter.

However, it meant that the nightshift was nearing soon, to which the Elicoorian was definitely looking forward to. Hopefully, the maggot he would fight tonight wasn't some disappointing weakling. After all, it had been a while since the captain had some sort of excitement.

After he had gathered his weapons, he plopped down on the chair and began eating his dinner.

Masaru left the Sun Room in much better spirit than when he had entered it. He was still a little annoyed at Roland from back at lunch, but until he saw the guy again, there wasn't much the boy could do about it. He'd just have to punch some sense into him later, right? The thought left the street-fighter grinning.

When he he to his room, it was already occupied. "You again, huh?" they boy muttered to himself. They hadn't talked very long the one time they'd actually met (it couldn't even be considered a conversation, really), but within that time, the guy had still managed to run Masaru the wrong way.

Whatever. He was hungry, and he'd be damned if he was going to have anything but a pleasant dinner.

Once his roommate arrived he could start getting work done. Rather than just stare impatiently at the door, Recluse started consolidating the encoded notes he had written out today, and began translating the promised notes for Haku into Japanese.

He was a little out of practice with the language, but he wasn't one who was prone to forget anything. He hardly looked at the page that he was writing out, eating his dinner with his free hand. When was that boy going to turn up? He had quite a lot of weapons to make tonight.

'Mr. Cullen' was not happy that the nurse was being so embarrassing about this whole thing. No, he couldn't walk in a really straight line. Yes, he was still slurring alll his sentences. But did she really have to almost yell all of this to the general population? He was stoned off of an unwanted pain medication overdose, not deaf!

The nurse sat him down in a chair, put a tray of food (Urgh! Not again!) in front of him, put a fork in one of his hands and a knife in the other, asked him if he needed any more help with all of this ("Exashperation: I can put this disgushting shtuff in my mouth without yer help, meatbag."), then, only then was he left alone.

He stared at the food, a little suspicious that it might be starring back.

Today has been kriffing awful.

For a first full day, Citan had found the hours to be rather unsatisfying. He hadn't learned anything new, hadn't gathered any further information. That was unsettling. He supposed he had a bit of a feel for the place, but nothing further.

Most disappointing.

Night would, perhaps, bring further opportunity. He waved away his nurse politely and made a line for his supper. At least they were well fed.

"And how are you this evening?" he asked his roommate, cocking his head and looking at him closely. Was the other man all right?

Renji was already in the room when Hisoka had arrived; he'd spent the end of the shift there, just laying on the bed where the orderlies had dropped him. He'd only rolled over onto his side to face the wall; it made him look like he was asleep.

And he wanted to be asleep. He wanted to not be able to think any more, at all. And he wanted a shower, with water hot enough to scald the skin right off of him. And... a lot of other things. But mostly, to just not think and remember.

He'd made so many mistakes. And he'd been punished for them.

[identity profile] somber-secret.livejournal.com 2007-07-13 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
From the minute he was dropped off at his room Hisoka could tell something was up. It had nothing to do with the tension that filled the room or the fact that Renji looked as if he could have had a much better day, even though his back was turned to him-- he had always been good with reading body language.

Alright, so maybe it did, but it didn't change the fact that the boy knew something strange was going on. His roommate was always the first one to get started on whatever and now he looked like a broken doll. A comparison the empath hated more than ever.

Without taking his eyes off his roommate, Hisoka took a small step further into the room.

"Hey..." What was going on?

Tatsumi had excused himself after lunch, spending his time in a quiet corner of the sunroom undisturbed. It had given him a chance to catch up with his notes (there'd been more information revealed today than he had realized), and to think over everything that had happened, both at lunch, and with Tsuzuki.

He felt better, if somewhat subdued by the time the nurse escorted him back to the room he shared with Light. He respectfully kept to his own side, sitting down at the desk with his meal, going over his thoughts and his plans quietly to make use of the time he was alone.

Re: M65

[identity profile] godhood.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Last shift had been rather uneventful for Light as well, aside from continued small talk with Emily (who he was now convinced was hiding something, even if he wasn't entirely certain what just yet), but now that nightshift was fast approaching and he still hadn't made any real progress, he was beginning to get frustrated. Tomorrow would be better.

