Night 68: West Wing, North Hall 1-A

[from here]

Spotting the door to the second block, Al quickly went over and opened the door. After shining the light both ways down the corridor to make sure he wasn't being followed, he went in.

Nothing he could do about it right now, though, he thought as he turned his flashlight this way and that. The recreational field was that way. But he wasn't going to scale the wall tonight. What places hadn't he been? The area beyond the Sun Room, the stairs.

It made more sense to cover the rest of the first floor before using the stairs. Both places were in the same direction, in any case. He turned to the door that lead to the next hall.

Following a quick look down the block hallways to check for M55, Kurogane had gone quickly through the small hallway and out into the larger ones, taking the right turn immediately. As with the night before, he wasn't going to risk the field for both the weather and what may be out there. If after he had gotten a flower from Tsubaki he felt the need to head to the basement, he might risk it, but he'd deal with that matter after returning.

The magician had been there for a day now; he needed to know that Fai could handle the situation better.

As much as Zero tried to ignore it, it quickly became obvious how difficult the former Reploid's forward progression was going to be without any sort of guiding light. His inadequate eyes struggled to adjust to the darkness; he could barely make out a few dark shadows somewhere in the distance or a flashlight beam here and there. Anything else? Forget about it.

This was going to be a frustrating experience, wasn't it...

He was still going to try. He had to try. And he had to hurry, in case a certain someone decided that following his dear friend despite whatever dangers he posed was still a good idea...

From the block door, Zero walked straight ahead until he came to a wall; then he placed one hand against said wall to follow it as he turned right and broke out in a jog. At least this part of the Institute was easy to navigate...he'd done it so many times already.

It felt strange to be heading down this hall without Claude walking with him, Guy had to admit. It was difficult for him to even think back on the last time they hadn't spent a night together, or at least started it together.

The hall was quiet, like always, with only some lights bobbing ahead of him in the distance, and the pitter-patter of -- was that the rain outside, or patients' footsteps? So long as it wasn't some monster on the prowl, Guy didn't mind.

He kept his hand curled around the hilt of his sword as he moved down the hall. The Head Doctor was right about one thing: their numbers had been thinning, and Guy didn't have any plans to die (again).

Taking his attention off his companions, Lloyd swung his flashlight up and down the hall, but there didn't appear to be anyone in sight. He pocketed his map again, figuring they didn't need it for the moment.

"So, you said you guys just woke up here this morning. Has anyone warned you about stuff at night, or about being weaker than you were before?"

Night in the Institute was always filled with the purposeful shuffling of poorly-clad feet, sprinkled through with the occasional sharper tap of shoes that some patient had discovered from their own world. Sasuke hadn't paid enough attention the past few nights, caught up in -- routine, bizarre but comfortable (more comfortable than his brother's eyes). Now that he was, however, it was becoming clear exactly how familiar with the night's sounds he'd become.

Odd that he'd notice it more with his eyes open, but the senses always seemed to heighten with any change in their configuration.

This hall was longer, deeper, seemed almost to echo with footsteps. Gabe turned at once southward. He had never gotten very far, moving in this direction--the Arts and Crafts room was the furthest, and he hadn't been there long. He'd entertained the idea of heading in a different direction, but ... he couldn't. He didn't have a light, and this was the route he knew best.

So he turned southward, hand still firmly on the wall, eyes firmly forward, and used his unending litany to ground him. The only problem was that he kept forgetting to breathe.

Well, the north hall looked quiet enough. Anise hoped it would be just as quiet outside. Her pace slowed as she neared the doors at the end of the hall, listening for anything that might hint at what was out there.

When she was close to the door, she stopped, and sent a frown up at Guy. “It’s still raining,” she groaned. There was no mistaking the pitter-pattering sounds coming from outside. It didn’t sound nearly as bad as it was earlier that day, but now the wall was going to be all slippery, and her hair was going to get wet. This sucked.

Guided by his flashlight and his beastly tenacity, Sechs stormed his way out of the patient blocks and out into the first stretch of hallways he was forced to traverse upon. He had to get to the female patient block in order to reach Aigis' room. With the most speed he had ever been able to attain as a human since before he was ill, Sechs knew it couldn't be a long trip to take, but with any moment bringing forth Aigis' transformation, the extra seconds needed to reach here felt far too long for the Replica...
