Night 67: M-B Block Hallway
[From here.]
The pain was growing stronger.
Why?
On top of that, why was his stomach suddenly rumbling? True, he hadn't eaten his dinner, but usually he was too focused on survival during the night to notice if or when his body was requesting more energy...
At least there didn't seem to be anyone else out of their rooms yet. Zero was making a habit of being early, which was good in this case, if something unfortunate was really about to happen to him. It wasn't so much himself that he was concerned with here... It was the other prisoners. His allies. His friends. If he transformed, then obviously they were in grave danger. He was not about to let that happen a second time.

It was getting trickier without the flashlight. He wasn't going to turn back here, though; if not anything else, it was simply degrading to surrender to an obstacle like this. If he remembered correctly, this wall should just have a door to the bathrooms, so if he put his hand on this wall and followed it, he should reach the door to the next hallway eventually.

It was a such a relief for Guy when he paused at his usual spot against the wall in this hallway and realized that he no longer had to wait with dread for Claude to show himself. His friend was back to normal, as was Anise. He didn't have to spend his nights tense, waiting for the moment when one of them would hunch over and start to change.
There were plenty of other things he still had to be ready for out in the dark hallways, of course, but those he could handle. His friends being in danger had taken a toll on him, even if he'd kept a strong front most of the time.
He wondered what Claude might have to say about the new sheath that he'd made for himself. Guy knew that he'd told Claude about the idea way back when he'd first bought the leather from Doyleton, but that had been a long time ago and Claude had likely forgotten about the whole thing.
Either way, Guy hoped that Claude would show himself soon so that they could go find Anise. It would be good for him to see both of them looking healthy.
[For Claude.]

When Claude's beam illuminated Guy's comfortingly familiar form, his face lit up with a smile. No matter what happened, he felt like he could count on Guy to be there for him. Of course, in the back of his mind, he understood how painfully fragile that sort of consistency could be in a horrible place like this, but that wasn't what he wanted to focus on right then.
"Hey," he greeted, and for the first time in awhile, the smile reached his eyes. "I guess you might have heard by now, huh." To demonstrate, he held up his arm and displayed the already-fading rash that marked his pale skin. "Looks like I can join the club now, thanks to you and the others."
Because, really, he knew he couldn't have gotten this far by himself. That didn't just apply toward trek into the X-Ray room and the woods, either, he realized. Sometimes he thought he could still feel Guy's warm arms wrapped around him, and he knew that gave him a special kind of strength as well.

"Hey," Guy said in return, smiling back as he pulled away from the wall. It didn't take long for Claude to show him a solid sign of the healing process, and Guy stepped forward to grab his wrist with his free hand, turning it around to see how much the rash had already faded. "Man, it really is working... How did you and Luke get a hand on the flower, anyway?"
Guy hadn't even thought about trying to sneak one of the yellow flowers away during the day, because it hadn't seemed worth getting in trouble when they were already so close to the cure. But it turned out that Claude and Luke had taken care of it themselves somehow, which surprised him.

Not that it had taken a lot to convince him. He could be really impulsive under the right (or wrong) circumstances. In that sense, it was kind of easy for the two of them to feed off of each other if they had something they wanted within arm's reach. Maybe they ought to be more careful in the future.
"He covered for me while I nicked some to try during dinner later," he added. "After that, it was just a matter of discreetly tucking it into the waistband of my pants. Since it wasn't anything dangerous or bulky, and we weren't getting into any fights, I figured the worst the nurses would do was take it away and shake their fingers at us."

As Lloyd passed through the next hallway, he realized he wasn't alone, and that he recognized the other person standing there waiting. Lifting his free hand, he exchanged a quick greeting with Guy. Probably waiting for Claude, was his best guess. His roommate hadn't looked like he'd be too far behind Lloyd, though, so he figured Guy wouldn't have long to wait. Claude's condition really had improved, so Lloyd wasn't worried there, either. There wasn't any reason for him to stick around, and they both no doubt had their own plans. Nodding, he continued on.

"So that was all it took, huh? Maybe I should have tried to take some myself." He and Rita probably could have pulled off something like that, if either of them had been willing to take the risk. Not that there was much of a point in dwelling on it now, and he knew that. Anise and Claude had both eaten one of those flowers, so they were in the clear.
Hopefully.
"Anyway, I guess we'd better get moving. The others are going to be waiting for us." Guy turned toward the door out of the block and then led them through.

There wasn't any monsters to see from his view, so he let out a sigh of relief behind his mask when the coast was clear. Yuri couldn't however pass by the sense of dread in these hallways that were once brightly lit and a pearly white. He marched on, but stayed within the shadows where he couldn't be detected with ease. After all in his current person he is a known criminal with a bounty on his head.
It wouldn't do him any good to make any pointless mistakes.

Given how small the block was, there were a few people around in the corners. Zero had already vanished and Gabriel didn't dare to linger. Just in case. Just in case being around someone was dangerous for him--or them. Just in case it did something to trigger whatever Landel was planning to make that injection do to him.
The Archangel slowed to let them through the door first, biting his lip, rosary clutched in his fist, and trying not to hunch like he was scared at all.
Just before the door closed behind them their voices carried in the quiet of the hall. "Lock the door behind you. One less person to worry about turning."
For a moment Gabriel stood frozen in darkness; then, abruptly frightened, he rushed forward and tested the knob with a shaking hand. It turned under his touch, the door opened and light beamed through the crack. Gabriel exhaled, found himself trembling, and pressed a hand to his mouth to contain the unintentional sob. For several long moments he had to lean against the wall to collect himself, to console himself that he hadn't heard right, and to pray for a moment against this lingering terror of darkness. He had a torch, for his Master's sake.
When the hallway began to feel stiflingly close, he roused himself, finally, to move into the next.

A quick glance up and down the hall -- and then a slower one, Sasuke unable to resist from luxuriating just slightly in the ability to glance at all -- showed that there were far too few people still milling the space for the time remaining to be anything close to comfortable. There were precious few options available, and for the time being, at least, the most logical one was to search out the experiment rooms.
There was, perhaps, a point in trying out the basement without Aidou: but if nothing else, becoming sighted again was a reminder of how much Sasuke had been dependent. How much the Institute insisted on it. And there was no telling if there wouldn't be something past that lake and its skeletal guardian that would require it.
Resolved, still irritated, Sasuke pressed onward.
