Night 60: M-B Block Hallway

[From here.]

For some reason, it was a lot harder to be on board with this idea of searching through the basement when Landel was the one who was sitting on his throne, wherever it was, and laughing at them as he watched them struggle through. Guy knew that it was the only real clue that they had and they couldn't back down just because of that, but he felt like a horse that had been broken and trained into doing what its master wanted.

As he settled against the wall in the empty hallway, Guy dragged a hand through his hair and stared down at the sword in his hand. He was the one who chose what to do with the weapon: him, and no one else. He would never fight for Landel or Aguilar or anyone else who might think they could make use of him. He was trying to find his way back home, and that was all.

Logically, Landel had given that clue when he had been cast off from that throne, which meant that he might have spoken truthfully out of desperation. Now that he was back in charge it was possible that he would just be able to lead them in circles, but Guy was going to have to hope that it wasn't that simple.

It was something that he would have to discuss with his friends, though he knew that they didn't exactly have a Plan B. Guy sighed and settled his gaze on Claude's hallway, waiting for any sign of him.

[For Claude.]

Loki paused at the corner to listen, just to make certain that nothing overly interesting was happening ahead. He'd been warned constantly, after all, about the dangers of the place. Such a short distance from his room, nothing. He wasn't going to let that interfere with his caution, however. It was new territory.

Keeping his steps light, he made his way to the exit for the block.

Harvey wasn't usually the sort of person to feel nervous, and even now he wouldn't call it that. It wasn't the dark, empty hallway that had him tense and jumpy, but rather the fact that he was about to throw himself into something that could lead to even more death.

Granted, it didn't seem all that severe when it had been made clear that you would just bounce back afterward, but that didn't mean that he was curious to know what it felt like.

He wasn't scared of death, necessarily. He'd thought about that option more than a few times since Rachel's death, even. But he didn't want to go out like this. He needed to take care of some things first, and he wasn't going to let Landel wipe him out before he got the chance.

Not for the first time he wondered what the others would think if they knew. Granted, it was a moot point, seeing how he never intended on letting them find out. Shoulders squared, Harvey exited the block.

Zero almost half expected to run into a corpse again when he stepped out into the block hallway. But no, this area was empty tonight save for one or two other prisoners moving through. Everything really was back to normal.

... Well...not normal, exactly, nothing was ever 'normal' in this place. Just less...surprising than the previous night. Then again, this was only the first hallway on his trip tonight. He'd continue to keep his guard up just in case.

With nothing new or unexpected to note in here, the once-Reploid kept up a brisk pace and moved on to the next hallway.

At this point, they'd gone through the motions of meeting together so many times that it felt all too routine to Claude at this point. Not that he didn't enjoy spending time with Guy and Anise, of course, but these days he sorely wished it was under better circumstances. Having been recently reminded of the disaster that met them in the coliseum, he couldn't help but feel anxious about the challenges that awaited them. They'd nearly lost Anise the last time they'd walked through a doorway in the caverns. What would happen if they kept pressing their luck?

On the other hand, Claude still remembered how aimless and lost he'd felt once he'd had a little time to process what had happened to them in the basement. If they couldn't go underneath the building to get out, where else could they go in order to escape Martin Landel's clutches? How else were they going to break free from the endlessly repeating cycle that kept them waking up in the same beds everyday?

When Claude caught sight of Guy's familiar form, he let out a small breath, relieved to find his friend waiting for him. He felt better knowing he wouldn't have to be left alone with his dark thoughts for any longer.

"Hey." Approaching him, he offered the other man a pale smile. "It's good to see you." They usually spent at least one day shift together, and Claude had to privately admit that he'd missed talking with Guy today.

By now, they could probably meet up with each other blindfolded (well, not that Claude wanted to try, but the fact remained that they'd met together enough times for it to become old hat), so it didn't surprise him when Guy mentioned Anise was waiting for them.

He still couldn't get over that huge doll she'd rode last night, though. That she'd been able to control something like that still impressed him. It was just a damn shame that they hadn't had access to their powers in the caverns. They likely wouldn't ever again while they were trapped in this building. Not as long as Landel had anything to say about it, at least. Besides, whatever went wrong, he doubted the people in charge were dumb enough to make the same mistake twice.

Still, it'd probably be useful for showing that skeleton a thing or two. Then again, if he was already dead, did he even fear things like that?

Okay, no, he didn't want to think too hard on that one. Instead, he gave a decisive nod and tightened his grip on his sword. "Ready if you are."

Body pressed against the wall, Woody slowly made his way through the dark, his flashlight beam lighting the way. Although the coast was clear so far, he knew he couldn't always count on that. No signs of weird, shimmery pink stuff, not to mention dead things, or...blood. Woody gave an audible gulp at the memory, and he reminded himself that he wouldn't be alone with such morbid thoughts soon.

Still, as he cautiously crept through the area, he couldn't help but think of Buzz. Was he still sleeping? While Woody felt like maybe it was for the best that his friend stay out of danger, some of the comments he'd read on the bulletin board still freaked him out. Maybe he needed to just find Buzz's roommate and talk to him personally about what had happened to his buddy.

In the meantime, he just hoped he'd have some good news to give when Buzz finally decided to wake up.

The hallway was silent other than the few noises drifting in from the adjacent hallways. Seishin paused for a moment, sweeping the beam of the flashlight around the area. It was empty, no corpses littering the floor he walked on as it did last night. He had already noticed it during the day, but it was as though tonight's chaos had never happened were it not for Landel-san himself.

With little reason to delay any further, the former priest continued walking.

Names. That might have summed up his day on its own: names, and precious little more than that. At this point Sasuke had a great deal of incidental information about (what was probably) this world at large, and very little of its immediate surroundings -- but then, that was the next goal.

If nothing else, Landel's was forcing him to refine the ability to manipulate several goals at once, without changing the overall goal. And while that was perhaps not anything particularly new in the plotline of Sasuke's life, it was more than a little annoying to have had to watch (or not watch, as it were) the scope of those goals narrow into the miniature field of the Institute.

This hallway itself he must have walked a hundred times by now between the day and the night, and unlike others it never changed. The familiar, useless, just as the familiar strength of his chakra and his own bloodline last night had proved unreliable here. There was no point in review: Sasuke pressed on to the next known hall, hoping tonight to move toward something new.

"Just...speak up if you see me acting weird," Badd murmured as he led Byrne down the dark hallway. "And don't be afraid to hit where it hurts if you think I'm going to do something to you. I'll mend." Just to make sure that Byrne understood the stakes.

[identity profile] corvus-veritas.livejournal.com 2012-01-05 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh geez, really? Badd still hadn't given up on believing he was going to randomly go crazy and mutilate his partner in some murder spree, huh? Then again, was this really any surprise? Badd was as stubborn as a mule. Telling him to stop being paranoid was like expecting a mountain to move if you told it to. Neither one would ever work.

"I'll speak up," replied Byrne, raising an eyebrow, "but I'll uh, think about that last part."

That may or may not have reassured Badd, but reassurance wasn't what he was aiming for there. C'mon, Byrne wasn't stupid. He knew Badd was much stronger than him (and kind of also had a gun right now when Byrne had nothing). Realistically, if something happened and the detective went mad right now...well, he'd be screwed, no doubt about it. Fighting back wouldn't help when Badd was stronger - not that he thought he'd ever have the willpower to hurt his friend in the first place - and running wouldn't work if Badd could just shoot him. So what was he expected to do, anyway?

The smaller, quieter corridor was almost identical to the one near L's own room. Going from the door to the corridor where Lunge's room should be located took no time at all.