It wasn't as if today had been a complete loss, however. With the wealth of information he had already come across, it would be a relatively simple matter to fill in whatever blanks he had left, as well as make it even easier to bridge the gaps he had failed to today. The only question that really remained now was whether or not he should risk wandering the halls again tonight when he was more likely to run into trouble than something useful. Trouble could be useful in its own right, of course, but if he couldn't get himself out of it again, there wasn't much of a point to it.

He was still considering this once he arrived back at his room again with his nurse, and after giving her a small smile and a "thank you" (it always paid to be polite), he stepped inside. "Good evening, Tatsumi-san," he greeted as he walked to his desk. If he had been anyone else, Light might have felt guilty about suspecting him yesterday, but things like that no longer bothered him. Tatsumi hadn't even noticed it, as far as he knew, so there was no reason to mention it just yet.

By the time Rukia was brought to her room, she felt like her whole body was humming with tension. She had felt Renji lose consciousness twice, and that sense of something horribly wrong just wouldn't leave her. And then his incoherent messages on the bulletin board... What had happened??

Fists clenched, she stood in the middle of the small room for a few moments after the nurse closed and locked the door. She wanted to blast a hole in the wall right then and go find Renji. She couldn't shake the feeling that he needed her, and she wasn't there for him. It was silly, really, because he was more than capable of taking care of himself, but she just felt like she needed to be with him.

Turning sharply, Rukia went to her desk and sat. She quickly ate as much of the food as she could stomach - which wasn't very much - then began organizing her meager equipment for the night. She would be out the door the second the locks were disengaged.

Jack didn't know how he had managed to sleep through lunch and most of the afternoon, but it didn't bother him too much. He glanced around the sun room and realized he must have nodded off at some point. He HAD been up all night and by the sound of things, he'd be doing it again tonight. He glowered at the sling he still wore- if only his healing was still working, things would be going differently. Still, he could come up with a plan to get out of this hellhole yet.

The nurse led him back to his room without much protestation on the Fable's part. He was in the mood for food, no matter if it was institution cooking. Hell, the fact that it was PORK ROAST was enough to elicit some surprise as he sat at his new desk and eyed his dinner. "Tax dollars at work?" he mused to himself and picked up a fork.

Haku smiled and thanked his nurse, who smiled back. "Aren't you glad Chris," she said. "You get to eat dinner with your roommate tonight."

He laughed and nodded. "I'm so happy," he beamed. She bid him a good night and Haku sat down at his desk, ignoring the food in favor of his journal. He had to write down information for Zabuza-san as well as Recluse-sama.

He waited for Artemis to show up. Perhaps he might be interested in a trade?

Artemis sighed as Nurse Hedgerow escorted him down the hallway. He really enjoyed talking with Obi-Wan--it was a shame that his pleasant conversation had to be replaced by his nurse's whining.

"I don't understand it Sean," she said, sounding confused, "Don't you like being outside? I thought you would enjoy planting something."

The boy shrugged, "I just wanted to read--that's all."

"Well, young man," the nurse said sternly as she shooed Artemis through M47's door. "Perhaps you'll be a bit more cooperative after some rest. I'm only thinking of your best interests, and you should respect that." Most would think the nurse was stepping out of line, but the top entry on Sean Malloy's chart mentioned that he had a serious problem with authority. So far, this was the only time it had manifested, so the nurse thought it best to chastise him--just a little. She left Artemis without saying good night.

The boy looked at his food, then up at Haku. It was a rather uncomfortable situation--considering the last time Artemis had seen Haku, a scalpel ended up inches from his ear. But the boy wasn't about to let something that trivial bother him.

"Good evening. Glad to see you're still here."

"I still don’t understand why you’d want to be outside while you’re like that, Mr. Flynn." The nurse chided as she escorted Axel into the room, the redhead shrugging lightly at her words before flopping ungracefully on his bed. Unlike most regular people, the heat and humidity of the Greenhouse did him some good, feeling much more refreshed than he had been earlier that day. Never mind the fact that he’d been asleep until lunch, but that was something that could easily be looked over.

Axel listened intently to the Doctor’s words on the intercom while keeping an eye on the nurse whom set his plate of food on the desk with her usual smile, in which he returned with an exaggerated version of his own. Tossing his crutches to the foot of his bed, he watched the woman intently until she finally left the room before he tended to his food almost tenderly.

