Night 62: M01-M10 Hallway

Even after dinner and mostly resting on his bed for the final shift of the day, Locke wasn't feeling any better. His face was still warm and, if he made any quick movements, the room would spin; his hope that this was just fatigue was quickly fading away and the announcements Landel made did nothing to ease him.

Not that the creep's announcements were ever anything to feel happy about.

The treasure hunter slipped on the boots from the military outfit, the only thing he was willing to put on from that thing, and headed out as soon as the doors clicked open. He didn't really know what Tolten had planned but he figured preparing as usual was his best option.

When Sora woke up, it was from a dream, one that had involved eyes peeking at him from the dark and a staircase that had never ended, no matter how quickly he'd raced up it. He woke up with a strangled gasp, gripping the bedsheets while expecting them to take a shape of a key.

It took a few seconds for reality to kick in, at which point he let his body loosen as he flopped on his side on the bed. His body was sticky with a layer of sweat; he hadn't dreamed like that in a long time. He was used to strange dreams, but they hardly ever happened in this place. Did that mean something?

Sora blinked his eyes a few times, but even as he untangled himself from the sheets he realized that he was still uncomfortably warm. He put the back of his hand to his forehead, but it was hard to tell if he had a fever or not. He definitely felt like he was overheating.

Just as he was wondering about that, though, he started to register the words being spoken by the Head Doctor over the intercom. He was used to ignoring the morning announcements, but this was clearly not one of those. Instead of talking about what would be served for breakfast, Landel was talking about how the patients would be experiencing symptoms.

The man's words only got more ominous as he continued to speak, and Sora felt his breath catch in his throat. He realized that he might be assuming too much, but the fact that he'd apparently slept through the day and was now suffering from a fever (he was pretty sure he was, anyway) didn't seem like just a coincidence.

Landel could just be lying to mess with them, but the man didn't usually make empty threats. Sora found it hard to believe that a slight fever could eventually develop into turning into some sort of bloodthirsty monster, but he wasn't going to underestimate the situation either.

It had been a long time since he'd slept through a day like this, too, which bothered him. He knew that too much sleep here was usually a bad sign, but even more than that, sleeping through the day meant that he'd missed doing his club duties. He hoped that his friends weren't worried about him!

On top of that, he had no plans for the night, which meant that he was going to have to take a chance and head out on his own. At this point he knew a good portion of the other patients, so his hope was that it wouldn't be that hard to run into someone familiar. Then maybe he could find out how much he'd missed.

While Sora still felt kind of drained despite how much he'd slept, he forced himself to change out of the sweaty hospital uniform and into his own outfit. Then he grabbed his flashlight and radio (hopefully Marc would have something to say tonight about all this) and stepped out of the door.
