HK had seen faint disturbances of heat up ahead, but hadn't really paid it all that much thought until something large and distinctly unfriendly tried to jump on him.

He dropped to the ground and rolled out of the way as the other meatbag came in with a kick. He pushed himself up and momentarily turned on the glowrod in his hand, aiming to blind the whatever-this-was. This was followed a second later by an attempt to brain the hostile with the glowrod.