"We’ll be up to our elbows by next week if they keep admitting this many people." He murmured with a sigh, stuffing a spoonful of mashed potatoes into his mouth.

So it wasn't peas this time, but corn. Score! Ashton loved corn on the cob! He wasn't a big fan of getting it stuck in his teeth, but he loved the buttery corny taste.

Sometimes this place wasn't so bad after all, he remembered, as he saw his roommate chilling over there on his bed. It was good to see friends again, and by his fourth day here it seemed like he'd known Axel for a lot longer. That was one of the bonuses of being with someone through hard times - it made for stronger bonds and truer smiles.

"You noticed that the place is filling up too?" he said as his nurse let him away, making his way over to his own bed for once and collapsing over onto it, pulling the tray over to nosh. The tiredness in his eyes showed... seeing the doctor today really took it out of him.

It was almost time for night, which SubZero was looking forward too. Another chance to do something to fight back against this place, rather than just sit around and pretend to behave and get drugged for misbehaving.

The nurse hadn't even given him a chance to defend himself! Well, at least he had been left alone in the greenhouse, but now he was sweaty from being out there, and much too warm.

SubZero sat down with his dinner and began eating immediately, he wanted to check out some of the things he'd found with HK last night.

Once again, the change in shift came much sooner than expected and after what seemed like a few minutes of speaking to Ren, Naoya's nurse approached with the large smile on her face. Dinner time, she said, the young clairvoyant couldn't help but be a bit on edge... His roommate wasn't the friendliest.

Stepping into his room, Naoya heard his nurse cheerfully wish him goodnight before locking the door.

"Hello..." Naoya tried, carefully moving to go sit at his own desk.

As the nurse led Hitsugaya into his room and offered him the vegetarian selection and a large cup of water, the young captain mulled over Matsumoto's words. He didn't want to deal with any of it, but it wasn't like there were a better choice. Somehow, being here in this place had brought Momo a level of confidence that she didn't have before, and while he still couldn't trust her so long as she had her crush on Aizen -- and being further ahead in time than her, he knew she would still have it -- he also knew he could rely on her for as long as Aizen weren't here. She probably wanted to get out of here so she could go find and 'rescue' him from Ichimaru's manipulations. Ichimaru was a snake, but he couldn't see Aizen being controlled by Gin.

It made things awkward, if nothing else. He would have thought on it longer, but there was a lot of work to do before the night.

He pulled out his journal and began etching out a series of new maps. A lot of people needed them, and if he had the time before night arrived, he'd make some extras, just to be safe. He also wrote out the orders for the people coming to see him tonight. While he didn't like putting these orders onto paper, he needed to have a private chat with Momo, and would give the orders to Jean when she arrived so that they could work things out. He had originally hoped to pass most of the orders on to Renji, but something was up with the man. He had said painkillers, and that seemed like an easy answer, but something in the way he wrote, the way he outright insisted that he ~not~ take the day off, and his reluctance to see anyone threw him off.

There were a lot of things to worry about, and all of it rested on his shoulders. It was no wonder people saw him as dour.

Sanzo didn't bother with the dinner: he wasn't feeling particularly hungry right now, and the monk wanted to make sure he got a little sleep before the nightshift. Maybe the chimp could run around nearly all day and all night without any effect, but Sanzo was human, and it was bound to catch up eventually, no matter how much willpower he put into making it otherwise.

He could manage with very little sleep- life wasn't about to work its way around a person's preferences – but that also led to stupid mistakes. That kind of shit also tended to happen at the worst times, so the only measure the priest had against it was to be prepared. The doors weren't going to unlock until the next shift, so he might as well make use of the time.

Sanzo glanced over as he lay back on the bed. Hitsugaya looked busy as hell.

It was definitely a change from most of the kids he'd seen before, Goku included: not many had really understood the whole concept of sitting their asses down and actually working (silently), so it was still a little surprising to see his cellmate so intent on whatever it was he was doing.

Thank goodness for three thousand year old wisdom.

Momo was very much calmed down by the time the nurse took her back to her room, despite her worry about Renji. She'd felt his reiatsu dampen and waver, albeit very faintly through her headache. So many people were worried about him, thanks to his bulletin post and the smaller shinigami knew whatever had happened, Renji just wanted to be left alone. At least until he gathered himself back together. She'd done her best to stop further inquires, but there wasn't anything anything else she could do other than simply be there if Renji needed her.

