Day 70: Bus 2

As usual, night had ended too damn early. Anise really wanted to see what was at the end of that tunnel! But on the bright side, it sounded like she and her friends could get back there easily.

Actually, maybe it was a good thing that they got interrupted when they did. Today was a field trip day; it'd give them a chance to stock up on any tools or supplies they might need for their venture into the unknown. Anise just hoped the Head Doctor wasn't going to interfere with them going back, now that they were so close...

The outfit selected for Anise that day was a little colorless for her tastes, but the style was cute enough to satisfy her. There was a long, striped sweater with a hood. Two long flaps dangled down from the hood, resembling the floppy ears of a rappig. She fidgeted with them as she was led aboard one of the buses. It looked like she was the first on this bus, so she went ahead and sat down in a window seat.

With little else to do at the moment, she took the blueberry muffin from her paper bag and started breaking off tiny bits with her fingers to eat.

Fai woudln't be a particularly good vampire if he wasn't able to sense when his prey was near. Perhaps that was what drew him to the bus in the first place. He spotted the ninja in the back and headed in that direction. He lifted his hand in an enthusiastic wave.

"How nice that we get to see some of the scenery today." He plopped down into the seat near Kurogane. Fai had no reason to worry about where they were going or what would happen so he only saw this as a good opportunity for some new scenery.

"It's not some pleasure trip," he warned, realizing then that he'd not told the magician anything about these days. "You get some time in the town. Only thing worth doing is going to the bar. Outside of that, if you get stuck in town or outside of the building when the sun goes down, the same stuff happens. The people there get affected too."

"I would think more people would try and stay in town. As long as you can survive against that kind of stuff, then you could eventually make an escape. It would be better then the institute wouldn't it?" Fai actually wasn't so sure about that but if they used that as a chance to find their way out of the world then it couldn't hurt.

"There must be something else besides just the bar! We get to go shopping right? I want something tasty~" Fai was sure there had to be some good food in town. Even if that wasn't the only thing that could sustain him, it didn't mean he couldn't enjoy eating something good once in awhile. The institute food was alright, but Fai liked a little more flavor..or even better, something sweet!

"You still wake up back in your room," he said quickly, "even if you're in the town when the night ends."

For Kurogane, anything would have been better than the Institute, and he'd tried many times to get out. All had ended badly. The town was a reminder of too many of those bad endings, and the only comfort to be had was the bar so long as he wasn't forced out of it because of someone again. His gaze lingered on Fai for a moment before he went back to watching others board.

"I'm going to the bar. Do what you want."

"That's a neat trick." There was a little bit of a frown at Fai thought about that. This place had some very strange magic. He pushed that thought aside for now and resumed smiling at Kurogane.

"I don't think it would be very good for me to step foot in the bar. I wouldn't want to be carried home~" Fai still wasn't much of a drinker but since this was his first time at the town, he'd much rather walk around and see what was available then indulge in drinking times.

"Neat" wasn't the word. Annoying was more appropriate, and inconvenient. But it did stand that it was some kind of magic, and if they could break that somehow...

Kurogane let the idea go as he tilted his head back, narrowing his eyes to Fai's last comment. "I thought you were done acting."

Fai opened his mouth to respond and then shut it again. He pursed his lips into a slight pout. Fai was never going to actually be done acting. It was too much of a habit at this point. He may have promised to be more truthful, but that didn't mean he had to stop having fun.

"I don't enjoy drinking as much as you do. Ahh..but maybe you want a drinking partner. Is that it? Are you going to be lonely if I don't join you~? How sad, Kuro-pon."

Fai figured Kurogane would shoot that down immediately but if the ninja did actually want company then Fai would willingly tag along.

The last thing he needed was someone bothering him during the only time where he was guaranteed no kids would be able to, however he did have the added problem of this being Fai's first time in the town. The situation had been reversed when he'd first come to the town, however that Fai hadn't been as informative. Kurogane didn't want to make that mistake, or else this one could end up getting more than just part of him chewed on by the transformed townspeople.

"Go look around the town first," was what he eventually answered, seeing that would be more important, "Get familiar enough with it in case we get stuck. The bar's at the end of the main street, at the end by the other park. You can find me when you're done."

The ninja didn't have much intention of being anywhere else once they reached the town, which would be soon as the buses were finally starting to pull out. The first one moved ahead of them with theirs following next.

Fai looked out the window once the bus started to move. "I'll be sure to find you after I've tried some of the tasty food available and done a little shopping. Unless you want to eat together, then maybe I can wait." But eating was definitely going to happen. "You really should eat if you intend to do a lot of drinking."

Fai took on a bit of a motherly tone, but kept his gaze out the window. He didn't want to miss a second of what they passed by. Kurogane had said to get familiar with the town. That mean also getting familiar with the route back to the institute. One could never be too prepared for anything that might happen.
