Day 65: Intercom, Evening

As some of the clouds from earlier began to clear, the intercom jingle sounded over the intercom once again.

"Hello, patients!" came the Head Doctor's cheery voice. "I hope you're all feeling fresh and clean this evening! To top it all off, we've prepared a scrumptious herb chicken dinner for you to eat before bed. Of course, we have vegetarian options available, so please don't hesitate to ask the nurse if you're interested in that.

Also, since we have the pleasure of welcoming a few new patients into our family, some of you will be receiving new roommates. Let's do our best to give them a nice, big Landel's Institute welcome, shall we?"

The Head Doctor gave a friendly chuckle. "Well, anyway, enjoy your dinner!"

With that, the intercom shut off.

[Note: All dinner threads are posted in response to this entry. Be sure to check the Roommate Assignments if you're not sure what room/roommate your character has! Thanks.]

Ilia nodded, though she couldn't help the twist of concern that marred her forehead. "Hey, if you're not feeling up to going out, you might want to consider staying in. Just if you're not up for leaving, though."

Ilia wasn't going to tell Lana she couldn't go out. She was an adult and could make her own decisions. And Landel was probably just trying to get into their mind, whether his ominous messages were fact or fiction.

"Guess I can say a little..." But only as much as the institute would allow her, she thought with a scowl. "The basement. It's supposed to have some sort of secret there, but... I don't know what it is, or if it's really all that helpful. And I don't think it's worth most peoples' time to investigate." Sure as hell wasn't worth losing a life over, but it wasn't like Ilia could say that.

"I'll be alright. I have one of those rings, that will bring me right back here, if I need it." If she'd packed it -- she'd better do that now, while she still had light to find it by. She gave up on dinner, and started going through her things. There it was.

Something wasn't quite right, though she couldn't put her finger on it. She went through Ilia's statement again in her head, sentence by sentence. Ah, right. The basement that people couldn't talk about. Ilia's description was so full of contradictions a child could see them -- or a sick, slow-on-the-uptake, prosecutor. "Your time is worth a great deal, most notably to you." she said, a slight smirk on her lips. It wasn't entirely true; Ilia had spent quite a lot of time putting together the bar, but Ilia thought that had value as well. And perhaps it was more important -- morale wasn't to be sneered at.

But she would hear what Lana wasn't saying -- in response to what she wasn't. Whatever the dangers, it was one of the only leads they had. It might not be worth it in the end, but they had to try. "Good luck down there."

"Right. That's a nifty device to have." Ilia would not be envious of her roommate, despite its very significant function as a lifeline. Lana needed it more. While she had taken the time to learn some basic self-defense training from Ilia before, she was hardly on par with a master of martial arts. Having the ability to run in case of an unbeatable foe was Lana's greatest trump card.

Ilia's smile pulled a little tighter. Lana was getting to the point where she could read Ilia like a book. At least the scientist wasn't actually attempting to hide the truth. The problem was being unable to reveal all she could on the matter. "I'm just hoping others won't be so quick to spend time down there."

Someone would lose a lot more than precious time, but Ilia couldn't say that much.

She nodded, glad to have her roommate on her side. "You, too. Try to work on healing up. If I see anything down there that I can talk about, I'll let you know."