Requesting the salad from her nurse and requesting an extra glass of water, Momo sat at her desk and ate the greens with speed. She couldn't remember how long she'd been in the room last time before the doors unlocked and she did have a mission this night. Not to mention a sword that needed cleaning
and a roommate she somewhat still felt like strangling.

Dinner finished quickly and one glass of water left, Momo sat on her bed with the water and stared at the floor. She still had a headache and any amount of lessening it had done had gone away thanks to Signum's blow across her face. She tentatively touched her nose just to check it wasn't going to start bleeding again anytime soon.

The shinigami needed to clean Renji's sword as soon as she could, but until the nurses brought Integra back to the room, she wouldn't risk bringing it out from under her mattress. Instead, she got up to change into a fresh shirt as her own still had blood from her nose earlier. Once back on the bed, she started to tear the fabric along the seams to create two cleaning rags; one for the sword and one for her face.

Aside from that strange explosion of posts on the bulletin board, Naminé was finally feeling that things were starting to go in her favor. She managed to get a hold of Riku, and things were set for tonight. She did actually have a plan tonight, though she knew that those were often ruined by the monsters. There was a spot on her map that she wanted to explore and map. Hopefully it wouldn't be too dangerous, but at least they were not going unarmed.

Raven hadn't returned yet, but Naminé was intending on asking if she wanted to come along. The more people, the better, in her opinion. Maybe Riku would be taking a few friends of his own.

The intercom was, as ever, depressing to hear. She couldn't believe that the Head Doctor was not satisfied with the amount of people this Institute held prisoner. He was like an insatiable glutton, needing more and more. Maybe one day, he would get so many people that the Institute would burst and they'd be able to escape.

It was wishful thinking, but these thoughts contented Naminé as she ate her food.

Raven had actually spent the last shift alone in her room. She had asked the nurse if she could stay there because she "wasn't feeling well", which was obviously a lie. The nurse ended up believing her without asking any questions and she was allowed to rest in her room right after lunch.

She lost track of time before heading to the nearest bathroom. When she came back, Raven was quick to notice that her roommate had also arrived.

“Dinner time already?”

This morning was an unmitigated disaster in Relena's opinion. Worse than having Mariemeia taunting her with the deaths of innocent people, and that's saying a lot. At least her talk with Lee redeemed things, and her mood was considerably lighter than after her session with Dr. Washu crazy woman.

She waited until the nurse had left the room before pulling out her journal and a pen, ignoring her food for the moment. She also retrieved the slip of paper that was in her cookie at lunch. In her usual script, she copied the words onto the first page. She slipped the journal back into the desk drawer. Now she wouldn't have to keep up with a little piece of paper.

Turning towards her dinner, she forced herself to start eating everything but the corn how do you eat that anyway while she waited for Sakura to arrive.

Another night stuck in his room. Takaya was thrilled. He jerked away from the nurse and ignored his food. He wasn't hungry. Just the idea that he'd be spending yet another night trapped here made him so angry he could fucking scream.

He lay on his bed and crossed his arms behind his head, wondering if he'd get into trouble for tearing off the bandages on his face.

Quietly, Lee entered the room, not really listening to the nurse ramble about how he needed to take care not to tear the stitches and other such things. He really wasn't paying too much attention.

The food did not look terrible, but for some reason, Lee chose not to eat quite yet. His roommate did not look happy either.

"Takaya-san," he said quietly so that he would not startle the other man. "If the people you thought were friends seemed to not make any effort to see how you were doing...does that mean they do not care?"

Whatever. As long as nothing interfered with him. He had enough shit to look after already. His only reassurance was that at least he had Dean at his back and Elena was likely confident enough to hold her own tonight.

Reno lit a cigarette and flopped back on the bed, watching the smoke drift to the ceiling.

Yeah, that was really his only concern right now. If he could make through the night without his people falling apart on him, then everything else could go fuck themselves for all he cared.

The first thing D noticed when entering the room was that the air smelled distinctly of cigarette smoke. Wonderful. And here he was without any incense to neutralize the odor. He took his salad and sat at his desk.

