Night 67: Women's Showers (off Sun Room)

[ from here! ]

"I intend to--" talking as he walked through the doorframe, Uryuu's voice stopped along with his movements. The first sign of something off had been the abrupt sense of disorientation, a dizzying nausea that did little to ameliorate his already augmenting aching, slight but pervasive discomfort in his skin, and the ceasless headache. The ground felt as if it rocked beneath his feet, as if his vestibular system had been tampered with, and he grimaced as he attempted to orient himself.

The next sign: the ground beneath his feet, the smooth hardness (not carpet) that met the soles of his boots as he stepped forward, and the slight echo, that which carried his words. His eyes adjusted onto tile, and he fumbled to retrieve his flashlight, which he shone over the room that smelled of moisture, soap, and mildew.

As he passed the beam of his flashlight over the showerheads, dispensers, stacked stools, and red and white tiles, Uryuu realized that not only was this a showerroom, but having seen that the men's showers had blue tiling, it was a women's showerroom. Blood shot up his neck and swamped his cheeks, and he would have pivoted hard and attempted to march right out of there, except for the blocked doorway behind him, and the obviously more pressing issue of how the door to the entry room had led here.

"This, uh," he tried, using the flashlight to try and push up his glasses, "...isn't right."

A lame finish.

It had been her next thought to ask after how he was feeling. She knew from their time together at breakfast that Ishida-kun wasn't holding up too well, but a lot could happen over the course of a day -- certainly he seemed okay. His gait wasn't lopsided; he looked pretty aware of his surroundings, no vertigo...

... which was more than could be said for her when she stepped into the showerroom, when she nearly repeated her performance from the first night she woke here, and slipped on the floor.

"O-oh," she blinked as she stepped a little further inside, careful to let her sneakers set a firm foothold on the tile beneath her feet. "I-I guess they still didn't put up a wet floor sign, huh..."

No, it wasn't right, she meant. But it was a little difficult to get over the jarring sense of wrongness.

"... I... didn't know they moved the showers here... The feng shui's all wrong, now."

The disorientation hit Lloyd hard, too, and he staggered, nearly running into Ishida, only barely instead putting a hand out to brace himself against the wall.

"Whoa. What-" His eyes refocused, and he jerked, startled. "Wait, I thought we went into the entry room. Where are we?" The room was completely unfamiliar to him. He hadn't been in Landel's long enough to see either shower room, let alone know which one this was.

Then Inoue topped off the dizziness and confusion with a completely bizarre remark. He started at her. It still didn't make sense. He looked at Ishida and Karkat to see if either of them understood. "...what are fang shoes?"

"She didn't say anything about shoes, you ignoramus. She said 'Fung Shway'." Not that Karkat knew what that meant any more than he did. He was pinching the bridge of his nose to try and ward off the dizziness as he said it. The feeling would have been attributed to his earlier injection if it didn't seem like everyone else was suffering from sudden vertigo as well.

It took a few moments for him to blink confusedly at their surroundings. "What happened, anyway? Did they really move sections of the building around? Because that doesn't make one fucking bit of sense." How did they even do that without the other patients feeling everything shift around? Was it even worth questioning?

It's kinda like one of them, uh... the drawings what got the stairs all upside down and crossways. WHAT ARE ALL MEANT TO CONFUSE THE MOTHERFUCK OUT OF A BROTHER.

No, it wasn't quite like that, was it? It was just an out of place room.
