Night 58: M-C Block Hallway

[from here]

The moment Brook entered the hallways, he began humming as he always did when venturing out - the tune of Bink's Sake accompanying him as if it were a presence of it's own. Though he tended to hum it slowly, just in case something nasty was listening in, the song was still one he considered uplifting. It had gotten him through years without companionship, as a reminder of the wonderful times he'd had with his friends. Not to mention it was his favorite.

I'll have to let Sai-san hear it sometime... he determined after realizing that he'd never actually sung it for his friend. That would have to be the first thing he did whenever he next saw the young man. And the others should hear it as well - Sasuke, Sakura, and especially Aidou. Brook had a feeling the blond could use some cheering up, what with that scowl he always seemed to have.

Wandering around blindly in the darkness was usually considered, if not stupid, unproductive to most people, but Chipp didn't seem to mind too much as he slowly shuffled down the hallway, keeping his back pressed against the wall as he used it to guide himself downwards. Eventually, he'd have to run into a window or a light switch or something, right? Even then, it wasn't like he was gonna use the dark as an excuse to sit around like a coward and do nothing! He was Chipp Zanuff and he wasn't going to take this kind of shit without doing something about it.

Whatever that was.

His hands eventually touched the cool metal of a doorknob, and that was awesome because Chipp was getting sick of this stupid hallway. Finally, maybe this was an exit or something. And best of all, it also wasn't locked, which only confirmed Chipp's suspicions that whoever kidnapped him really sucked at it. After opening the door, Chipp waited just in case of a sneak attack before finally going through.

They were entering an area that was similar to the one they had left very recently, and Shiina recognized it as an entryway into the cell block halls. Made sense that they would be the same. An institute must be very structured.

"Yeah, that's definitely an English-sounding name." Or at least 'Edward' could be English. It had a pretty strange consonant cluster that made it sound unnatural on a Japanese tongue.

"He doesn't eat?" Shiina pondered this. She agreed about the mush, but at the same time... "Are you sure he isn't sick?" That seemed logical. After all, most guys liked to eat a lot, right?

"Hah! It'll be a surprise for sure; they'll be too fast for ya to see," Niikura replied, grinning viciously. "Me strikin' like lightning and all." Actually, he secretly hoped he would never have to show her; his abilities only went on display when he was in danger, and he didn't want to get Shiina caught up in anything particularly messy.

As they approached his room, Niikura shined his flashlight down the hall, hoping to pick up Mike's silhouette...but the hall was empty. He frowned. The man had promised promptness, but...

Okay, detour time. No stopping. "Don't think he is...he looks alright most of the time. I don't know, I try not to pry. He's the kinda guy who likes keepin' secrets, I think.

"Anyway, just gonna check on somethin' really fast--stay put right here for a second, okay?" He gave her a quick thumbs up before taking off down the hall.

"--okay." Niikura slowed to a walk as he approached Shiina, secretly relieved that nothing had managed to attack her in the few minutes or so that he'd let her out of his sight. "Uh, change of plan, we're gonna go ahead and just head out for the little expedition I planned for tonight without my friend." He shrugged. "Somethin' urgent came up, which is okay. We got each other, right?"

He pointed in the direction they had just come from. "So! Back out we go~"

The thought of Shou actually striking fast as lightning was a hilarious thought, since he generally liked to play a game of cat and mouse with his victims before he got around to the punishing. She wondered if he ever really would show her the tricks, though. Seeing him in action with seeing him commit suicide after would be a treat.

She wanted to laugh, to make a sarcastic remark about him ever "not trying to pry" but he was in a hurry. She didn't want to wait, but she wasn't going to follow if it bothered him. She made herself comfortable leaning against a wall until he returned.

The wait didn't take long and soon enough they were... heading back the same way from before. Shiina followed along, feeling mildly perplexed at the about face, but his words about them having each other warmed her. She took his arm, a little more firmly this time, and walked by his side.

"Right. We have each other."