"One would think that avoiding risky habits would be the top priority of anyone in this building." That was about as much annoyance as D planned on showing to a mostly complete stranger. If he knew Reno better, there would have been a whole other level of lecturing, but that was mostly reserved for Leon. Or had been.

But first, dinner. The first dinner he'd really felt like eating in days. Even if the food wasn't at all something he was used to, it smelled and tasted good, so he wasn't going to complain.

Returning to his room, Kurama had a genuinely pleasant feeling about him. Yes, today had gone much better than yesterday had, and for that he was grateful. There was nothing worse than being on uncomfortable terms with someone that you were forced to spend time with...

Kurama took his tray of food from the nurse, waiting until she had left the room and shut the door before setting it aside. Instead of sitting down to eat, he went to the dresser and fished a small red something out of his sleeve. Opening the drawer, he pulled another one out of a sock.

"So, how was your afternoon?" Kurama cast a smile in Omi's direction as he set to work prying open two rose hips that he'd collected.

Well, that last shift had certainly been an adventure. He hadn't had occasion to be that overtly polite and cheerful in quite some time. It was almost something of a relief. Hakkai didn't just hide behind his masks, after all, he relished them. Proving he could still retreat behind them at will was a nice change from attempting to patch the cracks the last few days had left in them.

And yet again, he would have to be satisfied with a salad. Ah well. He unwrapped the bandages from his eye, wishing he had a mirror so he could see exactly how much damage there was, although it seemed, from a cautious touch, not overly bad. Unless one counted stitches and swelling as bad. Hakkai had had worse. In any case, it would most likely be nearly gone by morning, knowing how this place healed things.

Now all he could do was sit, eat his salad, and wait for nightshift.

Miku had been cleaned up (she'd scrubbed herself well to eliminate any trace of bitter bile) and given fresh, new clothing to wear before the nurse helped her to her room.

"Poor dear, we'll get you some nice broth and crackers, settle that stomach of yours," her nurse was saying as she helped the weak girl into bed. "Don't you worry about a thing, in fact, why don't you rest a little more? You're as weak as a kitten!"

"Mm." Miku's noise was non-committal, she could sleep forever and ever and not care at this point. Just blessed, deep, dark sleep.

Sai had spent the last shift in the sun room, but had spoken to no one, simply sitting and thinking to himself and adding the occasional reply to the bulletin board. It was still very difficult, accepting the information he'd been given. While those on the board were helping, he was also becoming even more confused.

He sat in silence in his room as well, stirring around the food on his plate. Perhaps he'd eat the corn. He'd need nourishment before the next nightshift, if it was anything like the last (and he had no reason to believe it wouldn't be.)

Kurikara was hungry. He'd spent the last shift prodding at flowers and giving anyone who came near enough a lazy scowl. The messages on the bulletin left him feeling restless and uneasy.

When the nurse let him into the room, he hopped onto the bed and crossed his legs, dragging the food tray into his lap. His roommate was temporarily ignored. Kurikara ate with his hands but he was clean and efficient.

Presently, he glanced at Sai, and grinned in his usual harsh, unpleasant manner. "So you survived the night, boy."

"What a large book you have there, dear!"

A grunt. "Sohma gave it to me."

"Dr. Sohma, dear."

"Indeed." Quack, more like.

The door shut behind Javert as he entered his room, the thick leatherbound book Dr. Sohma had given him held firmly in one hand. He paused as he set the book on his table, and a quick frown flashed across his face as he glanced at the empty bed on the other side of the room.

Reynolds hadn't been in bed this morning, and Javert had assumed that his roommate had merely gotten up before him and gone to breakfast early. But now that he thought about it, the sheets hadn't been disturbed and he hadn't seen the man all day. Usually Reynolds was in here before Javert was...but perhaps he was merely late today. Javert shook his head and opened the book to page one.

Half an hour later, the tray had been absentmindedly cleared of food and the former inspector was beginning to grow impatient. Fifty pages in and no mention of anyone named "Javert." Clearly all that rot about a character who bore certain similarities to him had been a mere ploy to send him off - perhaps an attempt by Sohma to make sure that he was absorbed with this book for the rest of the night. But that was preposterous; fights broke out in the cafeteria at every meal. There were others who would be better off being subjected to the mind-numbingly boring details of a bishop's life.

His gaze wandered to the still-empty chair across from his, and he frowned again. Where the hell was Reynolds? Javert wasn't particularly fond of the man, but in a place like this, he could use all the acquaintances he could get - particularly those who had been in this place longer than he. Reynold's comments about creatures at night floated uncomfortably through his mind, and he stopped them in their tracks. Impossible.

Shaking his head as if to clear his thoughts, he returned his attention to Les Misérables.

Usagi allowed herself to be brought back to her room for dinner without any fuss. Today had been a waste, she had seen her friends from the previous night but hadn't got to talk to any of them. Now night was coming and she had no idea what to do. Depressed by that thought Usagi barely finished her meal. Her roommate was nowhere to be found which didn't help her mood, she missed the company of another person. Even in the dead of night she always had Luna curled up on the edge of her bed.

When her meal was finished Usagi realized she was stuck with only two options. One was to stay in her room all night and hope nothing attacked her in her sleep. The other was to search the hallways alone and hope to find people she knew or something to help her escape. Both options terrified her, but at least she had some hope of accomplishing something if she went outside instead of hiding. Usagi was sure that was the decision any of the other Senshi would have made if they were in her position and what Luna would have counseled her to do. Maybe she would head for the file rooms that Naruto and Rock Lee went to last night, not that she actually knew where they were.

Set on her decision to explore Usagi curled up on her bed with her flashlight and closed her eyes, waiting for the doors to open.

There were far too many things going on, or so Adelheid was certain. Doctors were being pulled in and dragged out, patients were being announced in ever-increasing amounts only to be ripped away, there were ever-more monsters and threats during the night shift... there was just too much activity to pin down any one thing. Not even someone like Adelheid, who prided himself on his perceptiveness, could find what he was looking for. It was a proverbial stampede of facts and information; trying to chase down one would prove impossible, so lost it would be in the swarm.

To say nothing of his problems with most of the patients he had once counted as friends. Maybe this new swarm would provide someone just as useful as what he'd lost. Of course, the problem with this was the simple matter that trying to form alliances was impossible when one couldn't predict who would be taken and who would be left behind. Absolutely impossible.

Perhaps that was why Adelheid flopped onto his bed, gazing up at the ceiling without touching his food for the moment. So many problems, and Adelheid was a solutions-person by instinct. To be presented with a situation that he couldn't solve with his own power was maddening.

Compared to the thoughts and ideas that were spinning ever so messily in Adel's head, Larsa's mind was surprisingly calm by the time he awoke from a well-deserved nap. The sun had already dipped into the horizon by the time his nurse came to escort him out of the Sun Room, absent-mindedly trying to rub the sleep out of his good eye as they walked down the hall. The icepack that he kept had now completely melted, so the woman kindly produced another for him when they reached the room.

His roommate's posture was what kept him quiet at first, allowing his nurse to examine his eye one more time before sighing.

"Honestly, Nick, playing with rowdy boys like that. You should be more careful." She chided him, in which the child returned with a wary smile. It only took a minute more for the nurse to give him his food before leaving the room, though Larsa found himself staring at it like it was a bowl of gruel.

"...It hardly makes any sense." He finally spoke and sighed.

Just a little bit longer. Just one more meal before River would receive the beating she so rightfully deserved, if not the death. The latter was something that Kadaj wasn't entirely sure about, especially after how much backlash there had been after he'd attacked Elena, but what did people expect from something like this? If he did manage to defeat her-- which he would, of course, because last time had just been a fluke-- he was hardly going to become her best friend or something ridiculous like that. That wasn't how it worked, was it? No, he had other things in mind. Abject humiliation was one of them, but he'd settle for torturing her in full view of Elena, killing her, then doing the same to that stupid blonde. It would be even better if he could catch her little boyfriend in the process, as well as the Turk and the president, but he was willing to settle for less. For now.

Unfortunately, fantasizing about all of this did nothing to make nightshift come faster, so with a small sigh, he went to his desk and examined the food the nurse had left behind for him before starting to eat. It seemed like his roommate wasn't around just yet, and after the stunning conversation they'd had last time, he found it hard to be anything but pleased by this. Being called a psychopath by the blond boy was more than enough to turn Kadaj against him, but Uzumaki was still one of the lesser evils of the institute. As long as he didn't talk to much whenever he did show up, he'd stay that way.
